And what hurts is the steadily diminishing humanity of those fighting to hold jobs they don’t want but fear the alternative worse. People simply empty out. They are bodies with fearful and obedient minds. The color leaves the eye. The voice becomes ugly. And the body. The hair. The fingernails. The shoes. Everything does. As a young man I could not believe that people could give their lives over to those conditions. As an old man, I still can’t believe it. What do they do it for? Sex? TV? An automobile on monthly payments? Or children? Children who are just going to do the same things that they did?

JACOBSEN SALT CO HOT BUTTERED BOURBON

serves one

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

2 tablespoons vanilla ice cream

2 teaspoons dark brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon Jacobsen Citrus & Spice Salt

1 oz bourbon

1/2 oz orange curacao

Boiling hot water

pinch cinnamon

pinch nutmeg

Combine ice cream, butter, and brown sugar, and salt in a small bowl. Heat over double boiler, or microwave if you are lazy like us. (just a few seconds)

Add mixture to a Small Tumbler, and add bourbon and orange curacao. Top with boiling hot water, and stir to combine. Garnish with a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg.

So this cocktail is pretty amazing.  I'm really feeling butter and bourbon in my drinks this winter.
