I'm nearly done with my illustrations of the possessions of a deceased blacksmith in 1785 Massachusetts, and I'm planning to print and sell it as a zine, but how much it could sell for is going to determine choices I make about things like paper stock, printing method, etc.

#not art #my current thought is $15 for a cream colored paper and a cardstock cover #but if everyone wouldn't pay more than $5 its going to be a cheaper cover and printed after-hours secretly on my office's printer or w/e

I guess the theme of this post is pink & purple.

I'm having so much fun doing Art Fight, and trying to challenge myself a little bit with each one -- a slightly-more-difficult pose than I usually do, incorporating a device/accessory/prop I haven't drawn before and figuring out how to draw it well, or using a creative framing device. The incentive of points is also getting me to go outside my comfort zone and do more full-color work than I otherwise would.

Fortunately, interesting OCs with cool designs like these make the brainstorming easier.

Her OCs Gideon, Isaiah, and Penelope are all residents of 1770s Boston, which is truly one of my favorite settings. They were so fun to draw, especially Penelope's gown.

We decided they were besties maybe a couple months ago and now they're a bonded pair.

I don't have a lot of images that are good color refs for most of my OCs, and then some OCs that I'm redesigning just don't have enough pictures at all, so here's some full-color drawings of Mal and Jack, Ivy with her updated vallaslin, and Victoria who I just had no polished drawings of at all.

Realized I had no good full-body drawings of my 1905 base-ball OC Effie while I was uploading things to Art Fight, so I had to correct that.

I love her, she's originally from a mill town but runs away to the big city to play base-ball & get dragged around to Women's Trade Union League meetings and such by older girls. It's all a very exciting life.

#self reblog #shes so cute shes my youngest oc #i NEED to get back to my research on early womens base ball #and the presence of amab players on “bloomer girl” teams #which is a phenomenon i came across when i was obsessed w creating cigarette cards for deadball era players who didnt have them esp women #the sabr articles that it came up in were both pretty gross about it #like 1. some of the evidence was men presenting as men on the rosters and some was visible drag and then some was 'this person is listed as #female and presents as female but idk this photo of her at 16 with no makeup is mannish'#which isnt. great. research. 2. they were asserting that men were being brought in bc men are naturally better at baseball than women #3. there was no curiosity in either of the papers that mentioned it about how these different people may have seen themselves #but!!! im really fascinated by the presence of these people #esp the players presenting as girls in settings where there were just like. guys in pants calling themselves 'jim' and 'frank' on teams #and i want to dig deeper into that at some point but for now. ive got an oc about it.
