I love lowered difficulty in games! I love story modes, I love the option of adjusting damage! I love not getting frustrated with myself! I love being able to spare my hands and fingers the torture of many, many failed attempts! I love not feeling like the game hates me personally for "being bad"!

I dunno, I think it's... if not bad, then certainly sad that someone will never pick up a game because they're aware of its infamous difficulty and so give up in advance, thinking they're not "good" enough. They'll never get the chance to walk through the world, talk to the characters, experience the game directly in any way simply because the game was made for people "better" than them.

A while ago I was fairly ambivalent towards this issue. I thought, "Well, some games are simply not made for everyone – and that's okay!" But nowadays I question this notion.

This is certainly not a call to "simplify all games", and I'm not, like, admonishing video game devs for not making their games accessible to all. That's not really my place, I don't think.

I just think people deserve to play games, and games deserve to be played.
