You’re right. I feel a need to rectify this mistake. As such, for the setting where the readers know nothing about AFO and Izuku notes how he used to be quirkless, the chatter would naturally be a bit different from the above:
How the heck did Izuku get a quirk if he was quirkless? What, did some magic quirk fairy suddenly pop up and gave him a quirk? How does it work?!
WHAT IF HE STILL DOESN’T ACTUALLY HAVE A QUIRK? HE’S FRIENDS WITH HATSUME MEI, AFTER ALL. WHAT IF HE USES TECH UNDERNEATH HIS SUIT, BUT IT’S NOT STABLE, YET? MEI COULD BE HIS PARTNER IN THIS, HELPING HIM UPDATE HIS TECH TO TRY TO MAKE IT MORE STABLE.
But that doesn’t explain the All Might connection. As far as we can tell, there’s no reason for All Might to be his mentor. And what about the skeleton guy?
What if he’s All Might’s kid, but he was born quirkless? He wants to live up to his dad’s legacy, so that’s why he uses the experimental tech. He’s always nervous around All Might because he wants him to be proud of him!
MAYBE THAT’S WHAT DEKU’S NOTEBOOKS ARE FOR. DEKU COULD BE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT QUIRKS TO COPY WITH HIS OWN TECH.
guys. what if it’s not that he’s copying quirks? what if he unintentionally developed tech that can borrow someone’s quirk? he could be swiping all might’s ability, which would explain the . he might not even know that he’s doing it now. that could explain the skeleton man who shows up in all might’s clothes. he could be unintentionally taking people’s quirks for short periods of time.
YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT DEKU KEEPING NOTEBOOKS ON THE QUIRKS OF OTHER PEOPLE AND HAVING TECH THAT CAN TEMPORARILY STEAL QUIRKS ARE BOTH COINCIDENTAL? HE HAS TO KNOW THAT HE’S TAKING THE QUIRKS WHEN HE USES THEM. HE’S APPARENTLY GOT A STRATEGIC MIND, SINCE HE ONLY SEEMS TO TAKE IT WHEN HE’S ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT HE ISN’T GOING TO INCONVENIENCE ALL MIGHT TOO BADLY.
What if Deku is a plant by the League of Villains?
holy crud. that fits really well. his “hero: name essentially means “one who cannot do anything.” doesn’t that sound more like the name a villain would give himself to you? his taking all might’s power is because he’s getting cocky. all might feels it just before it comes, so he runs off before it happens, and he becomes the skeleton man. he doesn’t actually know that it’s deku, but he’s beginning to suspect, which is why deku’s kinda nervous around him.
Deku can’t be a villain! He’s too small and innocent!

how about a compromise? what if he was a villain, but he got reformed? that way, he does have a villainous past, but all might took him under his wing? he’d implanted his quirk-stealing tech when he was younger, so it’s gotten outdated and became permanently glitched out when swiping all might’s quirk the first time, so now he needs to use it or else it’ll hurt him. all might, being the symbol of peace, gave him permission to use his quirk, even if it messes him up to have it taken.
THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY HE’S SO NERVOUS. HE’S STILL GOT A BIT OF A VILLAIN MENTALITY, SO HE’S JUST WAITING FOR THE OTHER SHOE TO DROP. AND HIS NOTE TAKING ABOUT OTHER QUIRKS IS SO HE CAN FIND SOMEONE HE CAN BORROW A QUIRK FROM THAT ISN’T ALL MIGHT. I HESITATE TO SAY THAT MEI KNOWS, BUT IT’S ENTIRELY POSSIBLE. SHE MIGHT EVEN BE TRYING TO HELP HIM FIX IT. IT EVEN FITS WITH BOLD CAPITAL’S THEORY THAT SHE’S TRYING TO HELP HIM STABILIZE HIS TECH!
I just had another thought: What if All Might gave Deku his quirk, somehow, and now he’s just running on what he has left. Maybe the skeleton guy’s what he actually looks like and all the muscle is something like he’s flexing or something?
Don’t be ridiculous. Quirks can’t just be given to someone. The malfunctioning tech theory is the most likely explanation for it all.
