It’s Valentine’s Day and Ivan is drunk and alone at a bar. He didn’t plan this, and he isn’t very happy about it, but he asks for another drink anyway because…well, he’s already here.
His so-called friends—Gilbert and Yao—were the ones who dragged him out in the first place, saying:
“It’s time you got laid."
“I agree, you’ve been holed up in the library for months."
So, Ivan followed. He liked his friends and found it hard to say no to them. His reputation as a loner was purely university gossip. Ivan didn’t mind being alone, but that was distinctly different from being a loner . Besides, being a PhD candidate made it actually rather hard to go out. He was always so busy.
Anyway, it’s been about two hours since Ivan set foot in the bar and both Gil and Yao are nowhere to be found. Probably escaping with their latest romantic conquests, leaving Ivan stranded with the bartender, and staring at his stack of empty glasses.
I should just go home, he thinks.
But he still has a shot of vodka left, so he brings it closer to the edge of the bar top.
“Heeeey, it’s you!” someone calls, bumping into Ivan’s shoulder.
Some of the liquid spills out of the shot glass and onto Ivan’s hand. He turns to the culprit and finds a tall, broad-shouldered blond man with glasses, maybe in his mid-twenties or maybe younger, grinning excitedly at him. There’s a stray lock of hair that flings over his head like an antenna, and he is dressed in an all blue uniform with a small silver emblem of two silver wings over his right breast pocket.
“It’s you, isn’t it?” the man says again, slapping a hand on Ivan’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” Ivan says automatically. Although he thinks this person should be the one apologizing for spilling his drink. “I don’t know who you are.”
“You don’t?” the man’s face falls. “I thought you felt the same way. I can’t believe this.”
How much has he had to drink? Ivan wonders idly. He doesn’t bother following up with a verbal reply.
Instead, Ivan focuses on the mostly-full shot still waiting for him and lifts it up.
“Oh! Oh! Are you doing shots? I want to try this.” Now, the man is brushed up against Ivan’s side, leaning over the bar and waving one hand wildly. “Bartender! Gimme whatever he has! And make it a double!”
“I really don’t need the company,” Ivan remarks, but he lowers his shot anyway.
The bartender returns and pours a shot for the stranger without fanfare.
“Okay, now…” the man sways a bit, but manages to hold eye contact. His eyes are extremely blue, almost ocean-blue. They almost appear to glow, but surely that’s just a trick of the light. “Now, we gotta make a toast, all right?”
“I don’t even know you,” Ivan repeats tiredly, rubbing his temple.
“Let’s toast to the future!” the man declares loudly, making other people stare. “And…uh, your PhD is in history, right?”
Ivan stares at him. “Wait, how do you know tha—”
“TO THE FUTURE AND THE PAST!” the man says over him. He forces Ivan’s hand up so they can chink glasses. “Hopefully, we can find a way to connect them,” the man adds, winking.
Ivan is incredibly confused, but he swallows the vodka anyway.
Beside him, the man makes a disgusted sound. “Ugh, what—what was that?” he asks, wiping his mouth.
“Vodka,” Ivan replies, before asking the bartender to close his tab.
The man is still there. His strange eyes follow Ivan with eerie scrutiny. Apparently clinking glasses was not the only thing he came for.
Ivan gives him a once-over. He really doesn’t recognize him at all. “So what is your name anyway? Since you seem to know me pretty well.”
“Ah—I…” The man holds his glasses between two fingers as his lips purse in frustration.
“You don’t want to tell me,” Ivan surmises with a small smile. He signs the receipt on the counter and gets up.
“No, no, wait!” The man yelps, jumping out of the stool. His fingers are still pinching the frame of his glasses. “I was, uh, translating.”
Ivan blinks. “You’re a foreigner?”
“Yes!” the man snaps his fingers and flashes a gleaming grin. “But… my friends call me, uh, Alfred.”
After so much anticipation, Ivan was expecting something more interesting than such an old-fashioned name. “Alfred,” he repeats, earning an excited nod from the stranger. Ivan shrugs nonchalantly. “Well, it was nice to meet you. Have a nice night.”
“Wait, wait, wait! Just let me pay my tab. I, uh, wanted to talk to you,” Alfred says, flushing a little. He scratches the back of his head and cracks a lopsided smile. “You have no idea how much I had to study to get up the nerve to talk to you.”
Ivan’s eyes narrow. “What?”
But Alfred doesn’t reply. Instead, he’s talking to the bartender and scribbling an illegible signature that looks more like ancient runes than the English alphabet. When he stands again, on wobbly legs, he quickly scrambles back to Ivan’s side.
“Yeah, as I was saying,” Alfred starts again, looking intently at Ivan’s face. “I’ve seen you around the campus. I’m, uh, a master’s student so we don’t cross paths that often…”
“I really don’t think we’ve ever met,” Ivan repeats. He doesn’t add that he’s quite sure he would remember someone like Alfred.
“No, I guess we haven’t met formally, but you’ve caught my eye,” Alfred confesses. “Actually, you were the… TA of a class I took last semester.”
“I was?” Now, Ivan actually feels a little bad that he doesn’t remember Alfred’s name. “Do you study history?” He pulls his coat off the barstool and slips it on one sleeve at a time.
“Nah, I was just there to get a glimpse of you,” Alfred laughs.
“That sounds vaguely threatening you know.”
“Are you leaving? Do you mind if I walk with you?”
Ivan shrugs, and they end up walking out of the bar together. The alcohol makes it easy to zone in and out of what Alfred is talking about. Something with the stars and space travel physics jargon that Ivan doesn’t really care about. Maybe Alfred is an astronomy major, he decides.
“I know you’re not listening to me,” Alfred complains as he clings to Ivan’s arm.
“...Yes, I am.” Ivan smiles. Usually, that expression would convince most people, but Alfred turns away a little miffed.
“You’re thinking about your schoolwork,” Alfred pouts.
Ivan raises a brow. Apparently, Alfred was more perceptive than Ivan gave him credit for.
The night is cold, and Ivan is happy he has his coat on so he can slide his hands in the pockets. Alfred isn’t wearing as many layers, he notices. But he’s so animated and flushed that perhaps he’s warm enough wearing his blue uniform. He certain feels hot. Ivan can feel the warmth of Alfred’s hands radiating through the sleeve of his coat.
“—It just feels rude, you know? It’s the first time we met and you’re so distracted. I’ve been waiting practically my whole li—”
“Do you want to come up?” Ivan interrupts.
Alfred shakes out of his monologue and stares at Ivan with wide eyes. “What?”
“You followed me all the way back to my apartment,” he explains slowly, “Does that mean you want to sleep with me?” Ivan isn’t comfortable asking this exactly, but Alfred is attractive and (probably) not stalking Ivan. Or even if he is, he’s (probably) not violent. Maybe this would get Gilbert and Yao off his back.
Alfred is still looking at him. “Man, your mind is really…something else,” he says. His face blushes to a darker shade of pink, even as his brows draw together in a look of embarrassed determination.
Then, Alfred lunges at Ivan and slams their mouths together. One hand tangles in Ivan’s hair, the other wraps around waist, and their kiss develops into tongue and teeth. It feels sloppy and very drunk. Alfred’s canines are weirdly sharp and they end up nipping Ivan’s lips a couple of times as he tries to slot their mouths correctly. And Ivan would be mortified if it weren’t two in the morning and the street was dead empty.
He should probably be embarrassed anyway. But it’s been a while since anyone wanted him like this—he can’t even remember the last time—so that’s kind of flattering.
They stumble up the stairs. Alfred is hot on Ivan’s back, eager for more kisses, more touches. His body feels like fire, which has a weirdly electrifying effect every time their chests clash. And Ivan has to wrestle one arm free just to unlock his door.
“I really like you,” Alfred pants. “I mean I knew I would, but now I actually do.”
Ivan doesn’t say anything. He didn’t know what to say. After all, he didn’t know Alfred until an hour ago. Do one-night stands require some lying on his part?
He decides to drag Alfred into another kiss and lead him backwards into the bedroom.
“Yes, yes, yes,” Alfred is chanting. His palms grow bolder, roaming underneath Ivan’s sweater, branding everywhere they landed. “You’re so cold. And soft. Is that normal?”
“You’re very loud,” Ivan comments. He isn’t sure if he likes it, but he can feel his pants tightening anyway.
Alfred is bright red. “I get even louder than this,” he admits. “Not sure if I can control myself.”
Ivan wraps his hand around Alfred’s jaw. It earns him a gasp and a flash of wide blue eyes that say Fuck me. Fuck me.
“You’re going to try though, aren’t you?” Ivan asks. He’s never seen anyone look at him the way Alfred is right now. It’s beguiling in a way. Even if it was probably excited by the alcohol in his system. He was probably drinking before they had that shot together, right?
Alfred swallows. “Yeah, yeah. I’m going to—I can be quiet.” Then he’s tearing off his jacket and shirt and throwing them to the ground. His body is all muscle and golden skin, glowing like a star.
Actually…
Ivan’s gaze pinches as he stares at Alfred from head to toe. He’s standing underneath the skylight of the apartment, and the light of the full moon wraps around his torso. He looks stunning. But it also makes Ivan step closer, because he swears he see some sort of texture, or maybe a design covering Alfred’s skin.
“What is this?” he asks, tracing his fingertips over Alfred’s forearm. They look almost like scales, but they don’t feel rough at all. “Tattoos?”
Alfred inhales a breath like he’s appalled. “Of course not!” His warm palms are back on Ivan’s chest, pulling roughly at the sweater. “It’s your turn. Take this off. What is this? Some sort of fur?”
“It’s wool,” Ivan flushes, batting Alfred’s hands away. “I’ll do it.” He gives another suspicious glance at Alfred’s body, but they’re no longer standing under the moonlight and Alfred appears to be a normal, scale-less man. If also, a unnervingly attractive one with too-bright eyes.
It makes Ivan self-conscious. He’s a big man himself, but he’s always been more of a student than an outdoorsman. At least for the past several years. So although he is strong, his body was softer, and so much paler.
Alfred didn’t seem to mind though. “You’re so beautiful,” he breathes when Ivan is freed from his sweater. “Let me see the rest of you.”
Ivan feels a little strange to be with someone so curious about his body. He chocks it up to Alfred’s bizarre crush on him. Not that Ivan minded very much. He was beginning to like the strange attention.
He finished peeling of his pants and socks and immediately, Alfred was palming his groin through the thin fabric of the underwear.
“It’s hard!” Alfred gasps.
“What did you expect after groping me?” Ivan scoffs.
Alfred seems too busy with his ministrations to really care about Ivan’s response. “You’re more sensitive here too. At least we have that in common,” he smiles.
Ivan’s brows knit together. He was starting to get an inkling about Alfred’s odd behavior.
“Alfred...is this your first time sleeping with a man?”
“Yeah, of course!” Alfred laughs, seemingly unfazed. “I wouldn’t get much of a chance where I’m from. That would be shocking to say the least. So, can I pull it out now?”
God, Ivan thinks. Alfred must be from a really conservative family. He supposes that he should have more patience with Alfred then.
“Go ahead,” Ivan says.
Alfred wastes no time in pulling out Ivan’s erection and his face looks even more impossibly excited as he stares at the cock in his hand. It’s red and hard, and Ivan never really thought much about whether it was an attractive penis, but he sure hoped it was at this moment.
“Of course, it’s attractive,” Alfred blurts, as if reading Ivan’s thoughts. “It’s not really as different as I thought it would be either.”
“What were you expecting? Something alien?” Ivan jokes with a small smile.
It has the wrong effect on Alfred though, who stares at him with terror. “Would that be bad?”
Ivan pauses. The conversation was becoming strange again, and he isn’t sure if it was because of Alfred’s inexperience or because Alfred is just odd. Clearly, Alfred is uncomfortable with his body in some way. He’s made no move to undo his pants.
“Let me blow you,” Ivan suggests, thinking it would put Alfred’s mind at ease. “Sit on the bed.” He didn’t think he would be performing oral sex for anyone outside of a relationship. Yet, within ten seconds he was kneeling at the foot of the bed waiting for Alfred to unzip his pants.
Strangely, Alfred’s eagerness seems to wane at about that time.
“Um, I’m not sure if I’m what you’re used to,” he confesses with a nervous smile.
Ivan looks up. “What do you mean?”
“It,” Alfred emphasizes, “might not be up to your expectations.”
“People come in all shapes and sizes,” Ivan assures.
Alfred nods several times in thought. “Yeah, yeah. Well, I guess I count as people, right? Okay, I’ll do it.”
Before Ivan can question the “people” comment, Alfred unfastens his pants and pulls out his cock.
It’s larger than normal, is Ivan’s first thought. Maybe not as big as Ivan’s, but on the larger size. Alfred’s cock is hard, but that’s to be expected, and a darker color than the rest of him.
“It’s normal. You have nothing to worry about,” Ivan says, smiling up at him.
Alfred seems surprised by Ivan’s answer, and his gaze darts to the skylight illuminating the other side of the bed. “Oh, that’s right. Your eyes…” he trails off vaguely.
Ivan gives Alfred’s cock an experimental stroke. Just that made Alfred writhe.
“That feels so good,” Alfred marvels.
“I guess you’re more sensitive than I am then,” Ivan teases, tightening his hand a little over the shaft. “But that’s to be expected if this is your first time.”
“Are you going to use your mouth?” Alfred asks urgently. His hands tangle in the short locks of Ivan’s hair. Blunt nails scrape Ivan’s scalp. Alfred licks his lips. “I don’t want to come before I’ve felt your mouth.”
“You are very young,” Ivan says. He was kind of amused at how much reaction such small caresses got him. Rubbing his thumb over the top of the cockhead nearly made Alfred pull out Ivan’s hair.
“Ivaaaan,” Alfred begs. “Please, just the tip at least. I can’t—I can’t—"
And for some reason the pathetically desperate tone of voice makes Ivan close his lips over Alfred’s cock. It’s hot and thick in his mouth. He doesn’t take it far, just a little more than the tip and sucks.
“Yes, fuck!” Alfred is mewling happily. “Deeper. Please , deeper.”
Ivan isn’t going to do it, but then he’s pulled forward by a firm grip. The erection is filling his throat until it’s all he can think about. He hasn’t done this in a while, and he nearly forgets to breathe through his nose. Then, he’s bobbing his head up and down. Taking the cock in and out of his mouth.
“God, you look so good,” Alfred praises. His eyes are glazed over, watching Ivan as he clumsily sucks his cock.
Ivan doesn’t feel like he looks good at all. He feels whorishly out of character as he tries to give a decent blowjob. Drool is leaking from his mouth and it probably looks disgusting. He’s too tipsy to do a good job, but Alfred is way too overexcited to care apparently.
“More, more,” Alfred chants, jerking his hips up to meet Ivan’s mouth.
Too deep. Ivan doesn’t even know if he can take it. But he does. His eyes sting and he continues sucking and letting the cock slide in and out of his mouth until Alfred releases a strangled moan and comes down his throat.
Ivan is so shocked that he actually swallows it. And the fact that he does it without much trouble makes his body hot with embarrassment.
“That was so good,” Alfred sighs. “You have no idea how long I wanted you to do that.”
Ivan is only able to wipe his mouth before Alfred is leaning forward for a kiss.
It’s repulsive, he thinks. But Alfred clearly doesn’t agree because he’s already thrusting his tongue in Ivan’s mouth.
“It’s not repulsive,” Alfred laughs as he drags Ivan onto the bed with shocking ease. Their legs tangle together, and he seems content when Ivan nearly has his full weight on top of him.
Alfred goes back to caressing Ivan’s body with fiery hands, seeming torn about which body part to touch, but eventually settling for Ivan’s hips.
Ivan is about to lean in for another kiss when he notices something. The light from the ceiling window has shifted, the full moon casting a glow over Alfred’s body. The strange scales were back. Shining under his golden skin like iridescent petals.
Ivan pulls away to get a better look. “You do have tattoos,” he says.
“What?” Alfred’s hands stop.
Exasperated, Ivan pulls Alfred’s arm up and holds it in front of his face. “You’re covered in designs. I can see them again. What are they?”
“Oh,” Alfred shrugs. “It’s just part of my body. I guess you can only see them in moonlight since your vision isn’t as good.”
Ivan gives him a flat look. “You’re wearing glasses. I think my vision is probably much better.”
“Heh, not really,” Alfred grins, pushing the glasses back into place. “These glasses just help me translate, is all. I wouldn’t know how to pick up your language without them.”
“So, they’re smart glasses,” Ivan surmises. He’s heard of it, but he didn’t know a living person who wore them. How bizarre. “And what do you mean it’s part of your body? They look like scales.”
“…I guess you could say they’re scales,” Alfred says after a beat.
Ivan gives him a wry smile. “Humans don’t have scales. So what are they really?”
“Well, I’m not human,” Alfred smirks. “So they really are scales. Actually, on my planet they’re called—”
“What do you mean you’re not human?” Ivan exclaims, eyes widening. He knew Alfred was odd, but was he actually crazy? He shoots up into a sitting position, but Alfred grabs his arm to stop him from leaving.
“No, no, no! I’m not crazy! It’s the truth! I’m not from this planet,” Alfred says quickly. “I’m not even from this solar system. But I am from this galaxy, so we’re kind of like…long-distance neighbors?”
“You’re not an alien,” Ivan declares, giving Alfred a long assessing look. He stares at the flaccid cock that is now also covered in glowing scales. It makes him doubt his resolve, but then he lifts his gaze again. “Aliens don’t look so human.”
“You just said that humans don’t have scales!” Alfred laughs. “Anyway, there are lots of aliens that look like us. There are many theories about that. My brother has one that—”
Ivan covers Alfred’s mouth to stop him from talking. “If you’re an alien,” he begins slowly. “Then why are you here? Why did you come up to me at a—at a bar? Why did you come home with me?”
Alfred removes Ivan’s hand. “I have an answer, but I’m not sure if you’ll understand it.”
“Try me,” Ivan deadpanned.
“Well, you see my antenna here,” Alfred starts, pointing to the wayward cowlick on his head. “My species are telepaths—”
“That’s an antenna?” Ivan grabs the lock of hair curiously and tugs.
“Oh, fuck! No, no, no! Stop!” Alfred gasps in pain.
Ivan quickly lets go of the hair. “Did that hurt? I’m sorry, I wasn’t even holding it that hard.”
“It’s my antenna ! What did you expect?” Alfred defends with watery eyes and pink cheeks.
“Wait, did you say you’re a telepath?” Ivan repeats. He recalls the numerous odd instances throughout their evening where Alfred correctly guessed his thoughts. This fact actually made a lot of sense. And it made Ivan red with embarrassment. “Have you been reading my mind this whole time?”
“It’s not as if I can help it,” Alfred huffs, crossing his arms over his chest. “No one here knows how to protect their minds. And I’m naturally drawn to yours anyway since we’re soulmates. That’s why I came to this planet in the first place. You were never going to find me with such primitive technology, so I thought I would make the first move.”
Ivan is stunned into silence. He isn’t even sure what to react to first. Telepath, soulmate, or the whole mind-attraction thing.
As he’s sitting there, digesting the collapse of his whole world view, Alfred wraps an arm around his shoulders and turns him around to face the skylight.
“Oh, look up there, Ivan!” Alfred says excitedly. He points to the clear part of the sky. “You see those stars over there? Well, near that really pretty blue one—that’s where my planet is. Man, you’re going to love it there.”
Ivan stares at the star, and the moon, and then at Alfred. His voice is still faint with shock when he says: “I can’t believe I met you on Valentine’s Day.”
Alfred tilts his head innocently. “Valentine’s Day? What is that?”
I dunno if you said this or if someone asked this yet or not, but would any of them work in psychology or counseling? More specefically like for the people admitted more mental health support (I hope this makes sense I'm so bad at explaining)
