Detective Pikachu honestly feels like a love letter to Pokemon fans. From the (probably) Red cameo right from the start to the blending of familiar tunes into the soundtrack. It really feels like you could pause it on any frame and find at least one reference or Easter egg.

Something I really liked about Detective Pikachu (spoilers) is that when MewTwo is possessed by evil dude he uses his mouth to talk because that’s what humans do, but actual MewTwo uses his psychic abilities to speak with others. I thought that was a very good detail.

Detective Pikachu was pretty solid but the best part was this big tough shirtless trainer of a Charizard seeing his pokemon get hurt and going “*GASP* MY BABY! D8>”
