The early church spoke in tongues in Acts 2. Why is it weird for the modern church to do those things when the apostles, who literally walked with Jesus, did. I'm really confused as to why you find it weird lol

It’s not that I find it weird, it’s that I find it unbiblical. (It is weird though).

What we see in modern Pentecostal movements is nothing like what happened in Acts 2. At Pentecost, the disciples were all speaking different languages. In verses 6-12 we see that a crowd gathered and they were amazed because the disciples were speaking their language. It was not some strange otherworldly language that no one understands.

Also, Pentecost was an era defining event that introduced a new redemptive historical epoch. It was not something that was to be replicated over and over throughout the life of the church. Just because the apostles did something, doesn’t mean that it is to be normative for the Church at large in perpetuity.

Explained very well. God used a miracle to spread His gospel to a very large, diverse crowd. If everyone in the room speaks the same language, it doesn't make sense to create a new language that no one understands. Our God is not a God of confusion.
