āItās like you donāt even care about me,ā Kaicee practically shrieks, and Jaxon really, really wishes he had a beer right now. Or six. Theyāve been fighting for the last ten minutes and it feels like an eternity.Ā
āBabe, I made these plans before Valentineās Day.ā
āSo some stupid party is more important than my family?ā
All of this stupidity started when Jaxon told her he wouldnāt be able to go to some dumb family event of hers because of the AKA fundraiser. The one thatās been planned for months since their illustrious leader decided to rent that DJ and venue without asking anyone and put the frat back in the red. So Jaxon, being the treasurer and all, kind of has to be there. So the short answer to her question is yes, yes it is, but the long answer hopefully has more grace to it.
Jaxon takes a second too long to answer it and Kaiceeās doing that thing he absolutely hates, shoving her finger in his chest as she yells at him. Sheās in his personal space in the worst way, and while the move doesnāt hurt itās fucking annoying. And she knows it annoys him; sheās trying to rile him up anyway possible to get him to participate.
āOh my God Jaxon, grow up already. Not everything is about keggers and beer. Just because youāre majoring in some loser field doesnāt mean you have to act like one.ā
Oh right, that lie too. When they first met, Kaicee got fed the same lie everyone else in Greek Row does, that Jaxonās a sports medicine major and his aspirations are about the same: high school gym teacher or part-time personal trainer. It never felt like a good time to tell her otherwise, and now theyāre engaged and it feels awkward and distant.
But Kaiceeās struck a nerve, sort of, and Jaxonās chest puffs up. His voice is raised, annoyed, and she has a glimmer of success in her eyes before itās replaced by more anger.
āNot everyone follows what mommy and daddy want so they can live with their trust fund, okay?.ā
She slaps him in the face hard enough for it to echo, and maybe he deserved that. But she started this all, all of it, so when she turns to storm of the room Jaxon doesnāt make any motion to stop her. Whatever.
She doesnāt like the way the conversation is going, Kelsey had sent her some flirty texts and called her over, theyād had some fun. Theyād had a lot of fun and Peyton had just stepped out of the other girls shower when things had started to go south. Whenever Peyton starts up with someone, the casual hookup now and then she makes it clear sheās not really looking to have anything serious. She likes the freedom of being single. Being able to go and do as she pleases without having to let anyone know.
But apparently things have gone on too long and Kelsey starts broaching the subject of dating.Ā āWeāve been at this for a while, weāre good together! Why canāt we just see where dating goes.ā
Peyonās shoulders tense and she sits on the bed that Kelsey still lies in, wrapped in a sheet and Peyton tenses more when she can feel the girls eyes staring into her back,Ā āI told you before we started this it wouldnāt go anywhere, I donāt date. You knew that going in, if youād hoped for more, you shouldnāt have answered my call the first time.ā
Pulling on a boot Peyton can see Kelsey sitting up closer to her, leaning on the wall behind the bed,Ā āhooking up was fine at first, I just donāt see what the big deal is with trying.ā
Peyton rolls her eyes and gets off the bed, moving to find her shirt, the entire time she searches she can feel eyes on her, tracking her every move. She knows Kelsey is waiting for an answer and Peyton wants a minute to just find her shirt before she says what she wants, she doesnāt want to hurt the other girls feelings but sheās never been the type to soften her words. Grabbing her shirt she turns to Kelsey as she pulls it on. āLook, weāre good in bed. Thatās as far as I want thing to go, I donāt make a habit out of dating anyone, and youāre not going to be the first girl to somehow change that.ā
She sees the hurt in Kelseyās eyes before she turns and walks out of the room, she hears the other girl get off the bed and follow her, grabbing her jacket Peyton turns and sees Kelsey standing at the doorway,Ā āI know you have feelings Peyton, one day this whole bloody cover you have is going to fade, and youāre going to find out that being alone isnāt all itās cracked up to be. Donāt bother calling me again.ā
She hesitates at the door for a moment, Kelseyās words sinking in before she pulls it open and quickly makes her way out. She knows things with Kelsey had gone on longer than she had originally planned. She doesnāt usually keep girls numbers longer than a week or two, but itās been a while since her and Kelsey had started to fool around and there had been a few times sheād been planning on ending but the words hadnāt come. Peyton walks through the doors of the building and she finds herself inside a room just as a girl slaps some dude and storms out. She looks behind her and the door is gone and she turns back to see the girl gone and the dude is still standing there.Ā āDid you deserve that?ā
