Come May, they knew they would only be getting busier. The finals were coming up, they were getting obnoxiously preoccupied– Sam couldn’t remember the last time she felt that overwhelmed. Not willing to admit this, she was still pushing heavily through all of her activities, even when advised to drop some for the sake of her own rest. She wasn’t that person, unfortunately, and she refused to believe that one exam term would defeat her, of all people. Simultaneously, that also meant less time for Andrew. In fact, it worked both ways: he had less time for her, too. They had some sort of a mutual understanding regarding this and they had no issues in communicating their schedules even when it meant less time together. She hated it, she was pretty sure he hated it, too, but they could only really have 24 hours in a single day and there wasn’t much they could’ve done about it. She took comfort in the fact that it wasn’t just one of them while the other waited, it was both, and that made things somewhat better.
She put the keys into the lock of Andrew’s front door a little lazily as she turned it, clicked it open and pushed the door forward. She was intensely tired– they had many new activities back at the Gamma house that needed checking first, before they were approved for the upcoming year. It was still a whole summer and a bit away, but the preparations needed to be done that early. Then, she took one of her finals, and then had a meeting with the social chair of the Delta Chis– which was a whole other level of boring. They were preparing the final touches for the Fraternity Sweetheart Choice, which would make another sister their sweetheart in the following year. They had already narrowed their choice down to the Zetas and Gammas, but come on, they all knew they would yet again, choose another Zeta. It was an unwritten rule– Deltas went with Zetas, while Gammas went with Lambdas.
She didn’t even have any time for a lunch break because she squeezed an appointment with one of her regulars at the Tutor center who begged her for a session before their finals. She couldn’t just say no for the sake of her, sometimes she was way too generous but still couldn’t opt to be selfish instead. So when she entered the apartment, she was as good as dead, as it seemed. She dropped her backpack on the counter near the front door, kicked her flats off her feet and plopped down on the couch with a heavy sigh. ‘’Mhmm, that’s nice,’’ She said, barely really acknowledging the excitement in Andrew’s tone of voice. If she wasn’t such a perfectionist, she probably would’ve slept on the sofa– no shower, and in clothes.
If there was one thing Andrew could count on after being so far away from Sam due to their busy schedules, was that the two wouldn’t hesitate in wasting time when it came on being together any minute they could. So, as soon as he heard her stepping into the apartment, he expected her to be by her side seconds after she entered the room, which didn’t happen at all. Instead, he was meet with a vague response from her from a few feet away, which instantly indicated something was up, or at least wrong. Frowning, the male finished up what he was doing, making sure the sauce and everything else would still be okay by the time he came back.
“You know...if I didn’t knew you all that much as I do, I would say you are not excited about being in my presence as much as I hoped you would.” Andrew spoke, teasingly as he exited the kitchen wiping his hands on a washcloth, silly smirk on his face as he stopped by the kitchen door, landing his eyes on Sam for the first time. As soon as he saw her laying on the couch looking completely worn out, his featured softened up and he understood. “Long day?” His voice was soft and understanding as he made the few feet towards her, sitting on the empty space next to her, arm instantly coming to rest over her shoulder as he pulled her body closer, happy to feel her weight and warmth against him after so long. “Want me to run a bath for you?” All plans for their night long forgotten as he understood exactly what she needed in that particular moment.
