STILL ALIVEÂ â JOSHIA
WHO: Josh Evans & Lydia Pierce, mentions of others.
WHAT: Zombie Apocalypse prompt (#2).
WHERE: Their camp.
WHEN: Late afternoon.
DETAILS: Josh is presumed dead and Lydia finds out sheâs pregnant. Weeks later, he finds his way back and they reunite.
JOSH
His face contorted when she said he was on watch and he glanced around as if someone was going to confirm or deny or maybe even explain themselves but heâd been gone for so long he figured a lot had changed since then. That didnât mean he was happy to hear it. âYouâre on watch? Since whenââ he cut himself off when it dawned on him what he was saying and he took a breath. He was usually the one that took watch for the two of them. âRight, yeah. Iâll be quick.â He told her, though he didnât think she minded with how distant she seemed.
His shower was a lot longer than he intended just because he hadnât had a proper one in so long. Heâd only found a lake or two the past couple weeks and even then they werenât the cleanest. He snipped some of his hair and trimmed his beard before slipping into a fresher pair of clothes and heading back out into the night with his knife where he found Lydia posted at the head of the camp. Walking up behind her, he moved to sit behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her to lean back against his chest as he took in her scent. âI could really use a cigarette right now. You donât happen to have one on you, do you?â He teased, though he wasnât really joking and he took her hands in his own, toying with her ring.
LYDIA
Lydia hadnât even thought about the fact that Josh might have thought it weird that she was on watch. It had become the regular now, but as he started to protest it dawned on both of them. On him that he hadnât been here to see her transition, and on her that he wasnât used to her being on watch. She said nothing more on the subject though, just nodded as he headed off in the other direction to get himself cleaned up.Â
She sat, looking out at much of nothing, considering how dark it was by that point. From the way the other guy had made it seem, they had seen Josh get taken down. The thought of it made her sick to her stomach, which went hand in hand with the morning sickness. She had expected to see him as a zombie for seeing him there in the flesh. She jumped when she heard him come up behind her, settling when she saw it was him. She allowed him to wrap his arms around her and while she leaned back against him, she didnât completely settle herself, wanting to be prepared for something wandering their way. âNo, I stopped a little while ago.â She replied, âBut thereâs probably some in the tent.â Her head tilting down when she felt him toy with her ring. The one she hadnât taken off. She sighed, âThereâs something I have to tell you.â
