This week, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with the National VA SimLEARN TEAM. The National SimLEARN, Assessment Collaboration and Outreach Team provided Simulation System/Hospital Activation (SHA) for the Robert S. Poydasheff VA Clinic the week June 14-16, 2022. The team conducted 20 simulation scenarios with 44 participants, representing 14 services lines. The goal of System/Hospital Activation team is to proactively assess workflow, patient-flow, emergency procedures, equipment and communication to identify latent safety threats or deficiencies prior to opening of new facility to improve care for Veterans.
To quote one of the founding fathers of healthcare simulation, Dr. David Gaba, "Simulation is a technique—not a technology—to replace or amplify real experiences with guided experiences that evoke or replicate substantial aspects of the real world in a fully interactive manner."
