Hi! My name is Ashley and I'm 19 years old! I'm originally from a small town in California called Dixon (it's near San Francisco). I'm a sophomore Psychology major with minors in Criminal Justice and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies. I have a cat named Khaleesi here with me at school and 2 little doggies back at home. I joined PSP to meet new people and because I wanted to be a part of something where we did good for the community as well as had a fun time together!

I am a child and family development major with a minor in psychology. I am from Overland Park, Kansas so I am a huge royals fan. I want to work in a nonprofit to help kids in need. I joined PSP because I wanted to meet a diverse new group of people with the same values that I have. After I attended the recruitment events I knew these were people I wanted to get to know better. I'm excited for initiation and can't wait to spend the rest of my college years with PSP

I am a psychology major double minoring in child and family development and women, gender& sexuality studies. I joined Phi Sigma Pi because I wanted to see what my bestfriend was talking about and why she loved it so much. Once I read up on what they stood for and the core values on the tripod. I was pretty much sold. Last year I saw them all at Music in Motion and I met some pretty kind hearted people. Meet Erin, Brother of the Week

Lover of puns and dad-jokes, Erin comes from O’Fallon, Missouri, which is located in the St. Louis Area. Erin is 22 years old and graduates in May of 2017 with her degree in Early Childhood Development/Elementary Ed - she would like to work with Kindergarten - Second Grade students. Erin joined Phi Sigma Pi during the Alpha Epsilon Class and has enjoyed her time in this honor fraternity ever since being inducted.

Q: “What would you say is your favorite album, band, song, or artist?”

A: The Band Perry and Rascal Flats - well really just Country music, anything but heavy metal (Sorry Metalheads). My favorite song would have to be “I’m a Keeper” by The Band Perry, but some fun songs I like to listen to are “Eye of the Tiger” by survivor and “Heat of the Moment” by Asia.

Q: “Any reason for the last two songs?”

A: Both of those songs show up in my favorite show, Supernatural.

Q: “Ah, so you’re a Supernatural fan! Who is your favorite character and do you have a favorite episode?”

A: Sammy is my favorite character, I adore the actor [Jared Padalecki] who plays him.

Q: “So what made you want to join Phi Sigma Pi?”

A: I had just transferred from a community college to UCM and wanted to do something besides going to class and going back to my dorm room so I decided to join, it helped that I already had a few friends within the fraternity too! Phi Sigma Pi also helped me get more involved on campus and meet new people!

Q: “ What do you like most about Phi Sigma Pi?”

A: I get this sense of family from this organization, kinda like if you mess with one of us you get all of us and I love that about us! This organization has also become a second family to me since my family is so far away now.

Q: “You mentioned you are from St. Louis but has your family moved further away?”

A: Yeah last year during homecoming my family moved down to Florida! So it’s pretty nice that during my holiday breaks I get to go to Florida, we just recently got our house built so now we get to enjoy the state more!

*At this point during our talk a bee decided to land on my face and listen in so I got up, and started flailing my arms all while holding my laptop in one hand and trying to slap the bee away from me with the other - it went away eventually but the trauma remains.*

Q: “If you could speak to your Freshman self or give them advice what would you say?”

A: Your planner is your friend - don’t ever lose it, use it. I’d also let myself know that it’s going to be okay. Hard situations will come out of nowhere but they will pass with time, don’t worry about it as much.

Q: “What’s something that can always put you in a better mood? Like no matter what the case - this thing happens and you feel a little bit better about your day?”

A: I love puns and dad-jokes, in fact I have one that I always love to say and when I say it I’ll instantly starting laughing!!

Brother of the Week: Michelle!

Michelle Anderson comes all the way from the weird small town of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. She joined the beautiful Alpha Chapter of Phi Sigma Pi in the Spring of 2013 as part of the Alpha Beta Class. After changing her major about half a dozen times she decided on a major in Fashion, Textiles, and Clothing in Business. Let’s get down to it!

1.) What is your greatest accomplishment?

Initially I would say surviving life up until this point because I kind of just fumble around, but in all honesty it would have to be getting my bra picked for the Kansas City Art Bra.

2.) What is your all time favorite song?

When I’m 64 by the Beatles!

3.) Funniest dating experience?

I don’t know if it’s really funny but it's kind of mean, I was playing some rap music in my car and my boyfriend at the time started saying derogatory things about it. I told him that’s not ok and he did it again so I told him to get out of my car. I pulled over and kicked him out and drove off..I went back for him though.

4.) What’s your favorite book?

Ultimately it’s always Harry Potter, but Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite because that’s when Rowling found her sense of humor and it was grand.

5.) What’s the hardest thing you’ve overcome thus far in life?

I think it would have to be the summer after my first year in Warrensburg, moving home and admitting that I didn't have my life together and that it was ok to ask for help.

6.) Who do you look up to?

My dad, he’s just a great human and if I could multiply him and let everyone have a dad like him I would let that happen!

7.) What is your spirit animal?

A hippo, I just want to be one.

8.) What’s the hardest you’ve ever laughed?

Recently, no I was high I shouldn't tell that story..Ok, I was at a friends house and we were watching the episode of South Park where they try to take over World of Warcraft and for some reason listening to the two guys I was with mimic Cartman sent me over the edge and I thought I was going to wake up with abs in the morning I was laughing so hard.

9.) How would you describe your style?

I would say it depends on my mood.

10.) If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing what would it be?

Bangs are not flattering on you, you cannot chug whiskey, and he’s really just not worth it.

Ms. Kylie Warner is from O’Fallon, Missouri. She joined Phi Sigma Pi in fall of 2013. She’s an Elementary Education major. After graduation this one has some grand plans. She will be moving back to the STL area. Once, home she will spend her time hanging out with her dogs 24/7 and not ever being an adult. She will start her day with a shower beer (that’s really a cider) then having a mimosa with breakfast, then moving on to having a marg with lunch and what she drinks with dinner will be her daily surprise.

FOMO (it is a real thing)

Attempting to be young and hip with the kids I’m teaching

Any One Direction song. They don’t necessarily sum up my life, but they are actual perfection and I am in love with them, so they obviously needed to be mentioned here.

I’M A BORE WHO DOES NOT DATE (because I’ve been dating the same person since 2011. I am gross, I know)

10. What show are your currently binge watching?

I just finished HIMYM and now I need something new, but instead of searching for that new show I started Secret Life of the American Teenager again. I hate myself for watching it too.

Kylie, Kenzie, Alyssa and I were on our way home from Spring Break last year and Kenzie was driving. Alyssa, Kylie and I were sleeping because it was like 3 in the morning and we woke up to Kenzie saying “sorry guys.” Kenzie was getting pulled over and the state trooper asked where we were heading home from. Kenzie told him Vegas and she proceeded to tell him that we went to a male strip show (Thunder Down Under) because she was so nervous. The state trooper just shook his head and laughed, but hey we got out of a ticket!

4. If you could meet anyone in history who would it be?

Heath Ledger

5. What is your spirit animal?

Panda

6. What’s your favorite book?

Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham

7. What is your earliest memory?

Probably whatever happened yesterday

9. If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing what would it be? Don’t stress the small stuff. It is what it is.

Teleportation because I’m late everywhere I go.

Keith Weston is a simple man. A man of few words if you will. He’s from the grand town of Clinton, Missouri. He’s getting a degree in Computer Information Systems. After graduation he has no plan. He’s just going to wing it.

I remember my first day of kindergarten. It was raining and my dad made me late.

3. Where do you see yourself in 15 years?

Living in London, England with a wife and a couple kids.

4. What’s the hardest thing you’ve overcome thus far in life?

I’ve had a lot of surgeries on one of my legs. It still hurts quite a bit sometimes, but I overcome it and live my life.

“Bringing Sexy Back” JK! ummmm, I would have to say “Cooler Than Me” by Mike Posner

The entire Harry Potter series

8. If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing what would it be?

It doesn’t matter what people think about you. Focus on what makes you happy.

9 . If you could have any super power what would it be?

The ability to teleport! I could travel the world for free!

10 . Funniest dating experience?

I don’t have much experience in that area and don’t have any good stories for you!

Little Miss Sunshine a.k.a Kayla Rogers-Sigetich comes from the city of the white squirrels, Marionville, Missouri. She’s a member of the Alpha Alpha class. Besides being fabulous, she is a Senior with a major in Marketing and a minor in Computer Information Systems. After graduation, she will be moving to KC, working at Best Buy until she figures out what life has in store for her. Ms. Rogers-Sigetich will be adopting a pretty wittle kitty (that will be named Rio after Duran Duran’s 1982 hit) to help pass the time.

1. What is your best trait?

I try hard to be true to myself and my friends. I aim to be honest, caring, and hardworking. However, I am an excellent beer drinker and procrastinator.

2. What is your spirit animal?

Some days I say Ke$ha. She loves glitter and waking up in strange places after a night out.

3. How would you describe your style?

“I woke up and I’m here. You’re welcome.”

4. If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing what would it be?

I’d tell myself that things are not as bad as they seem and that there are bigger problems to face. I would tell 2013, Kayla that it gets better and that she had a hell of a group of friends to get through it with.

5. If you could have any super power what would it be?

I’d like to have the power to keep my hair straight despite any weather condition. Also, procrastinating without consequences would be rad.

6. What’s your favorite quote?

7. What is your greatest accomplishment?

Chuck Ambrose asked me to speak at the State of the University Address in 2014.

8. What’s your all time favorite song?

“I Wanna Get Better” by Bleachers. It’s cliché to say music changes your life, but I can say with certainty, I would still be in the slump I was in before I found the song.

9. What‘s your biggest fear?

I don’t want to be stuck living a life I hate. I want to always better myself and surround myself with good people.

10. Where do you see yourself in 15 years?

Wait, you’re telling me that eventually I have to be 37?!?! Hopefully, I’ll live in a rad loft with a cat and a ton of craft beer.

11. Funniest dating experience?

Hahaha, people would have to date me in order to have dating experiences.

12. Your life summed up in one song?

13. What is your earliest memory?

I distinctly remember falling off my bike and having to go the hospital. I was terrified to ride a bike again. (Hmmm.. seems like a life lesson there)

14. Who do you look up to?

My dad. He’s my best friend. He’s been through a lot in his life and it’s inspiring to see how he’s made himself a better person. I want to grow up with that mindset

15. What’s the hardest you ever laughed?

Summer 2015, a bunch of us were at Fast Eddie’s in Illinois for Michelle’s birthday and my car ran out of gas. We walked to the nearby gas station and for the life of us couldn’t figure out how to use it. The picture doesn’t do it justice, but we died laughing

Mason Hunter!

Mr. Hunter is a townie and a senior here in the Dirty Burg. In the fall of 2014, he thought to himself, “gee, I don’t know enough people in this grrrrreat town. I should join Phi Sigma Pi!”. So, join he did. On May 6th, 2016 at 6:30 pm, Mason will walk across that beautiful stage and receive his diploma. That shinning diploma that he will get in the mail several months later will say that he majored in Sports Management. Life after graduation will consist of selling his soul in Grad school (again in the Dirty) and drowning in adult life.

Let’s get down to the good stuff:

1. What is your best trait?

Its definitely my sense of humor even if you’re not funny I will at least fake laugh.

2. What is your earliest memory?

Cutting my knee open in Kindergarten with “safety” scissors, I thought I could be track star and hurdle a trash can…my career ended before it could begin.

3. What s your favorite quote?

“In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is Freedom, in water there is bacteria.” –Benjamin Franklin homeboy knew what was up.

4. What is your greatest accomplishment?

Graduating college literally made it through without throwing myself in front of a bus. So yeah, major accomplishment

5. Where do you see yourself in 15 years?

Hopefully rich AF or living comfortably with a cool job in sports.

6. If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing what would it be?

You can come out it will make you feel so much better, also eat less chips.

7. What’s on your UCM bucket list?

Park in Chuck’s private spot and not get a ticket.

8. What’s your favorite book?

The Hobbit, read that shit like 6 times.

9. What’s the hardest thing you’ve overcome thus far in life?

Coming out, yeah that sucked balls (no pun intended) but I am definitely much happier now.

10. If you could have any super power what would it be?

Freeze time! Because sometimes I would just like to slow down and chill, or stare at nice butt longer than 10 seconds.

Allison Tonyan is from Columbia, Missouri. She landed on University of Central Missouri after taking a drafting class in high school and finding out that good ole UCM was the only school in the state with an accredited Design Drafting Technology program. She joined Phi Sigma Pi last spring as a member of the Alpha Zeta class. After graduation, Allison will be working in Kansas City at Burns and McDonnell.

Now, let’s get down to business:

1. What is your best trait?

My best trait…. Hmmm.. I think I’m very empathic. I can see other peoples views.

2. Who do you look up to?

Oh shucks…. Ahhhh… probably my brother. He’s in the Navy and he just really has to work hard for everything he does. He’s just very motivational.

3. What’s the hardest you ever laughed?

Oh gosh… I don’t even know why. It was my sophomore year, and I don’t know why, but I almost peed my pants… I had to leave the room.

4. If you could meet anyone in history who would it be?

I would definitely want to meet Jesus Christ… probably just to have a lot of my questions answered and that would just be really awesome.

5. What is your spirit animal?

I should’ve thought about this more… I would say a pegasus…. Because IT’S A FLYING HORSE AND HE GETS TO HANG OUT WITH HERCULUS ANS ZESUS.

6. What’s your favorite book?

Pride and Prejudust by Jane Austin. I love romance novels, especially from that time period. I wish I could live in that time period. And wear awful corsets and go to balls.

7. What is your earliest memory?

Running away from bees…. Well, we had this swing set in our backyard and there was a bucket under it and we thought it was just full of dirt and it turns out it was full of bees.

8. How would you describe your style?

Around campus it’s really lazy, but when I actually try to look decent, I would say it’s a combination of classic, vintage and boho, but I love thrift shopping.

9. What s your favorite quote?

It’s kinda long, “ your job is not to judge. Your job is not to figure out if someone deserves something. Your job is to lift the fallen. The restote the broken and to heal the hurting” …. I think it’s a very good thing to stand for. I think it’s what we should be doing. You don’t know everyone’s story and you should always try to help.

10. What is your greatest accomplishment so far?

My life…. Probably just living my dreams. I always want to be 16 and drive, and I did it. I always wanted ot go to college and play softball and I always wanted to have job before graduation and I did it. And I’m going to get a dog.

Mr. Bowey hales to us from St Louis, MO, but the real question that needs to be asked is; what high school did he go to? Bill joined good ole Alpha chapter in spring of 2013. He’s part of the Alpha Beta class (the second oldest class currently in chapter). He is currently studying Criminal Justice. He plans on continuing his education and would like to teach at a university later in life.

Let’s get down to business:

1. What’s your best trait?

Public speaking... I believe I am naturally talented at it. I don’t have many talents.... I’m serious. Like in first grade, they told me to write down my talents and I didn’t know I was good at public speaking, so I didn’t have a talent to write down.

2. What’s the hardest you’ve ever laughed?

I have no idea... I really don’t. It was probably in high school.... OHHHH, I do know!... I can’t say! It’s really bad! I can’t.

3. If you could meet anyone in history who would it be?

Ohhh probably. I would want ot be the founding fathers. I want to meet like… damn. I’m trying to think who I could learn from…. I feel like I could learn a lot from them. I’d want to meet all the presidents. My grandpa I never met; all my family that I’ve never met. And then go through my family tree and find out who was famous and meet them. Like if I was a related to a pope or a saint. That would be really cool. It would be a lot. It would take a lot of time, but I’d make it work.

4. What is your spirit animal?

Probably a goat because I eat a lot. Hahahahaha maybe not a goat.... probably a stallion... NOOOO, don’t put that, but definitely a goat, I’m probably a tiger... because they’re pretty cool.

5. If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing what would it be?

Cut your hair. Middle school... hair, man. I’d go back and tell myself to cut that off. That was just the style, but it was more like I didn’t care.

6. If you could have any super power what would it be?

To be able to fly fast…. So I can get places quickly. Or I’d like to be able to read girls minds. That would make life easier.

7. What is your favorite quote?

“Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best.” ~ Tim Duncan…. I foulnd it online when you asked me for a quote, and I liked it. I typed in quotes and I got that. (Gotta love the honesty here people. Gotta love it).

8. Where’s the coolest place you’ve ever been?

The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY…. I went with my Dad. It was my 21st birthday gift. I could live there. It’s so cool. There are big summer houses for the rich people. Hank Aaron waved at me. Well, first his car almost hit me, then he waved at me. It was definitely the coolest thing that has ever happened. We’re basically best friends now.

9. What’s your biggest fear?

I am fearless… No, don’t put that. Hey, Casey what’s my biggest fear…. (”How am I suppose to know” Casey Adkins). Shrinking or becoming Benjamin Button. I really like being tall and I’d like to keep that up.

10. What’s your favorite song?

That is the hardest question…. I’m a huge 80’s hair band fan. I really like I will follow you by REO Speed Wagon*** that‘s just currently.

Sarah Rutherford hails to us from Pleasant Hill, Missouri. This lovely senior decided in Spring of 2014, that her life was incomplete without a band of brothers by her side! Miss. Rutherford is part of the Alpha Gamma Class. She is in her home stretch here at UCM. She will walk across that oh so glorious stage in May with a degree in Biochemistry, but don’t worry folks! She’s not done with her schooling! She’s not stopping until she’s a rich veterinarian!

Now, let’s start with the hard hitting questions!

1. What s your favorite quote?

Good ‘ol Dr. Suess - Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

2. What’s the hardest thing you’ve overcome thus far in life?

Accepting when things don’t go as planned. When I was in high school, I coached a little league basketball team. Trying to teach the girls how to do certain maneuvers without getting frustrated was pretty difficult. In the end, I couldn’t have been more proud of those girls for placing second place in the end of the year tournament!

3. . What’s on your UCM bucket list?

Almost all of my UCM bucket list is crossed off accept going onto the 5th floor of Morris (I just want to know what’s up there)

4. . What’s the hardest you ever laughed?

HAHAHAHA... When one of my roommates turned 21, we got her hammered, of course. Well on the car ride home, she was trying to text someone, but I had her phone. She pulled out her car key fob and tried to text on it. I don’t think I have laughed that hard in a long time HAHAHA

5. If you could meet anyone in history who would it be?

I would want to meet Walt Disney! I think he is really cool and I have and always will love Disney.

6. What is your spirit animal?

Uhhmmm Probably Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch because he is really sassy.. And I get really sassy… People tell me when I wear jeans, it gets worse..

7. What is your greatest accomplishment?

Uhm, well, being awesome of course!... But for real. Probably continuing to following my dreams. Ever since I was little, I have wanted to be a veterinarian and I am currently in between interviews and waiting to hear back from my dream colleges.

8. If you could have any super power what would it be?

I would want the ability to be invisible because I think it would be fun to go around and play jokes on people all day long.

9. . What is your earliest memory?

Uhm my earliest memory is shoving chocolate cake in my own face when I was like 2 or something. I think.

10. If you could sum up your life in one song, what would it be?

Well.. I don’t think I could sum my life in one song.. A few different songs maybe? Like my childhood would be described by the song My Little Girl by Tim McGraw because that’s a major Daddy’s girl song. In college, well, Thrisftshop would probably describe my life Hahaha

Let’s take a minute to get to know our Commander in Chief, Sarah Ragsdale! There is more to our President than you know! She’s a Biology major with a minor in Anthropology. After graduation, she’ll be attending grad school for Biological Anthropology. For those of you who don’t know what this means (myself included), she will be studying the migration patterns of ancient humans. Later in life, she wants to become a professor at whatever university will hire her! Wherever she goes, they’ll be luck to have her!

Now, let’s get down to business:

1. What is your best trait?

Hmmmm…. To be accepting and open minded. I guess those are two, but whatever!

2. What is your earliest memory?

Jumping out of my crib as a baby. I would just climb out, slide down the side and crawl down the hall and to get in bed with my mom.

3. If you could have one super power what would it be?

Probably to fly. I know that’s generic, but I’d love to travel wherever and whenever I wanted.

4. If you could tell your younger self one thing what would it be?

Hmmm… probably that it will be okay and don’t worry about plans changing. It takes time to learn yourself and its okay to explore and just let things fall into place.

5. Where do you see yourself in 15 years?

Hopefully, the head bitch in charge of an Anthropology Department and as a leader in the American Association of Anthropological Genetics! That’s one thing that has been instilled in me by my mom, is to be a strong independent person.

6. If your life was a TV show, what would your theme song be?

Ahhh… Oh god… I don’t know. Is there an easier question? I’m trying to decide what my show would even be about. I’d love to just be Stephen Colbert and make fun of politics and the news. We’ll come back to that… (and we didn’t hahahaha)

7. What show are your currently binge watching?

House of cards. I can’t miss an episode!

8. What is your spirit animal?

Hmmmm… Cats? Yes, it would be my own cat. I call and talk to her on the phone to be honest but no one has to know that... I call my grandma and she’ll just put me on speakerphone and we talk about our day and she answers ever question I ask. Don’t judge, we can understand each other (I speak cat).

9. What is your biggest fear?

Probably being alone. Loneliness is scary.

10. What is your greatest accomplishment, thus far?

Hmmm… Well, I haven’t done it yet, but I’m presenting my Honors College research in April at the American Association of Physical Anthropologists in Atlanta, GA. I’ll be presenting among very well-known professors who have already established their careers and conducting research for years. I’m not sure, but I think I may be the only undergraduate presenting, which is kind of neat. Its an amazing opportunity to have this early on and will be a great networking opportunity, that’s for sure!
