✯ Maya grabbed her cellphone and took some sick selfies from the duo. That’ll definitely go to her Twitter later! Phoenix’d better managed to make an account with the instructions she left him before she went out. Even he can’t be that much a disaster techno wise, right?

✯ “Uhum! You, know, I don’t think I know what your favorite food is yet, Maby-pie.” Looks like Maya has found a perfect nickname for Mabel, huh? At the other’s reply to the problem, Maya clapped her hands in delight.

✯ “Brilliant, my girl! Just as expected from a fabulous girl like you, hehehehe!!” Maya looked around the street, searching for a place that fitted such a description.

✯ “Fancy restaurant, fancy restau- Aha, look, Maby-pie! ‘Chateau de la Viende’. Ummm, I wonder what they specialize at. Wanna check this one?”

Mabel couldn’t help but make silly faces, as well as cool poses, in the photos. The two of them would go through them later and pick out the best ones to share!

She grinned, “It’s dessert!”

Mabel’s enthusiastic body language followed Maya’s as the two strolled down the sidewalk. Her eyes followed the older’s, and Mabel peered with delight at the restaurant Maya pointed out to her.

“Wow! It looks super fancy-shmancy! We gotta check it out!”

✯ Maya was still a bit bummed over how abruptly she’d been woken up from her wonderful dream. Just a few more minutes and she could have gotten to kiss Beatrice! How many people don’t dream of doing that?

✯ However, she was unable of keeping a frown on her face when Mabel greeted her like that. Oh yeah, she was being produced, wasn’t she? Maya ran to look at a mirror to admire herself and was quite impressed by the result.

✯ “U-la-la, I look like a diva!” She spun and let her hair flow through her fingers. It felt so soft and shining now. “You also look amazing, Mabel! Come on, show those rainbow nails to me!”

✯ With the salon job done, it was time for their next stop: Food! You can’t expect going out with Maya wouldn’t include that at some point. “So, any place you’d like to recommend for our sustenance, Maby-pie?”

Mabel quickly and eagerly followed Maya to the mirror, the two of them inevitably posing and making silly faces. Other patrons stared at the enthusiastic pair, but who cared? They were having a ball, and that was all that mattered! 

Mabel twirled, too, laughing as she debuted her make over to Maya. “Look how sparkly they are!”

As they paid and left, Mabel couldn’t help but strut as she walked, until Maya posed a very important question to her. What should they get to eat? What an excellent question!

“-- Gosh! Well, we’ve got to go somewhere that we both can get something we like...” She paused, seriously contemplating this dilemma. “Oh! We should go to a fancy buffet!”

✯ Man, who could imagine how good it feels having your scalp massaged by soap coated fingers? It’s no wonder that Maya quickly dozes off, her mind already escaping to fantasy land…

✯ “Yum! Who’d have thought that burgers and tea sat this well with each other?” Maya hummed to herself before going back to stuffing her face with the goods. Her snack companion laughed heartily at that comment.

✯ “Why shouldn’t it, Miss Maya? I pride myself in offering only the best to my guests. I usually offer cookies alongside tea, but knowing your tastes, I supposed some variation would be more fitting.” The Golden Witch Beatrice, the person Maya currently has a crush for, replied.

✯ “Hehehe, variation is good. It’s one of those things that avoid boredom for you witches, isn’t it, Miss Beatrice?”

✯ “Kyahahaha, exactly! For a human, you sure get how things are rather quickly. I really like that about you.”

✯ At that remark, Maya could feel her cheeks blush. Okay, it was now or never. Today would be the day where she’d finally confess her feelings for the other. She could do this, she would!

✯ “Er, Miss Beatrice…” She started fidgeting her fingers. “T-There’s something I want to tell you…”

✯ “Hoh? What’s it? Come on, come on, don’t leave me waiting like this!”

✯ “W-Well…. You see, I-”

✯ “Ding dong, all ready, sleeping beauty!” The salon worker shook Maya all of a sudden, waking her up from her dream. Awwww, just when it was about to get to the good part!

As Mabel sat in front of the salon’s nail dryer, thinking about how she could get one of these in her own room, the preteen heard someone wake up Maya. She resisted a snicker, considering how cute it was that the older girl had fallen into such a deep sleep while everything was going on. Then again, wouldn’t it be nice to fall asleep, only to wake up even more glamorous?

Was that what people meant by ‘beauty sleep’? Mabel pondered on it for a few seconds as she put on her sandals. Her fingers and toes dazzled with a myriad of colors, and Mabel had to pull herself away with admiring them. She reached in to her purse on her way to Maya, and made sure to give the woman who had done her nails a big tip. She’d totally come here again.

Smiling, Mabel offered her hand to Maya, “G’morning, sleepy head!”

The brunette laughed, but grinned as she admired Maya’s makeover.

“You look fantastic!”

The worn plastic sheath of Nick’s face crinkled into a smile as he listened to the girl rattle on the Mystery Shack’s many oddities, curios and documented phenomena. Sure, the kid had to work on her salesmanship a little bit, but she certainly had the pep for that line of work. That more than made up for whatever faults she had in her presentation.

(Her lung capacity was impressive as well. Nick would have certainly nominated her for any appropriate awards, if they existed.)

“I don’t think anyone could resist that sales pitch, kid.” He surely couldn’t. “First all, where’s this Mystery Shack of yours?”

She only took a brief breather, and was about to begin talking about even more of the attractions the Mystery Shack had when Nick beat her to the metaphorical punch. Even if she’d been interrupted, Mabel was thrilled that he’d asked a question! No one else had let her get this far!

“It’s just on the border of Sector Six! You really can’t miss it, we’ve got a big sign and everything!”

It was true, since the sign was decorated with all sorts of lights. That was as far as Dipper had let her go, since she wanted it to be fully neon. He’d thought better, so as to not cause a forest fire should there be an accident.

“Yo, Dipper! How many flowers do you think I can put in my hair before they start falling out?”

Both her hair and attire were already coated in flowers, far too many to count; it would make one wonder how she had done it, on top of how she would supposedly fit more on. Yet, if there was one thing that Mabel Pines was, it was determined.

✯ “Of course! The ultimate color combo that can fit with everything, yet can combine with nothing if you aren’t careful enough. It’s the mark of a true fashion professional.” Or of a very indecisive person, but Maya wasn’t the type to think of the bad possibilities, especially not towards someone as fashionable as Mabel.

✯ “As for me, I’ll go with this light orange nail polish full of glitter. You can’t go wrong with orange or yellow and purple.” Maya nodded to herself and went to sit on her designed chair. “Same for my toenails. It’s been so long since I took care of them at all. We’ll become even more fabulous than what we already are, Mabel, hihihi!!”

✯ It’s a pretty comfy chair that allows the medium to rest her head and doze off as her nails are done. And her hair too! Salons are getting more and more sophisticated as years go by.

Mabel nodded seriously; she knew all about matching colors, and how important it was. A rainbow palette could be her worst enemy or her best friend, if she knew what she was doing.

But, of course Mabel Pines knew what to do!

“That’s a cute color, too!”

Finally narrowing it down to exactly ten colors, Mabel followed Maya to the seat next to the other’s, eager to get started. As her nails were painted in careful, colorful fashion, Mabel couldn’t help but giggle at Maya. As the other dozed, the younger girl energetically chatted with everyone and anyone around her. 

Once her nails were finished, Mabel thought about waking up Maya, but decided against it; she just looked so peaceful! She’d just wait until their nails were dry.

    When they first wandered into this world, Dipper couldn’t have been any more thrilled. Being sent off on a trip around the world to collect monsters and fight them? It was like a knockoff of his favorite video game, only real, so it was bound to be even better.

    Though, video games don’t really account for the real-life dangers of getting literally mauled by wild animals. 

    A bit of quick thinking on his feet and Dipper motions to a small inlet in the cave wall, just small enough for the two of them (and barely Mabel’s Audino) to squeeze into. It was enough to shield them for the time being, but there was no doubt that they would be swarmed again if they emerged without a proper plan.

    “I don’t think we can fight that many of them at once,” he whispers to his sister, batting an intrusive yellow curl out from under his nose.

It wasn’t until the two -- three -- of them were crammed in the tight inlet that Mabel realized it was better to keep her Audino away. Luckily, the sound and light of the pokemon returning to their pokeball didn’t attract any more unwanted attention. After she did, Mabel let out a sigh as she leaned forward, her shoulder touching that of her twin.

“I’m sorry Dipper, I thought this was all so cool and that we could handle anything,” she paused, looking at the cave floor that they sat on.

She’d gotten far too ahead of herself, and she knew it. Yet, after a moment of pouting, Mabel decided that there was no time for such negative emotions! She forced herself to perk back up, and looked at Dipper once more.

“What should we do now?”

A shame her internal pick-me-up had no room for thinking up a course of action; that detail she’d give to Dipper.

Nick took the flier from the girl’s hand, flipping it over in order to. He honestly couldn’t recall the last time he’d met anyone who was so… bubbly. It was good thing–meeting a bubbly person, especially a kid. It reminded him that the rest of the multiverse had places where kids could still be kids.

“It’s good to see the youth of today taking the initiative.” Nick nodded approvingly. “By the looks of it, it’s a…” He didn’t want to say tourist trap. “You, uh, show curios and the like, yes? Already sounds pretty interesting. Pardon me for parroting you, but why don’t you tell me about it?”

Mabel stood, fliers in hand, beaming with pride. Truthfully, she’d hardly had any interest since she started, but Nick was the first person to stop this long to listen to her. She was reasonably eager to answer every question, even if he didn’t ask any at all.

“The Mystery Shack showcases all oddities and fantastical objects and people -- if you can think it, we probably have it!” After the rehearsed, but enthusiastic, intro was over, Mabel launched into a spiel of descriptions and summaries of all the wonderful things the Shack had to offer; had she not needed to stop periodically to breathe, it could have been one of the world’s longest run on sentences.

✯ “And some trimming of broken points, please. It’s been so long since I gave my poor hair the attention it deserves.” She caresses her long mane for a bit before getting to see the nail polish Mabel was pointing to.

✯ “Wow, such beautiful possibilities!! I think that watermelon green would be great on you, Mabel, especially if you went with a pink sweater! That baby blue one would be fabulous with your orange one!” Maya is a fan of opposite colors, it seems. Or at least it thinks they fit Mabel well, for she usually tends to go with variations of purple and amber to herself.

✯ “Ohhhhh, I want the glittered one in my nails! I bet I could blind a pooper poo with these if I aim it just right, like in that movie we saw last night. Hehehehe, it’d be amazing!”

✯ The clerk felt a bit embarassed that the two girls were so enthralled by the options that they seemed forgot to actually sit on their chairs, but hey, there’s no line yet, so they aren’t in such a hurry.

Mabel hadn’t even thought about her hair ,but was already too engulfed in the color options to back track; the color choosing process was the most important part of getting one’s nails done! ... Other than the end result, of course. Her hair was fine anyway, she’d been cutting and styling it (and for a time, Dipper’s as well) since she was six!

Mabel had a critical eye for all things even pertaining to color coordination, but she listened carefully to Maya’s suggestion. She was a fan of matching, opposite colors, too, but to try and think what sweater to match her nail polish with... There was no way she could do that! She had way too many sweaters!

There was only one possible solution.

“I know just what to pick,” Mabel grabbed over a dozen different colors, all glittery and full of pizzazz, “I’ll do a rainbow!”

She sounded as if that should have been the obvious choice from the beginning. Mabel turned on her heel to stare right at Maya, curious to see what her choice would be.

✯ “If they don’t, then what are they even doing working here? Oh, look, I think that one is perfect!”

✯ Maya pointed out to a salon called Chic Boutique (which actually sounds more like a perfume shop, but eh), a small, yet pretty place with a lilac entrance. It just appeals to Maya’s aesthetic, you know?

✯ She went ahead and opened the door, getting a look of the salon’s interior. The place wasn’t quite full yet, but there was a decent amount of movement. It was wise of them to decide coming to a salon first, for had they waited one hour later to come, they’d probably get a monstrous line.

✯ “Welcome to Chic Boutique, house of the simple beauty!” One of the workers approached and greeted them. “How may I help you today?”

Mabel agreed wholeheartedly, and was just as enamored with the salon as Maya was; it was super cute, both inside and out! The two of them strut inside, and Mabel was already ahead of the clerk behind the counter.

... Or, maybe it was closer to one step, as she had to stand on the tips of her toes in order to peer over the counter in question. But, that was hardly enough to stop the fabulous Mabel Pines!

“Two full manicures and pedicures, please!” Even with the amount of people in the salon, they were fine with just a walk-in. It really was a good thing they’d come in early!

As the polite clerk nodded and left to set the two of them up, Mabel was already perusing the available nail polish; she beckoned Maya over, her mind buzzing with color coordination possibilities.

✯ “That’s what I wanted to hear! Put your cool sunglasses and follow me, my shopping partner. Today… we’re gonna rock.”

✯ Maya threw her hair behind like in a shampoo commercial and started walking down the street. Two fabulous girls like Mabel and her couldn’t simply spend all of their money in plebian places. They have the right of going to the best places today.

✯ (Except that her Kurain money sparing instincts tell her not to actually go to the true most expensives shops, lest she’ll spend her whole reward in a single place. Their goal is a cheap, yet good quality place.)

✯ “Ummmm… Why don’t we start by doing our hair and nails? We can’t break the bank if we don’t look ready to kill with glamour, you know?”

Cool sunglasses? Check. Rockin’ attitude? Double check. Two awesome chicks with a load of cash to spend? Triple check. Time to get this party started.

Mabel kept up with Maya’s stride perfectly, the two of them strutting down the side walk as if they truly were in a commercial. After all, they were just the pinnacle of amazing, right?

Right. They were divine. But, of course, that didn’t mean they couldn’t even more glamorous!

“Oooooh yeah! I haven’t gotten my nails done in forever!” There were no nail salons in Gravity Falls, or at least none she’d been able to find. “Think they have a good selection of glitter polish?”

✯ Ever since she won that eating contest months ago, Maya has been 1000 dollars richer. She hasn’t had a chance to spend it properly, though, that with all the things she’s experienced the past few months, like Phoenix coming to Hive City or all the events that befell the city.

✯ That, however, ends today! It’s been too long ever since she got a chance of being a big spender, so here she is, at a rather cheap mall at Sector 5. It’s just her, her money and her crime partner, Mabel Pines.

✯ “This might be the most dangerous mission we’ve ever faced together, Mabel. Are you ready to completely destroy your savings today?”

Mabel was all too eager to heed Maya’s call for a shopping spree; she wasn’t sure how Maya had been able to go so long without spending her prize money from her victory. The memory of which was still in the girl’s mind, since it had been so exciting -- Mabel and Maya didn’t stop talking about it to everyone at the Shack for weeks!

-- But, that just made the prospect of spending it all that much more fun!

It was a good thing Mabel had plenty of her own money to spare.

“Heck yeah! I was born ready!”

It was only a matter of where to start.

✯ Maya’s amount of stomachs is the biggest unsolved mystery in Ace Attorney, right on par with Apollo’s father or whether Larry will ever find a woman for him or not. All that we know is that she must have an special area just to digest burgers.

✯ Being bigger than Mabel, Maya can take her from the floor in excitement and snuggle their cheeks together. That might be not that good an idea, considering that both her mouth and hands are greasy from all the burgers she’s held today, but she doesn’t care for hygiene right now, happy as she is.

✯ “The Mystery Shack’s honor is saved once again, ahahahaha!!” She boasted while the restaurant’s crew offered her a trophy and the prize check. Hehehe, now she’d have how to gloat about it for everyone at the office!

✯ Then… She felt her belly ache. Not a surprise. Now that the eating festival is over, her body is finally managing to overcome her excitement to signal her about the stress she’s brought to it.

✯ “Welp… I was here thinking that we could go out and buy some milkshakes to celebrate… but I don’t think it’s gonna roll. You up to go home, Mabel?”

Mabel didn’t even consider the grease, if she even noticed it; she was a messy girl herself, anyway, always covered with varying art supplies. She was used to it, so a little grease was nothing.

She was hooping and hollering all around, ecstatic as the energy in the whole diner; how could she not be excited? Maya had won, not only for her own glory, but for the Mystery Shack’s too! It was wonderful, it was all so much fun!

Only when her feet hit the floor did she let out a breath -- her hands were still interwoven with Maya’s, and she was still beaming, but Mabel was now a bit more relaxed. Go home? Well, sure! They could stroll right into the Mystery Shack and tell everyone about Maya’s fantastic victory!

“Yeah, let’s blow this popsicle stand!” She made finger guns at everyone, and then she and Maya were off.

Nick had walked out of a hardware store with a new set of hand tools under his arm when his gaze was caught by a young girl in a… very pink sweater. A young girl in a very pink sweater with binoculars. Nick would’ve thought more of that last part, but she seemed to be at the age when monkeying around like that was the norm.

“Oh, hey there, kiddo!” Nick was pleasantly surprised that a child was approaching him. Well, she was sitting down, but most kids thought he was there to snatch them up and take them to the Institute.

He approached her calmly, stopping to lean against a nearby lamppost. There was still a bit of distance between them–though she showed no fear, Nick didn’t want to push his luck.

“No, I can’t say I have.” He indicated the flier in her hand with his own. “Mind if I take a look?”

Mabel had seen all sorts of things, both in this city and outside of it, so she wasn’t one to judge when she got a better look at the man’s face. If anything, it only affirmed her prior assessment.

He looked like he had a good enough attitude to boot, too!

She practically skipped over to Nick with a flier in her hand, the rest of the stack in her other hand; she held no fear at looking at his appearance, and was as friendly as ever.

“Absolutely! I can tell you everything you want to know about it -- ‘cause, I’m the co-owner,” she puffed out her chest with a sense of pride. Why wouldn’t she be proud? She’d worked very hard, after all.

“ -- Of course we should go in, Dipper, who knows what great stuff we’ll find?!” Her words had been convincing enough, for sure, as were her arrogant strut. Pokeballs in hand and on their waists, the twins could conquer any dark looking cave together!

.... Or, so it would seem; only after around fifteen minutes of walking around like she owned the place, Mabel disturbed a large family of Zubats with her Audino’s use of FLASH. Zubats, it would seem, did not discriminate against twins, and both the Pines were immediate targets.

Cue the screaming of two preteen twins and their Pokemon.

✯ Maya giggled at hearing her friend’s support from the table. Mabel is just too adorable, with all of that energy and disposition to appreciate the best things in life. They even have similar thoughts of wearing pom poms and cheerleader outfits! (Maya wanted to use those at Phoenix’s trial against Redd White, long long ago.)

✯“Thank you, Mabel! I’ll win this this for you and the Mystery Shack, just you watch!!” She waved at the younger girl, then turned back to look at the Grand Burger before her. It was a hard challenge, especially considering all the burgers she’s already eaten so far. But! She can’t give up now! It’s a question of honor, of showing who’s the Burger Queen of Hive City!

✯Time to start the final duel! Maya jumps down at her target the same time as Eathan does. They don’t look like humans anymore, more seeming two ogres devouring their defenseless prey without an inch of mercy. People’s breath stop constantly whenever one of them slows down for a bit, perhaps showing signals of saciety, only relaxing when they jump back into their attack.

✯ The fight extends for more than 10 minutes, both of them having gotten past half of their respective Grand Burgers. At first, it seems like they might both manage to eat it whole, but then…

✯“Brrrrr…. *BLERGH!!!!!!*” Eathan Lotte can’t stand the pressure anymore and ends up throwing up on the floor, pretty much putting all the burgers he’s eaten all day long to the outside. That means…

✯“Well, well, looks like this match is set.” The announcer says. “The winner of this year’s Pink Burger’s Annual Eat-All-You-Can Constest is…”

✯“MAYA FEEEEEEEEEY!!!!!” That’s right, folks! After an spetacular culinary battle, our favorite medium has finally claimed her title and prize! 1000 dollars to her account, baby!

✯“I DID IT!! Or rather, we did it, Mabel!” Maya rushes to hug the otehr girl. “We’re the best!”

“You can do it!” Mabel readily cheered, fully believing that anyone could do just about anything they put their mind to; and this was undoubtedly one of those moments! Maya could handle anything, even a giant burger!

The girl’s admiration, and all around awe at such feats, only seemed to explode as Maya persevered. Truly, she was astonished on how much the other could eat; just where did she put it all? Was Maya some sort of super human with more than one stomach? Now that’d be something she’d see in Gravity Falls... 

And still, Maya never slowed down! Mabel now watched in a hushed silence, her eyes darting between Maya and her competitor. She knew Maya would win, but the pressure, the tension, it was all so incredibly intense! As the minutes passed, Mabel’s own enthusiasm returned, until she was pounding her small fists on the table in a chant of Maya’s name, and then --

-- Never had Mabel Pines been so happy to see someone barf.

By then she was jumping up and down, hooping and hollering as Maya was announced as the winner. She knew that Maya could do it, and so it had been done! She grasped onto the other as they hugged, and felt herself be swung around and around in glee.

“We did it! We did it!”

Scoping out the prospective victims customers of the Mystery Shack had always been a split job between the twins; Dipper was lowkey while Mabel was... Enthusiastic. Hence why she sat at a cafe table, a fruity tea and stacks of fliers at her side, staring at some of Sector 5′s best residents as they roamed the streets. The binoculars weren’t necessary, but the preteen would’ve argued otherwise.

She was a peculiar sight, and it was no wonder that she’d seek out others; especially those that happened to be only a few feet away. 

“Heyyyyyyy!” From her seat, she waved at the detective, clearly trying to catch his eye.

“You look like the prefect sorta guy for the Mystery Shack! Ever heard of it?” She paused to wave a flier in the air. “C’mon, c’moooon!”
