Josh Evans. 27. The Slacker. This is your captain Josh Evans. You might remember me from that hit TV show The Balboa Triplets as The Slacker. It's been a while but I'm back for the encore. In case you haven't been follow me for the past ten years, I'm currently living in LA. I'm a bodyguard for your favorite bands and shit. Oh, and sometimes I work construction but manual labor can get boring. Just living the good ol' California dream.

Not only have I been working my ass off today, in preparation for this competition tomorrow. But my dads’ left me a voicemail telling me they want to come over to my place for Thanksgiving this year. Well at least they warned me a few weeks in advance right? 

You rarely hear about family calling you up telling you they’re coming for dinner. It usually works the other way around but I guess your dads like taking initiative, huh?

I like voice acting, but I’m kind of getting bored with it. I need something to keep my interest. I still can’t believe that you are a married man. Must be nice settling down with the person you loved since high school. 

How do you get bored of voice acting? What else peaks your interest? Yeah, I can’t believe it either. It’s still surreal to me. Lydia keeps telling me to stop staring at her but I’m just trying to figure out how I ended up with her. I’m one of the lucky ones, I guess.

STILL ALIVE ➝ JOSHIA

WHO: Josh Evans & Lydia Pierce, mentions of others.

WHAT: Zombie Apocalypse prompt (#2).

WHERE: Their camp.

WHEN: Late afternoon.

DETAILS: Josh is presumed dead and Lydia finds out she’s pregnant. Weeks later, he finds his way back and they reunite.

LYDIA

Lydia wanted to know what Josh had been through the past few weeks. He looked as if he had been on the road, but otherwise he looked like he was in one piece. Which was what mattered, in addition to his mind being intact. He hadn’t gone crazy or anything. It was amazing that the once slacker had found the means to thrive so much in this new world.

“I’m actually on watch now.” She gestured back toward the front of the camp. She wasn’t on watch before he left, but she was capable of shooting a gun and she had already knifed her fair share of walkers. “So, yeah, you um.. wash up and get some rest. I’m sure you really need it.”

JOSH

His face contorted when she said he was on watch and he glanced around as if someone was going to confirm or deny or maybe even explain themselves but he’d been gone for so long he figured a lot had changed since then. That didn’t mean he was happy to hear it. “You’re on watch? Since when--” he cut himself off when it dawned on him what he was saying and he took a breath. He was usually the one that took watch for the two of them. “Right, yeah. I’ll be quick.” He told her, though he didn’t think she minded with how distant she seemed.

His shower was a lot longer than he intended just because he hadn’t had a proper one in so long. He’d only found a lake or two the past couple weeks and even then they weren’t the cleanest. He snipped some of his hair and trimmed his beard before slipping into a fresher pair of clothes and heading back out into the night with his knife where he found Lydia posted at the head of the camp. Walking up behind her, he moved to sit behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her to lean back against his chest as he took in her scent. “I could really use a cigarette right now. You don’t happen to have one on you, do you?” He teased, though he wasn’t really joking and he took her hands in his own, toying with her ring.

It would’ve really shown your dedication, though. Patience is one thing, but Jackson rocks it and you two kind of have the same face? It was good, I think I’m going to have to outdo myself next year though, I know some people thought that my costume was kind of a cop-out. 

Yeah, but Jackson and I aren’t one even if we share the same face. We wear different things and even our faces aren’t the same cause he’d never rock a beard. Your costume was kind of a cop out, dude. Step it up next year, Pierce.

LYDIA

Lydia had to become a completely different person when Josh was gone. Now that he was back, she had almost forgotten the version of herself that had been with him. Getting back to that was going to be difficult, especially since she was still processing the fact that he had returned at all. They had made it sound like they knew for sure he was dead. Not that he had been left behind and naturally that made her angry. On the way back, she didn’t say anything. Then again, what was there to say? I’m so happy you’re back, babe, sorry they all lied about what had happened to you, by the way, I’m pregnant.

That was a whole other issue to tackle in itself. As they got back to camp, people were surprised that he was still alive and welcomed him back. Lydia managed a smile, if only because other people seeing him made it more real. She had been spending her nights alone, but that wasn’t to say that someone wasn’t putting the moves on her, after Josh had been gone. Sharing a bed again would be weird. Pausing at the tent, she turned back to him. “Josh, you were gone. I’m sorry, but it’s gonna take me a minute to fully realize that you’re back.” She turned to look at him.

JOSH

Josh was definitely not the same person that he had been since they got split up. It was the first time he’d ever been alone out there and it was hell. Just a few hours ago his life was in another group’s hands and he could only hope that they didn’t find him because he’d be an endangerment to the group. He didn’t know how to act with Lydia. In fact he was having a hard time accepting that she was right there. He’d dream about this moment so many times he was just expecting to wake up at any moment with that awful gut twisting feeling in his stomach.

However, it was hard to ignore that she seemed rather distant herself and he couldn’t help but call her out on it, if only because he expected her to be a lot happier with his return. “Right...” He nodded slowly as he came to a halt in front of the tent. “Yeah, I know. I’m still pretty sure I’m asleep..” He pressed his lips together, glancing off to the side and then back at her as he slipped his hands into his pocket. “I’m gonna go um, I’m gonna go see if I can get into the RV and wash up. I’ll see you in a bit?” He asked, tilting his head as he eyed her carefully.

I tried. Eh…. I don’t think with my clothing aesthetic and style a beard would look good. I’m also not into hipster fashion. Plus it takes forever for me to grow stubble! I don’t know how you do it. Ever think about getting some?

Really? I think your long hair makes you look like a hipster whether you like it or not. I rubbed a shiny lamp once and the next morning I had a full beard before I even hit puberty. Yeah, I’ve thought about it but I haven’t really thought of anything I’d want to have on my body for the rest of my life.
