" the redhead countered with a slight but fond roll of her eyes . a completely unladylike squeal left her lips as he tickled her sides slightly , " luis . " she scolded between her laughs as she attempted to remove herself from his embrace . " you are truly insufferable . " her tone was teasing and her words were completely untrue . phoebe would not admit it out loud but he had had her swooning over him from the moment they had first met . however , the moment he had opened his mouth to speak , it had turned to annoyance . at his words and embrace , the tension eased from her shoulders slightly before a soft sigh left her lips , " i will try my best . for you , for your people . i know i will be okay . i will have you with me . Graham has been a good friend to me, and I know he's a good brother to you. He smiled down at her, though it was more a micheveious grin than anything else. She had looked beautiful, of course, and he had hated watching the eyes of the men on the ton linger too long on her. It had made the most primal part of his brain go nearly mad with a possesive instinct that had him pulling her away to somewhere more private without thinking. Not that he thought she minded, in truth. She was looking at him with something akin to fondness and while it made his chest swell with a mix of pride and, he could finally admit, love, it also filled him with a distict feeling of impending doom.

How much of her affection was borne simply from him stealing her first kiss? How much of it was simply the thrill of their secret tryst? He wanted to ask if he could court her in truth, but every time he went to open his mouth his mind filled with doubt and fear. She deserved a better man, one who would not abandon her for the sea.

His brother was wrong. How was he to take a wife who could be left with a babe and a title and little else should the winds turn hostile or pirates greedy?

So instead he shook his head, his hands curling around her waist and his head dipping to brush their noses together,hoping that she could feel the warmtg she inspired in him.

"Were I a pirate prince in truth I would have your skirts hiked up and your virtue stolen already," he deflected, pulling away with a arrogant smile, "the reality of which I do not think you prepared to handle." God, he wanted to dip his head down and capture her lips with his own, but her words brought him back to himself. "I would not want to dishonor you in such a way, lest I end up with another black eye from an angry elder brother or worse from your future husband."

Talking of such a thing caused his chest to clench painfully and his heart to race but he maintained his composure, the only sign of his displeasure the small downturn of his lips and the way his hand moved so he could run the pad of his thumb over his ring on her finger. "Of which we should speak, I suppose. Lord Astor is lucky I have not gilded him, but there are many other elligible men in attendance," he huffed, "I suppose, anyway. They all seem rather boring but perhaps you would enjoy that."

at his words , a shiver ran down her spine and her arms as she brush her nose against his in response to his own . oh , how she could get use to this ? phoebe never thought she would ever feel this way in regards to the spanish prince especially considering their disastrous first meeting . however , with every meeting they shared , the more and deeper the warm feeling grew within her . " what if i wish for you to do such a thing to me ? you would find me an extremely willing participant . " her tone was eager , even though , the red head was not sure what luis was referring to . she trusted him . she wanted to be close to him . she wanted to be his and his only . as soon as the male mentioned a future husband , it was as though cold water had been dumped over her . the warmth now gone as she processed his words . " oh , " a disappointed noise left her lips . perhaps she had been foolish to consider this could be real , to consider that he felt for her what she felt for him . " future husband , " she parroted with a lack of feeling . with the dart of her tongue , she wet her suddenly dry and parched lips as she tried to think of a response . " i have not had many offers from other gentleman . i suppose lord hamblin is nice . " emerald green hues moved away from his face , arms dropped to her side as she took a step back to create distance between them . " we should head back and find myself a suitor then . "
