You know, thereâs this pattern Iâm noticing in the fandomâs commentary on Stranded. They tend to forget that in this show, Every Character is 3-Dimensional, and Not Defined by One Singular Scene. And knowing Crewniverse, this is absolutely going to include Pink Diamond.
I get the whole âwhiny flat-out Demanding Desire makes her sound like A Bratâ. And it looks like sheâs punching a window because she didnât get her way.
ButâŚ. Think about it. Sheâs acting entitled. I wouldnât say âspoiledâ (which comes from getting everything you want, so you expect it), but sheâs probably made to expect greatness.Â
Gems are born just knowing everything theyâre supposed to do. Well, a Diamond is supposed to be a leader.Â
An army has a use, they can go and fight a war.
A Sappphire has a use, she can tell you what itâs for.
An Agate terrifies, a Lapis terraforms.
Whereâs their Diamond when they need her, Blue?
Youâve got to be a leader, Blue!
And this DiamondâPink Diamond (made to be a leader)â sheâs not getting that.
Are the Diamonds not âmadeâ to Demand?
Isnât it her responsibility to WANT to fulfill her role?
Isnât that completely EXPECTED of her, as a Diamond?
Am I the only one who looks at her and sees a WORLD of potential, because every great leader in the history of the world had ONE common trait: Ambition.
And leaders donât always know what to DO with that ambition, but itâs ingrained in the core of our being, and ALL we want is to reach HIGHER. To ACHIEVE. To FULFILL our potential!
(Impatience is the natural byproduct of that; patience has to be TAUGHT.)
** By the way, none of this has anything to do with age, and everything to do with MATURITY and EXPERIENCE. (Which, some people over the age of 40 still donât have, letâs be real. Maturity has nothing to do with ~quantity~ of time, and everything to do with quality time spent BEING TAUGHT. The key really is mentorship, but thatâs a whole separate dissertation on its own.)
Anyways, my point is, Pink Diamondâs not just a brat. It was a cute joke the first couple times, but seeing everybody condescend on her for that is getting old already.
Maybe itâs just that I grew up as the oldest of 4, with one older brother I rarely saw, who always got special treatment because he was âthe oldestâ to keep me from being the Bossy Big Sibling. Maybe itâs my time with the leadership and mentoring organization teaching me to see the qualities of leadership in someone, and look beyond those emotional reactions and see the underpinnings of greatness. Maybe Iâm just sympathetic to her because I used to be a lot like that, and I was abused for speaking out and saying that I deserved better, so I know what it feels like to be told âyouâll get it when you act like you deserve itâ, when I didnât know what that WAS. And maybe Iâm just a leader stifled by finances, so like: Pink, buddy, Iâm there.
But all personal involvement aside, thereâs a lot more to this sequence than Pink not getting what she wants.Â
Sheâs not getting a chance to fulfill what her ENTIRE EXISTENCE is supposed to be!
