take care of you | quinn/brittany
Quinn stepped into the large living room of the farmhouse, her footsteps echoing softly. Beth was cradled in her arms, quietly snuffling as she twisted. She had been a little fussy since she had woken up that morning, and it was beginning to worry Quinn. If Beth got sick, what would she do? Their medical supplies werenāt exactly the equivalent of a doctorās office, and Quinn wasnāt sure she could find one close enough to consider raiding. She would just pray that it was simply a small stomachache and that it would pass soon, but for now, she gently rocked her baby, murmuring nonsense words. Sinking onto the dusty couch, she held Beth close, stroking her fingers gently across her forehead. Beth reached up, pressing her tiny palm against Quinnās chin, causing the blonde to smile. Her fingers dusted across Bethās cheeks, and she began humming softly, rocking gently.Ā
Bethās eyelids began to flutter, and Quinn exhaled with relief. If Beth could fall asleep, there was a chance she would be okay. She wasnāt sure what she would do if anything happened to her. Beth was her one perfect thing - the only thing in life she hadnāt royally screwed up. She had come very close when she had tried getting her back from Shelby, but thanks to Puck and Rachel, Quinn had realized that the older woman could give Beth a better life than Quinn could. Of course, it didnāt matter much now, did it? With Shelby gone and the world falling apart around them, the only thing Quinn could cling to was Beth.
And yet, even as Beth fell asleep in her arms, Quinn couldnāt help but worry about her father. She hadnāt heard or seen anything that would indicate that Puck was alive, and even though Quinn hadnāt had romantic feelings for him in years, she still cared about him. He was her first, after all. It scared Quinn to think that one day, quite possibly soon, she would come face-to-face with him, and he would be lunging for her flesh. Tightening her hold on Beth, she shook her head, attempting to get rid of that thought. She didnāt want to think about it. Suddenly, one of the floorboards creaked, and she jumped, silently cursing herself for not bringing a weapon along. Her eyes flashed toward the staircase, and she began measuring the distance, wondering if she could make it if she sprinted. āWhoās there?ā She hissed, hoping for a reply that didnāt consist of creaking groans or hungry moans.
