Here’s a tiny sneak peak of L&F ch 15 because I’m fueled by validation
Phillip walked up to the address that Eloise gave him and walked up to the call box. He found the name Bridgerton (along with Featherington and Sharma) and pressed the button.
“Hi Phillip, I’m just finishing getting ready, I’ll buzz you in and you can come up!” Eloise’s disembodied voice indicated from the box. There was a buzz and Phillip could hear the door unlock, so he entered the lobby and took the elevator to the twelfth floor.
When he reached apartment 1205, he hesitantly knocked on the door only for it to fly open almost immediately.
“Hello!” a lovely young woman with dark hair and eyes said, stretching out her hand, “you must be Phillip!”
“I’m afraid so,” Phillip said, shaking her proffered hand.
“I’m Edwina! It’s so wonderful to meet you!” she said.
“Likewise,” Phillip replied, “Eloise told me you were the first victim of my childrens’ little backseat surprise”
“Yes, but did she tell you that I guessed what it was by smell alone?”
“No,” Phillip paused, “that’s actually pretty impressive.”
“I like to think so,” Ewina said, “but I digress. Please come in! Eloise will be out soon.”
Phillip entered and turned the corner into the living room where there was a young red-headed woman.
“Hi there! I’m Penelope!” she said with alacrity.
“Nice to meet you, Penelope,” Phillip said with a nod, “Colin talked a lot about you this past weekend,”
At this Penelope blushed.
Then Phillip heard a door open. Eloise walked into the room and as far as Phillip was concerned, he was done for. She looked absolutely stunning. Her hair was down in loose curls and she was wearing a short sleeved dress, black with a floral pattern with the skirt ending just above her knee.
“Hi,” she said upon seeing Phillip.
“Uh, hi,” he said, regaining his composure.
“You look very handsome,” she said with a smile. He did look handsome. He was wearing a casual suit that Eloise thought fit him very well.
“Oh, um thank you,” he said, “these are for you by the way,” he gave her a bouquet of red-tipped yellow roses.
“Oh Phillip, these are beautiful!” she said, embracing him and giving him a kiss on the cheek, “I’m going to put these in some water, and then we can get going!”
Eloise went to her hallway closet in an attempt to find a vase, all the while admiring the roses. They smelled absolutely lovely, both their natural smell of roses, but also the slightest hint of Phillip’s cologne. She found a vase and deposited the roses on the kitchen counter then hurried back over to Phillip.
“Shall we?” she said, putting her arm out.
“Let’s,” Phillip said, snaking his arm through hers.
“It was nice to meet you, Phillip!” Edwina said as the couple walked out the door.
Phillip was almost too caught up in Eloise to properly reply, but as the front door shut, he had the presence of mind to reply with a genuine “you as well!”
Eloise led Phillip down the hall a bit farther before she wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a kiss on the lips.
“I would’ve done this sooner if it hadn’t been for the two nosy roommates”
“They didn’t seem too nosy to me!” Phillip replied, “curious, but not nosy.”
“It’s no matter,” she said, running her hands through his hair, “we won’t have to deal with their curiosity after dinner. They’ll be out.”
Phillip arched his brow and was about to say something before Eloise interrupted him.
“So, where are you taking me?” she said.
“Well,” Philip said, a bit taken aback, “there’s actually this little Italian place a few blocks away from here that I’ve been to a couple of times before, how’s that sound to you?”
“It sounds wonderful,” she said, “but only if the owner plays the concertina for us while we share a plate of spaghetti in the back alley.”
“Oh man, I knew turning down the Lady and the Tramp special was a mistake,” Phillip joked.
Eloise let out a hearty laugh as they walked toward the elevator.
“Have I ever told you how lovely you are when you laugh?” Phillip asked as the elevator doors opened.
“No, but I wouldn’t be averse to hearing it,” she smiled.
“Oh, Eloise, I think I might finally be wearing you down when it comes to receiving my compliments,” he said with feigned shock.
