I believe Alceste is doing everything he can to find happiness, which of course isn't going to happen through isolation and such bitterness. But I think he is in charge of what he wants in life... And thank you! We certainly must catch up soon as Eliante has been missing you lately.

Exactly Alceste! We should be more understanding of the mistakes humans make. If we refuse to do so, then no one can value each other's friendship.
I feel this song is an accurate representation of a society where money and aristocratic social behavior isn't the most important aspect in culture. I think it leads a good example where we don't need to think about material possessions and social status to accept a person as "there's no greater folly, if you ask me, that trying to reform society".

I would love to hear all about Celimene's countless suitors (even though Eliante is obviously the better choice). Alceste, however, would "have no taste for idle chatter".
I believe that dogs are a perfect role model for society. It may sound ridiculous but they set an example of extreme loyalty and acceptance, plus they're adorable. They allow for "all poor human creatures to be embraced".
It's very curious how very few people understand that moral behavior should be based on modesty and restraint. It allows you to look past people's flaws or "pardon mankind for its petty crimes". You will eventually be rewarded with true happiness and you will be able to surround yourself with people who you are capable of appreciating, "and show some leniency toward human failings".
It's rather frightening how a young girl is capable of such violent acts upon someone she loves. It's horrific to think that one small personality trait can make such a large impact on somebody. We all need to learn to get along.
