mom?
Yes?
I just finished this book. It is a biography of Lou Sullivan, a gay trans activist who laid the groundwork for the ftm community that we have today. This is a truly important work. Despite the fact that gays and lesbians have worked hard to uncover and reclaim their history, we as trans people are still largely disconnected from our past and ignorant of the trailblazers who have made so much of what we have today possible. Lou died of AIDS related complications when I was only a year old, and yet I see echoes of his life’s work here on Tumblr, on YouTube, and in the trans magazines and publications. Reading this was incredibly emotional for me and I feel that this is a very important book and would strongly recommend it. This is our history, and I think it is a powerful thing to learn about it.
my son Zak writing about the book by my former student Brice. That sentence is overflowing with emotion that I can’t even describe.

HAPPY NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY! Here are some important things to remember about coming out:
You are valid and real, whether or not you’re out! Take your time. You’ll be ready when you’re ready. You are already good enough and you enough, no matter how “out” you are to the world.
You do not have to come out until you are ready! And only you can decide when that is, if it happens at all. It’s up to you and you alone to decide when you feel safe and comfortable enough to come out; it’s not anybody else’s choice to make for you. Speaking of which…
…You don’t get to decide when it’s time for someone else to come out – and you especially don’t have the right to out them! Coming out is one of the most personal decisions someone can make. Let them make it.
You can come out as many or as few times as you want! Did/does your identity change over time? Cool! You can update people as you go, or you can not; it’s your call. Meet somebody new who doesn’t know your identity? Up to you to decide whether to tell them!
There’s no one right way to come out! Face to face? In a letter? Via a relationship? With a cake? Whatever works! Do it your way.
Finally: Sometimes coming out is easy, and other times it’s really hard. Either way, there are so many people in the world who are rooting for you and who love you and who are here for you. So many!
Eight-ish years ago, I came out as bi. It has not always been easy, but it has always been worth it. I love you. You’re perfect. Have an amazing day.
Happy coming out day!

Missing everyone
Hello, I haven’t posted in ages. I have become swamped now that I’m taking care of my 2 grandkids and working full time. I will be updating one thing for sure: my tattoo in my pic. I’ve added the trans colors to the triangle and tomorrow there will be a rainbow around the whole thing.
If you will be 18 by election day in November. Please register to vote. Your future depends on it.
Do you have any PRIDE tattoos you can share?

I had a teacher in high school and you remind me of her. She would let me visit her class anytime I needed to talk about anything. She knew I was being bullied because of being a lesbian but the school wasn't helping. I couldn't accuse anyone of hurting me other than specific attacks, so it was hard to escape. She would play music for me if I wanted or give me a piece of candy. Also I'm autistic (hence the special treatment) but the things she said to me about who I am made a big difference.
Thank you so much! Just ONE supportive adult can make all the difference in the world to a person. Thanks for writing.
Please support Tumblr Teachers’ Classrooms via donations off of their Amazon Wish Lists and/or reblogging this post.
Every year teachers spend on average $500.00 of their own personal income to buy classroom supplies and teaching resources to make sure every kid in their class has what they need and that their classrooms are well-organized and engaging atmospheres where students can learn. If you can, please check out the wishlists and consider donating to a Teacher on Tumblr. If funds are tight, we understand. We hope you will consider reblogging the post in entirety so that the list will get more exposure.
@girlwithalessonplan and I ( @positivelypersistentteach ) worked hard on checking the wishlists and tumblrs to make sure they were active teachers on tumblr with appropriate wishlists. You can find out wishlists below as well. If you have any questions about how this all works, please let us know.
Thank you to all that continue to support teachers and our students.
