Harrison Browne, the first openly transgender professional hockey player and āHeated Rivalryā actor, wants people to know why inclusion is i
My position in regards to trans rights is easy to summarise. I want every law which is conceived to favour trans people to also carefully research and take into account:
Its impact on the safety, wellbeing and dignity of women and children.
Its impact on the long-term health and wellbeing of trans people.
To what extent would such law impact on the human rights of other protected categories, such as women, children, gays and lesbians.
If a law has a negative impact of any of those, I believe it shouldn't be passed. I believe, firmly, that trans rights cannot and should not be obtained by being selective on who gets human rights. Either we all get the same rights, the same freedoms, liberties, dignities, respect, honour, and protections, or society cannot be called democratic at all. Additionally, I believe so-called gender-reassignment treatments shouldn't be created with such immediate urgency and lack of sufficient high-quality research that we fail to consider the damage to the health of trans people in the long term, such as outlined by a recent Finnish study. Too often it seems like laws are being made with Big Pharma's best interests at heart, and not Trans people, who get thrown under the bus, left alone to suffer long-term impact of questionable and poorly researched treatments others were enriched by. Too often science is disregarded except when it says what people want to hear, even if it isn't the truth. All of this needs to END.
And it is my firm belief that if in order to defend one collective of society, namely the trans collective, you need to attack, harass, disrespect, hurt or offend another, namely women, children, gays and lesbians, then you are not a compassionate and empathetic individual wanting to help people, but someone dangerous who seeks to cause hurt and division.
Finally, pro-trans associations and organisations have encouraged and condoned homophobia, sexism, misogyny and paedophilia for too long, not to mention attacks on freedom of speech, ideology and thought, freedom of association, and even the freedom to read the books you want, as well as constant attacks and harassment on science, scientists, medical collective, and anyone who in short, dares to so much question any of their claims. That also needs to STOP.
And until it stops, I will continue to remove myself from the pro-trans activism I used to be a part of. Because until trans activism makes the firm decision not to be an excuse to harm others, I cannot in good conscience be a part of it.

Recently been able to go to a monthly trans fem event in the Big City closest to me, big milestone for me as I've basically been stuck in my parents house and adjacent town most of my life, finding more access to concerts, being able to talk to more like minded punks and etc, really feels like my life is opening up for me

Coloradans - Iām organizing a coalition of healthcare providers and concerned citizens to advocate and educate on the ballot initiative banning gender affirming surgery for minors in CO this November. Itās a citizen ballot initiative to motivate conservatives to vote (minors donāt get surgery, and itās a way to advance worse anti-trans bills later like what weāre seeing in TN). I want to get some flyering, maybe some talks, social media graphics, lots of stuff off the ground. DM me if interested!
Trans Lives by Raewyn W. Connell
goodreads
Have you read this trans book?
Yes and I liked it
Yes and I didn't like it
No
No but I'd like to
I've never heard of it
Trans people have been thrust into the spotlight in recent years across the world as never before. Trans groups have become targets of intense online abuse and hostile political and religious campaigns. The media abound with reports on a few glamorous trans women, or anti-trans attacks, but say little about the everyday realities of trans lives or their global diversity.
In this book, Raewyn Connell, a world-leading sociologist and gender researcher, gathers the evidence and writes about the lives of trans women and men, hijra, travesti, and other groups around the world. She looks at the forces shaping trans lives, including medicine and its limitations, precarity and poverty, unequal gender relations, the role of sex work, and encounters with the state and the corporate economy. She discusses what is behind anti-trans campaigns, criticizing the simplistic idea that 'transphobia' explains these, and suggesting more potent causes. Finally, by exploring the creative ways trans groups have organized, she argues for the contribution they can and should make to solving our shared contemporary crises.
Artist Sage NiāJa Whitson found an unusual way to remember those who were killed or died by suicide between 2018 and 2025
Between 2021 and 2025, Black nonbinary artist Sage NiāJa Whitson visited 91 locations across 15 states ā in all of these sites a trans, gender nonconforming, or intersex individual had died, either by murder or suicide. At each site they conducted a ceremony of their own to bear witness to what had happened there.
āIt was very challenging in ways that Iām continuing to mend from and rest with,ā they said. āIt is not āinexpensiveā on my body and spirit. That cost I knew would be there.ā
Currently showing at Los Angelesās California African American Museum (CAAM) is These Waking Glories, Whitsonās solo show displaying a variety of photos and other pieces in conjunction with these ceremonies. A moving and important bearing of witness to the violence that continues to ravage the communities of both racial and gender minorities, it is a powerful show that should be experienced.
