Missing everyone

Hello, I haven’t posted in ages. I have become swamped now that I’m taking care of my 2 grandkids and working full time. I will be updating one thing for sure: my tattoo in my  pic. I’ve added the trans colors to the triangle and tomorrow there will be a rainbow around the whole thing.

OMG AWESOME PERSON ALERT

So I was at the mall with my friend and we started talking to this associate at Sephora and it was really cool. It came up in conversation that I’m trans and she was REALLY enthusiastic that it was a good thing and how she has a ton of friends who are gay or trans. So in my head I’m like “okay then…”  but then we were talking more and she mentioned that she was a lesbian and her family wasn’t accepting of it. Then we got on the subject of Leelah Alcorn and we were all a bit teary eyed when we were talking about how people need support. And then I said how I was getting my doctorate in clinical psychology so that I could become a gender therapist and at that point she told me I was her hero, which is awesome. I then mentioned how my mother is basically the “over-enthusiastic PFLAG mom”, to the point where she even has a tumblr dedicated to being the PFLAG mom. This associate was totally blown away because she actually follows my mother on tumblr, and some of my mom’s posts were saved in her likes because they had moved her to tears so THIS IS SO COOL!!

I called my mom right after and tried to get her to come to the mall but she couldn’t make it so she told me to tell her hi. I didn’t want to go back in the store cuz I felt like we were talking too long and she might get in trouble.

I'm not making this private because I think your answer could help others in this situation. My 14 year old daughter came out to me a few weeks ago and I want to make sure I'm giving her as much support as I can. When she told me, I just said okay because it is. And while my husband and I are very accepting, her grandparents are not and she hears them make homophobic statements. But she has also heard me call them out on them even before she told me so she knows I have a firm stance (1)

(2) on acceptance and do not allow that kind of speech. It hurts my heart to know how this affects her and I’ve told her that she is under no obligation to tell anyone anything because it is not their business unless she chooses to tell them. I don’t know what else I can do to support her because right now I would just wrap her in bubble wrap from the world because people are cruel. Any other suggestions? It made me feel good that she said that she knew she could tell me and I would be fine :)

the world is a cruel place to us sometimes, and you know that you cannot shield her from it. but you can love her, and consistently remind her that who she is- is beautiful and there is nothing wrong with loving who she loves. and that you love her no matter what! you are doing the right things, so just keep it up! she is so lucky to have you!!! give her a hug from me too!
