7 Things I’ve Said in Past Posts That Were Actually Mostly (or Totally) Wrong *calling myself out for your enjoyment, again*
Hello skincare friends. So my past post on “10 Things I Used to Believe About Skincare But Now I Know Aren’t True” made me realize that I’ve told you all a few things in the past that I know now were a little off (or a lot off, lol). So here’s a list of things I’ve written in past posts or in ask replies that were actually mostly (or totally) wrong. Preliminary note: whoops.
Hi everyone! Christmas is one week away, who is ready to sleigh? 🎄🎅 If you want to start 2021 with new skin-goals, check out these books from Dr Libby Weaver and Jennifer Rock. Jennifer Rock’s book, “The Skin Nerd,” is a fun, quirky and easy read to help you understand and love skincare as much as she does. Dr Libby Weaver’s book, “The Beauty Guide,” explores the mind/body/gut connection with biochemistry and how a healthy gut and healthy mind can help you achieve your skin-goals, hair goals, and generally all things beauty. Both are so enjoyable to read and I look forward to sharing some of my favourite chapters with you! Merry Christmas, Love from Philly 💋 #skincare #thebeautyguide #theskinnerd #drlibbyweaver #jenniferrock #books #skingoals https://www.instagram.com/p/CI28SnVDsPR/?igshid=1nmd0jfli4mqp
Why DO you need a skincare routine? Why is everyone talking about it? Looking after your skin has become SUPER popular over the last few years where we even see celebrity’s coming out with their own skincare line (for e.g., Kylie Skin). Everyone wants to look and feel their best, and we usually do it with makeup and a nice outfit. But now, we have come to realise its the base, our very own foundation, that can help us look and feel our best - SKIN!
Skincare has been modified to suit the needs of our skin - past the basic scrub and moisturiser. Now, we have serums, facial oils, vitamin B for this and vitamin C for that, SPF, eye creams, essences, facial sprays… it can be a bit overwhelming!
SO why do we have so many products available for just our face? We regenerate new skin cells every 21-28 days. On top of that, we are shedding roughly 30-40,000 dead skin cells everyday! This is why cleansing daily is important for your face and your body. You need to remove the excess dirt, dead skin and makeup/SPF to unclog your pores and allow your new cells and sebum to come out. Clogged pores lead to what is commonly referred to as black heads, white heads, and the very common pimple.
On top of that, there are different skin types - DRY, OILY and PDR (Permanent Diffused Redness). You can be one, or the other, or combination skin (this is usually oily T-zone and dry cheeks) or a balanced skin type where your skin is not too dry, not too oily, and don’t experience redness.
Next, we have skin concerns which is something that comes and goes when treated with the correct skincare product or see professionals. These include acne, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkle and dark under eyes just to name a few.
So now you can understand why we have so many skincare products to choose from! If you are suffering from acne but have a combination skin type (dry cheeks and oily t-zone) you would not want a cleanser that is too stripping as most acne cleansers are. It will dry out your already dry skin areas and cause irritations which can lead to more breakouts. Not ideal!
How did you like your introduction to skincare? My next post will be about our skin types going into more detail, with a list of ingredients to look out for in your products you should use and avoid!
Thank you for visiting, Love from Philly.
