freckledbreccan:
 âNot my thing I guess.â
âIs that because you donât want to, or you donât like to?â
dontcallmelexi:
âMidterms.â Lex mused with a quick roll of her eyes, pushing her notebook farther away. âItâs just that time of year.â She reached down and grabbed a mandarin orange from her backpack and started peeling it. âIâm pretty positive I didnât actually learn anything in this class, how am I supposed to be tested on it?â
âEw, I definitely feel your pain.â Peyton bit her lip, watching the girl. âProfessors who canât actually teach are the worst.â
@palermoviv
âHey,â Peyton said as she neared the counter, acting mildly surprised to see Vivian. It wasnât like sheâd purposefully scanned the front desk when she walked in, taking an extra beat or two to see if Viv was there. Tucked inside the back cover of the bottom book of her stack was a sticky note that Peyton had carefully thought about over and over, finally deciding to go for it. It rested over the barcode, impossible to be ignored. She slid the three books across the counter. âThey also said one of the books I put on hold was in, but the voicemail Edith left didnât happen to include the title.â
freckledbreccan:
âWell both my parents, and my older sister are freckled, so it wasnât really a shot in the dark.â
âTrue, but what if youâd been some kind of mold-breaker?â
âThis is ridiculous.â Lex said aloud from her corner where she was studying, pulling her headphones out of her ears in a huff. âSorry.â She looked up to realize her exclamation had been louder than intended as several people turned their heads to look at her, a slight attitude in her voice as she returned her headphones to her ears.Â
âWhatâs ridiculous?â Peyton was walking by, honestly, and hadnât planned to talk to anyone but she was unable to deny this girl her right to vent. The library was a place for all sorts of people, and Peyton was suddenly very curious as to what this girl could be referring to. Sliding into the chair next to the girl, Peyton glanced at her corner, taking it all in.
freckledbreccan:
âIt means freckled in Irish.â Breccan motioned to his face. âSo obviously my rentals were spot on.â
âReally? Man, itâs lucky for them that you ended up with freckles. Otherwise, that would have been a risky move.â
freckledbreccan:
âPeyton, like Manning!â Breccan smiled. âNice.â
âExactly like that, yeah,â she replied. âThanks. Yours is pretty unique.â
freckledbreccan:
âYou do?â Breccanâs eyes lit up. âIâm Breccan.â He extended his hand as an introduction. âLetâs be friends.â
âYou bet!â She laughed a little, shaking his hand. âPleasure to meet you, Breccan. Iâm Peyton.â
freckledbreccan:
âI like receiving gifts though. Buying them is just. Hard work.â
âOh,â she replied, running a hand through her hair. âWell, then you need to make friends with people like me. I love buying gifts.â
freckledbreccan:
âI just want to go back to those days where the excitement of Christmas and waiting for Santa made everything feel so much more exciting. Now itâs just a hassle man. Do I buy this person a gift? What if they donât have one for me? Should I feel bad if I donât have one for them?â
âSee, I think it can still be exciting at times. Okay, thatâs the first issue! You have to come at it from a place of, like, not worrying about all of that. If you want to get someone a gift, do it. If you donât, then donât... Unless itâs your mom, then do it anyway. Trust me on that one.â
freckledbreccan:
 âWhich part?â Breccan laughed.
âThe part where Christmas becomes about reasonably gifts instead of fun ones.â
âWhen did socks and underwear become the thing I actually wanted to get for Christmas? I just want to be 5 again.â
âI definitely know that feeling. Itâs a bit strange of a feeling sometimes.â

âMomâ Momâ YeahâŠIââ Vaughan sighed, rolling her eyes. âMom, Iâve gotta go, my date just showed up. Okay, thanks, bye.â She quickly hung up her phone and shoved it in her back pocket. âHey, sorry about that. How are you?â
Peyton hadnât really been looking too hard as she approached the diner, she didnât want to seem too eager. But she had glanced at the girl, and the word âdateâ solidified it. âNo worries,â she replied as she approached, extending her hand. âVaughan, right? Iâm Peyton. And Iâm good, sorry, how are you?â
palermoviv:
âI- Iâm not bad, I guess. Easier to find books when youâre around them all day, anyoneâll get a good grasp of childrens literature if they spend half their life putting picture books back on the shelves.â It wasnât he first time it had occurred to viv that this whole, being terrified and intimidated by any girl who managed to be both nice and pretty was probably the reason sheâd always wound up with male friends. And whoever Lane was dating, at the time. âLet me know if you think of one youâd really like to find, Iâm sure if I donât know it, someone here would be happy to help.â
âWith the amount of books in this place, Iâll bet youâve seen some gems,â Peyton replied. Her voice was low enough as not to disturb anyone. âIâll keep that in mind. Clearly, with the way my memoryâs working right now, Iâm on the way to Forgetful Town in a fast car.â
