“So - this is your room then, Izzy.” Steve pulled the little suitcase into her room and stopped there so she could go ahead inside and check it out. He’d had some time to put it together and was proud of the little space - lots of natural light, good space to play in the middle. He’d even taken the liberty of anchoring a bar to one wall so she could practice her dancing.
He was nervous, but also hopeful that the adoption placement was going to work out. Since the day Izzy had showed up lost at his door in the rain, Steve started thinking about going ahead with the plan he and Peggy had made before she died: starting a family and moving on with life after service. She was gone now, but she wouldn’t have wanted him to give up every single one of his dreams.
He paused as he leaned her suitcase against a dresser. “I thought you might like the pink, but we can repaint the walls whatever color you want.” Steve studied the redheaded girl for a moment. “What do you think?”

In a nervous manner that didn’t quite suit the little girl, Izzy enters what is now to be her NEW bedroom. A usually loud and mischievous character, it can’t be denied that she’s drawn in just a little as her slight fear of a new situation takes over her. This isn’t the same as talking to passerby in the street with confidence, or running over to the nearest dog owner to ask for permission to pet their animal. This is a whole new life with a whole new person who’s going to be her whole new FATHER.
She glances around her new set up, hands clasped together in front of her as she takes little steps. “I like pink...” Izzy admits softly as he turns around in the room. It’s when she spots the ballet bar on one wall that she really lights up. Eyes glisten with excitement and she’s SPRINTING over to the feature.
“Is this mine?” Izzy asks incredulously, gripping it with both hands and jumping up and down. “Wow!” She declares with a giggle.
