it’s crazy how idol music has helped change music from something you listen to for enjoyment to something you listen to on repeat on streaming websites so your favorite manufactured personalities can show up higher on the music charts. and i don’t think it’s funny or quirky when kpop stans or whoever else always reply to posts like this with “anyways stream x” because it’s insane to me that we have been turned into such willing actors in the commodification of music for the exlusive benefit of publishing companies that starve and abuse teenagers to the point of suicide. like it’s maddening that the act of making profit for a massive, multi-trillion dollar industry is just seen as a fun fandom that people participate in online for a sense of community. not even enjoying the music - the act of making money for your favorite idols by streaming them is a fandom in and of itself! have some dignity for gods sake

just for reference, since people think it’s unfair to single out kpop as an example in this post: this event was the most formative in developing my opinion of this subject and it’s probably the worst example i can think of.
