Hi! I'm Phantom-Spice, but you can call me Spice! I enjoy OC making and Twst has been my main obsession since it came out in English. I'm currently working on a pretty ambitious Twst OC project I am calling Project Raven. Im not the greatest with posting, but I plan on getting better at it. I will also be making side blogs for my other many obsessions.

So @artfight staff have decided to make the worst decision possible to amend their new rules, and needless to say I'm Very Annoyed about it. Not only is it extremely out of touch, but it's impossible to enforce and I'd even go so far as to say it'd detrimental to game's longevity in general.

I don't think I have to explain to ya'll just how tone deaf this rule is, but I'll do it anyway. With this rule in place, you can't use ANY visual references for poses and anatomy. At all. Even if you make the pose yourself with a program like DesignDoll, even if you take the photo yourself, even if you use a public domain model image, all of it is now "against the rules". All of it. Period. What this says to me is that you use any anatomy or pose references at all, then by AF's standards you are now cheating.

Internet oldies might remember this kind of discourse from circa 2005 on DeviantART. This idea that you can't use bases or photographs (INCLUDING ONES YOU TOOK YOURSELF!!!) for references (even if you're NOT tracing them!!!!) is not only backwards, but extremely out of touch with the process involved in making fine art of any quality.

I could go on, but I found some commentary from a fellow bsky artist (i dunno if you wanna be tagged on here) that sums up the rest of my thoughts pretty nicely:

In short, I hope you reconsider this rule @artfight. Not only does it feel extremely out of touch considering what Art Fight is, but I find that this rule will only serve to alienate people, drive active player count down, and will be completely unenforceable at best. The only way someone would be able to know if someone is using a photograph reference or 3D model reference is if A) they snitched on themself, which they most likely will not do, or B) someone baselessly accused them of using one, which can be used to falsely report other users and cause infighting of untold degrees between users.

And I will say, on my own accord, I don't have a problem with abstaining from playing just because of how tasteless this decision is. I work myself to the bone every year trying to meet AF's strict one month deadline while juggling my day job and family matters, and I have zero qualms of putting an end to my multi-year streak of participation. Others likely feel the very same way. Once again, I hope you reconsider this rule and how you all look at AF from a player perspective, because as it is right now this is outrageous.

School has just been kicking my ass for the past couple of weeks, and just when the stress was at its peak, Twst came down like a god damn angel and blessed me with these silhouettes

I mean it's only the silhouettes and I'm just kicking my feet looming at them!! I'm so excited!!

I've seen some people worried about the next phase and twst turning into genshin impact. And personally I'm not to worried because if we want twst to survive for a long time it needs to keep pumping out content and introducing a set of new characters is a great way to keep the game alive.

Also side note, I just hope that neige is not one of the silhouettes. I know it would make sense, but I just don't want 6 new characters and 1 that we have already seen. I mean, it wouldn't ruin it for me, and I wouldn't be upset, but it would be disappointing.

Yall I've recently just started watching Gachiakuta and it's like a fucking peak anime! Like it almost rivals my love for twst. Like I've impulsively bought all of the manga a couple days ago lol 😅

Anyway, I've also been reading a bunch of xreaders for the anime and I've wonder if I should exercise my free will and write some xreaders myself? I am working on a creative writing degree in college.

Recently I have been just doing school and working on other projects and Twst has been mostly on the back burner for me BUT HOLY GOD IF IDIA'S NEW YEAR'S CARD DID JUST WAKE ME UP LIKE A SLEEPER AGENT!!

I feel as though, with the New Year's event coming up, that it might benefit folks to be reminded to do some research on traditional kimono before they draw the canon characters or OCs in kimono. I'm not going to lie, I have seen a lot of folks put masc characters in women's kimonos, and femme characters in men's kimonos. I've seen a lot of folks draw sleeves incorrectly and at the wrong length, indicating class and marital status. I've seen folks draw obis in the front, which historically has been seen as wildly improper.

There are differences between male/female kimonos. There are differences between singled/married kimonos. The accessories, designs, and colors all carry meaning and significance. While I understand a lot of folks do genuinely want to explore and have fun with kimono, and I do genuinely think its good to learn and explore creatively with regards to other cultures besides our own, it is important to remember that this is an aspect of traditional Japanese culture that has hundreds of years of history, nuances, and social signalling. And we are responsible for handling these things with intentionality and respect.

i'd like to add that the shadow color isnt necessarily dictated entirely by the primary light source, but the bounce light! so for the example of a sunny environment, the reason the shadows are blue are because of the light from the blue sky reflects across the environment; but, if the character were to be under tree cover, the bounce light would be coming from the leaves and thus the shadow would look greener.

James Gurney is an absolute master and gives really good clarity on colour techniques. Yes, it is traditional paint focused, but the principles are the same. Yes it is informed by the environmental colour but as a painting technique it is achieved this way!

I would also suggest that in digital processing, rather than apply a regular colour layer at a mid opacity, try out the different types of layers, Eg. Screen or Multiply. This can give you at least a starting point to help direct your colour palette.

Layer Blend Modes are so so so important to working in digital art. There's a ton of math that goes into figuring out how the layers should blend together, which is why some of the modes you can pick are literally called Multiply, Add, Divide, and Difference (that's subtraction). The graphics software takes the color values of your base and blend layers and runs a calculation to get your resulting layer appearance. The ones that don't have specifically mathematical sounding names are still doing calculations, but they're more complicated (think linear Algebra and higher). Some of them, like dodge and burn, are named for actual photo editing techniques.

While it's not super important to know about the mathematical side of blend modes, I think it's worth knowing at least enough about how each of the categories of blend modes works and why they do what they do; if for no other reason than having a starting point when you start experimenting with them in your work.

I know everyone is talking about the anime (and ill watch it, I swear! im just busy with other anime atm) But I just got to the end of the Nightmare Before Christmas Event and THEY TOOK OUT THEM SINGING THE SONG!!! THAT WAS MY FAVORITE PART!! I mean I have the Japanese app so I can hear it there, but its about the principle!!

I know its probably because they couldnt get the rights to the song or something but its still bothersome, especially since them singing the song is so cute lol

Well I hope english only players can at least find the song on youtube or even spotify so they can hear it. I know its on one of those websites.

I keep on forgetting that the Japanese twisted wonderland app is a day ahead, and I was wondering why Idia was just randomly talking to me and I was sitting here like-

gentle reminder to everyone that new fans are gonna be just that: new.

please do not bash or send hate to anyone who got newly introduced to the fandom because of the anime just because they "interpretated a character wrong" or "couldn't read past the surface level characterizations" or "haven't known the character for as long as other fans have".

everyone has to go through their own journey to develop their opinions and interpretations of the characters' stories. just because they're only starting now doesn't make them any less of a fan. that's part of the fun of twst! give them the chance to learn about the characters naturally or, better yet, encourage their excitement by sharing cool tidbits about the characters they like or the worldbuilding!

and if you don't feel like or get uncomfortable seeing people interpreting a character differently from you? that's also perfectly fine and normal!

but please, for the love of god, do NOT harrass or put anyone down for "mischaracterizing" your faves. noone is (or should be) forcing you to enjoy your media the way you don't want. you are not entitled to anyone's opinions or headcanons. block, mute and move on.

is it probably upsetting to see someone misunderstand a character? yes! is it wrong to hate a popular headcanon/common misconception/stereotype? absolutely not! but that does not warrant a hate campaign, nor is it a reason to make a post hating on that opinion. being told "how to interact with media" is a one-way stop to making the fandom (and possibly, the media itself) not fun to interact with anymore.

it discourages new fans from participating in fandom activity. and that's fun for nobody! we're depriving ourselves from the works that new artists/fanfic writers/creatives can contribute to fuel our love for our favourite game! and new fans won't be able to enjoy twst and its lovable characters to the fullest! if someone's take isn't for you, that's fine. but let's not yuck anyone's yum, alright? let's make the twst community a fun place for everyone!

talking excitedly and discussing different viewpoints with other fans that have opinions opposite to yours is MUCH more fun than fighting and dissing people about it because you both think a character "SHOULD" be this way.

tldr; curate your fandom experience to be the most enjoyable for you. don't ruin other people's journey, encourage it. respecting enjoyment goes both ways, please be mindful of it. 🙏

I am SO happy that the anime is coming out! And the fact that an English dub is already announced is amazing!!

I remember having to wait YEARS for an anime to get dubbed so I'm glad that's it's happening almost immediately!

But I am still pretty scared of it coming out because that means new eyes on the franchise. And idk I'm just worried of backlash and other random toxic people trying to ruin something I love.

I'm sure it will be fine, but part of me is still worried..
