Issue 26′s end and anti-pygmies
Hello followers! We’ve been brainstorming all day here behind the scenes, and some interesting theories arose today!
Ones involving two critical bits of information about what would have transpired past PGC’s unfortunate, and hopefully not absolute, end.
-------------------------[Oh, spoiler warning by the way!]-------------------------------
Alright! So, first up, we have this image I’m sure you all are familiar with by now;
It’s the last page of Issue#26, and, our subject today.
As some of you may know, we have names to put to some of these faces, and they propose some interesting ideas.
Enhance!
Here we go, a couple odd new friends(?)
(I wish I could tell you why the weeb pygmies exist, and also why their names are in a slightly different style.)
Right at the get-go, we can see Roshi, Tork, Baka, Rewbee, another girl pygmy, a mysterious background doorway pygmy, and Otaku in the last page. This is cool in and of itself! But we, the mods here at PGCHelpdesk, think we can dig a little deeper than that. So, buckle up because this post might get a bit long so just bear with us!
--------------------------------[The Anti-Pygmies Theory]-----------------------------------
Right off the bat, we realized something was strange and... maybe familiar? about this group. There’s definitely some features being shared with existing pygmies. Specifically, the good old tribe of Ooga Chaka. (Is that still the canon name? Who knows, really.)
For the sake of this theory, we’re going to reduce this eight-character roster into 6 for... reasons you’ll understand in a second. Let’s take out the girl and the old pygmy.
Now, the theory. Once these similarities came to our attention, we began formulating an idea that, perhaps, these pygmies all have a corresponding original-tribe member. We can start with Pow.
Pow = Ooga
This one seems easy. Pow looks all in all very protagonist-like. And, close in stature to an average, run-of-the-mill pygmy. Except, why the wrench? Well, it’s been casually mentioned that Ooga isn’t very good at construction.
Baka = Klik
This one speaks for itself. A textbook nerd, down to the glasses and gesture. Albeit a very archetypal one at that. (More on that later.)
Kenichi = Dooby
We’re fairly certain here that this stoic-looking beanpole would be of a quiet and focused nature. Seems to be a martial artist, maybe? Interesting.
Also, triangle cheek marks. Not conclusive, but y’know.
Tork = Klak and Kort = Booga
This is where things get more involved. Naturally, at first I was sure Tork would be Booga’s equivalent! He’s big isn’t he? That’s where It was pointed out to me that perhaps these characters have something the originals don’t, or have insecurities about.
Looking at Tork, he’s clearly a protector. Kort, meanwhile, for the theory, seems like he could be more of a charmer? Well, is there anything else to prove they’re not switched? What makes us so sure of Kort corresponding to Booga?
Well, aside from the excessive facial hair, we are certain that this is a clue.
He’s the only new pygmy with a loincloth similar to Booga’s.
(Sidenote, but this, determining who fits who, makes it all the more intriguing that Tork and Kort’s names are so close (literally just flipped). Perhaps Klak and Booga would have gotten some overlap.
(Also, we hate to say this one, but Bolt Creative isn’t slick and it’s probably no coincidence that the first we see of Tork is him eating.)
Lastly, Otaku = Nooby
There isn’t much to say for Otaku, other than that he appears to be the most child-like, and smaller than his peers, so we’ll hold off on him for now.
--------------------------------[So what does it all mean?]-----------------------------------
The working theories for the direction Pocket God would go are as follows;
A). During their stay in the Birdhouse™, the tribe comes to know these pygmies, and... they’re like them, but who they wish they were. Pow has some slick skills that even Ooga can’t keep up with. Tork is athletic and strong. Kort has a way with words (and we just KNOW Bolt Creative was setting him up for some kind of *gag* unrequited Kinsee romance despite them clearly being closeted mlm wlw solidarity). Kenichi is in touch with his zen or whatever, maybe more so with all that focus? Baka outnerds klik in scientific method, and who knows with Otaku. The tribe’s insecurities are absolutely preyed on.
B). The pygmies meet these strangers and... they’re absolutely awful! Baka is insufferable! Pow doesn’t ever take a moment to think! But, the more annoyed they get with these jerks, the more they ask themselves; “Is that... me?” Klik is appalled at how condescending his counterpart is, Ooga can’t help but be infuriated by the recklessness of his correspondent. They’re mortified because, gods, is that how they sound to everyone?? Their insecurities are, once again, picked at mercilessly by bad caricatures of themselves.
C). Some mix of both! Perhaps its one way for some and the other for the rest, or maybe it starts out as admiration and takes a swift 180 into “oh god please shut up” town? The possibilities are endless!
Or, they were. We suppose it’s all in the open, if Pocket God Comics are indeed done with. What do you all think, followers?
