“So there’s this myth about people having their lives figured out in their twenties. When you’re in school you think things will change when you’re an adult, all of your problems will suddenly disappear once you cross that magical line - not to burst your bubble, but nope, not really. Your problems will become different ones, heartbreak still pretty much feels like having the air knocked from your lungs and your ribcage cracked open, failure will still lead to episodes of self-doubting and just generally losing hope for a while, and you will still lose people you thought you’d keep forever. But guess what, this is life. Every bad decision, every bad things that happens to you enables you to grow. Every mistake is a lesson to learn from. If you’re in your twenties and struggling, high-five, so am I. We all are, but most of us never voice it because like I said, in your twenties you are supposed to have your shit figured out. NO. Your twenties are years of self-discovery. Years to find out what you’re passionate about, to get out of your comfort zone and to do something that makes your heart race. To decide what kind of life you want to live. You notice that maybe some people you’ve been with are no longer good for you and keep dragging you down, so you cut the ties. You finally try your hand at something you’ve wanted to do for years. Maybe you take some time to get to know yourself better, to finally come to terms with your face, your body, your personality. Your twenties are about figuring yourself out - not about having everything else figured out.”

“What breaks me is that I isolated myself for years. I pushed people away. I never knew how to let someone in, how to place their fingertips on the silhouette of my heart and how to allow them to trace its fractured shape. To get to know its curves and edges and learn the rhythm of its beat. But with you, I tried. I poured my soul into conversations. I tried so hard to share everything with you. I tried so hard to make you like me. After all these years, I finally met someone I thought was worth being let in. I opened up, crack for crack and bit by bit. But you did not find what you were looking for in the empty spaces, in the nooks and in the crannies. You left me carved open, bleeding out for everyone to see. I knew it might happen. I knew not everything we start grows into something deeper. It‘s not all daisies and sunshine. But I tried. I really did. And still, I am where I was before: scared to open up again, with the torn off pieces of myself still clutched between my fingers, dripping scarlet onto the ground.”

“and you‘ll say that you don’t care, that you never cared, and that you don’t give a shit about what happens tomorrow. but i hear the tremble in your voice, i learned how to tell when you were truly upset from when you were just mad, anger bubbling beneath the surface, and i wish you‘d just say that tonight was a disaster, that we were a disaster, but you don’t. so i‘ll let you think that i believe you when you say that you don’t feel a thing and i‘ll let you go even though i know you just want to be held one last freaking time. you’ll let me think that everything that’s ever come out of your mouth was a lie when in reality you have never learned how to tell the poisonous words you throw around so carelessly from the truth. when in reality you don’t care about a little heartbreak, about a little pain, as long as you get a couple of carefree moments out of it. but you don’t call and you don’t text and you never say the things that feel like lead on your tongue because you remember me letting you leave, me allowing you to walk away without so much as a backwards glance. thinking i was too much of a coward to fight when in reality i just couldn’t stand to watch you go.”
— liar, liar / n.j.
“The irony of life is that sometimes you get exactly what you wished for all these years ago and suddenly it‘s not enough to make you happy. Suddenly it doesn’t live up to your expectations or your surroundings have changed so much that that desperate wish you used to harbour close to our heart just doesn’t fit anymore. Then letting go is our next challenge - moving on and finding something new to wish for. And maybe, if we‘re brave enough to chase what we want so badly, if we fight for it and are consistent in our efforts, we‘ll get it right at the exact point of time we need it. But please don’t make the easy mistake of thinking that this is how we define happiness - please make sure you find a bit of joy on the way to making these wishes come true, not only after you crossed the finish line. We often miss out on the kind of happiness that is concealed in the little things and in the small moments because we are busy waiting for the next big thing to happen. Watch out for the kind of happiness that comes easy and remember to make a couple of wishes along the way.”
