A little corner of the internet focusing on the fixations of an introvert.
Main niches: Bleach, Pokemon, Zelda, and Transformers. Other topics/interests will show up on occasion.
For the second part of the series, I will be going over Kiala, a Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword oc that I'm in the process of rebranding.
I'll admit, this character rewrite is rather limited. I only recently decided to rebrand her because I felt that she would fit into a story I'm working on. So while I have started planning, I'm still in the early development stages.
Who Was Kiala?
Similar to how some characters are ancestors to others, I created Kiala as the inspiration for Sheik. She initially grew up on Skyloft, was friends with Link, and was the daughter of Owlan, one of the instructors. She also had a crush on Pipit.
She fell beneath the clouds prior to the events of Skywards Sword after she snuck out to practice flying at night and was taken in by (young) Impa, who later trained her. She would later be reunited with Link and Zelda during the events of the game and would have ended up falling for Groose after finding out about Pipit and Karane got together.
I think I even had Ghirahim taking an interest in her at one point. I believe so that he could make her a loyal ally and assassin, but I'll admit I was probably tacking on too many important roles to her. It's probably also the reason I never really did much with and lost interest in her.
The Spiritual Successor
I don't plan on keeping the name, since I want to give the character as blank of a slate as possible. However, I don't have a name currently chosen for the character (I could go with Kiara, which was one of the names I thought of giving her). She's in pretty early development as of this post.
What I do know is that she will team up with and befriends Naila, my other Zelda oc inspired character. She would also be an artificer/weapons specialist since I was thinking of retaining the Sheik/Sheikah roots and having her specialty being throwing weapons (knives, darts, bombs, etc) and will also the blonde hair, red eyes combo.
She's a work in process who needs a backstory. And while I am still working on it, I don't plan throwing everything but the kitchen sink at her to see what sticks. I am, however, contemplating if she'll stay just friends with Nala, or if the two will get together. That'll be a bridge to cross when I get there.
For now, though, I leave you with the second installment of this mini series. The next and final part will be over Naila.
OC Rebrand #1 Shakira: A Naruto OC Whose Elements Snaked Their Way to Aster
While I wasnāt the biggest OC creator during my teen years, I did have a few OCs I created over the years. Two Legend of Zelda characters and two Naruto OCs with a third that was conceptualized, but never got executed.
They may have gone, for the most part, forgotten, but Iāve recently been trying to fin ways to rework at least three of them in some capacity. This is one of them. While only a few aspects of this character was reworked into another character, this feels like the perfect this mini series.
Who Was Shakira?
Shakira was one of my Naruto OCs. She was initially created to be Orochimaruās adopted daughter, and, along with the other two Naruto OCs I had planned, was meant to be a sort of gender bent version of the Sanin. Their names also started with S, because it just kind of worked at the time.
Shakira was abandoned by her parents, members of the Mist and Sand Villages, due to using a forbidden jutsu, and would later be adopted by Orochimaru. She would also have a crush on Kabuto that she would eventually grow out of, and for a time would have a vendetta against Sasuke for killing her father figure, but would grow to accept what happened.
As far as her abilities, she had ice abilities as well as some wind and water jutsus due to her parentage. If I recall correctly, she could also summon snakes thanks to her training with Orochimaru.
It was simple, if maybe a bit basic and/or cliche. She was the most developed of the three, most likely due to the fact that Orochimaru used to be my favorite villains. However, she would be abandoned as I loss interest in and moved on from Naruto.
Over the last year, I looked back at her nostalgically. Not wanting to let her go completely by the wayside, I found a was to rework a few elements of her character into another character I have b even constructing.
Aster: A Herpetologist With an Affinity for Snakes
Aster, initially named Asteraceae because it was the name of the family dahlias are a part of, was a character who I ended up concocting alongside another character. Sheās an Irish-Brazilian American whoās a herpetologist (someone who studies reptiles) that specializes in snakes. The adopted daughter of a botanist.
She was born and raised in Florida, where she would develop an interest in reptiles because of the ecology around her. She would also have some knowledge in botany thanks to her adopted father. Years later, she would work at a reptile sanctuary and conservatory in Arizona. She would end up working with and befriending an engineer who was tasked with creating new enclosures at her sanctuary.
What Did Aster Inherit From Shakira?
The main things she inherited from Shakira was the affinity with snakes and the fact that she was adopted. Though in the case of the latter, it wasnāt because she was disowned/kicked out. Rather, her parents died in an accident and was taken in by a close family friend. They would also move to Louisiana due to job opportunities.
As for the snake specialty, it ended up coming up when I was plotting out her career. I wasnāt initially sure what I wanted her to be, so while I was looking back at Shakira, I ended up deciding herpetology with a specialty in snakes. Aster also has a pet snake named Orochi, which is the name of an eight headed serpent from Japanese folklore, and is part of the inspiration for Orochimaru (the other being the character of the same name from the Tales of Jiraya story).
I hope you enjoyed this little bit of character history and rework. Feel free to share your thoughts.
Arrancar Encyclopedia: Today's Lesson is On Favorites
Similar to the Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book segments, The Arrancar Encyclopedia was a series of omake (bonus shorts/stories) that played at the end of episodes. Spanning between episodes 125 and 307, these forty shorts were both entertaining and informative as Gin Ichimaru breaks down particular concepts throughout the Arrancar/Fake Karakura Town arc. Sometimes even pointing out fillerā¦
Flowers and apologies. Some flowers can be given as a form of apology or sympathy. Izuruās Zanpakuto, Wabisuke is also known as āapology/to apologizeā. However, one thing that you might not know is that his Zanpakuto also gets its name from a flower.
As such, I thought I it would be fun to go over three interconnecting facts about Wabisuke. What the flower is, how it relates to the shape and useā¦
What is Hopefully Destructive Shinigami Tales?
While doing some soul searching for blog topics, a mix of introspection and a burst of renewed interest brought me back to this series. Iāve been following the series since I was in high school, oh so many years ago, and its a series that Iāve returned to over the course of at least a decade and a half. And, out of the Big Three, it is the one Iā¦
Izuru Kira: A Reflection and the Reason I Got into Bleach
Sometimes, all it takes is a character.
Iāve had a few instances where a character got me into a series. Haru, who appeared on the eight cover of Fruits Basket, was an example of this. as was G1 Starscream thanks to his appearance in You Can Draw Transformers.
If thereās one instance that has stuck with me, and one that Iāve been finding myself reflecting on lately, it has to be Izuru Kira.ā¦
Every Rose Has it's Izuru: Ways That Izuru and Rojuro "Rose" Otoribashi's Dynamic Could have Been Explored
I am a bit of a sucker for Squad 3. Iād also like to see more of Izuruās relationships with his captains. Finally finishing the anime and starting Thousand Year Blood War, I realize we donāt really get to see what kind of dynamic Izuru has with Rose. Rose was one of three Vizards who (re)claimed the title of captain, taking over for Gin who replaced him after the incident that turned the Vizardsā¦
