Just had a phone battle with my energy provider, who decided to hike my fortnightly electricity direct debit. I'm in credit with them, as well. I got an email telling me my direct debit would increase from next Tuesday. I've been in credit with my electricity account for a few years. Every year the company tries to raise my direct debit, every year I tell them no. And I am still in credit.
I know the cost of electricity is going up in March, so I proposed a small increase, rather than the whopping one the company were going to take. I said if the small increase isn't enough, I can pay any difference when I get my bill. My bills are quite modest.
The justification for trying to hike the direct debit is their 'projected usage for the year'. And every year they are wrong. I've better things to do with my money than leaving it sat in their hands as a reserve 'just in case'. #electricity #fttimes
