A lot of the most toxic people I’ve come across arnt the “cold feelingless” types. Most people I’ve known who are lower empathy have been tactless or apathetic at worst rather then ever actively malicious.

The toxic people I’ve met have been hyper-conscious about what other people think about them. They pick up emotions fine, great even, but give no shits about other people’s experiences if it has no relations to their current feelings, and if it does relate to their feelings you better fucking hope it’s in 100% agreement with them. They have always been the folks most up to “punishing” people who make them “feel bad”. If you ever make them feel GUILTY for their actions it’s somehow on you and your the REAL ASSHOLE for making them feel bad about something they did.

You can give so much energy to someone, look past their faults, listen to their problems, defend them, keeping giving them chances, tip-toe around their feelings and live in fear of upsetting them but when they finally really, really hurt you, you can’t take anymore and you react to that hurt with anything but immediate forgiveness and sweetness, you’re the bad guy forever.
