I think the part of the 40k fandom who really earnestly want to prove Astartes do/can in fact fuck are kinda missing the point.
Like Astartes are at their core deeply tragic creatures. They're people who've been turned into tools to serve the interests of fascist imperialism and, in the process, have had their humanity stripped away because they're purely utilitarian by design.
The scope of their entire existence has been narrowed down to a single point. They're more advanced than baseline humans in a physiological sense--stronger, faster, larger, better reflexes, etc--but beyond that, they're actually more limited.
There's a point in one of the Night Lord books where Octavia observes that, for all of the Astartes' advanced capabilities, they're really quite developmentally stunted. Like, huge powerhouses with unnaturally long lifespans, but the hyper-simplistic emotional depth and worldview of a 12 year old.
Which adds up. The Astartes love to sneeringly dismiss things like sexuality, intimacy and romantic love as nothing but the base, inferior drives of mortals, but once you strip back the superiority complex, it just sounds like a tween boy who can't wrap their head around why anyone would want to kiss a girl.
And, again, it's all by design; the Imperium doesn't want them developing attachments outside of a basic sense of brotherhood and filial love for their Primarch because that distracts them from their sole intended purpose. You don't want your hammer vanishing on a fuck fueled vacation to Bali with your handsaw when you're trying to build a shed. It's all a means of control.
And I get finding one of them hot and having horny headcanon, go fuckin nuts.
But whenever I see a reddit post that's like "B-BUT THE SPACE WOLVES FUCK! HORNY ASTARTES ARE CANON--!", it's like...I dunno, isn't it more compelling if they can't? That they've been robbed of simple human joys in order to better serve the interests of an uncaring theocratic fascist state? And they can't even grasp what's been taken from them?
Maybe that's just me.
The joke practically wrote itself. Choose your pokemon! (or catch them all, up to you)

I wanted to use up some old art supplies I have and things got out of hand pretty quickly. I have actually sketched all the primarchs, but it takes me a long time to work traditionally. I’ll try to post them eventually
This is actually how this scene happened.

Loyalist Primarchs as Birds
inspired by @pippinsquishums
Lion - Eurasian Scops Owl
Well-camoflauged and catlike, the right image is *so* Lion coded
Jaghatai Khan - Saker Falcon
The second-fastest bird in horizontal flight and the 3rd fastest animal in the world, the Saker Falcon is also the national bird of Mongolia
Leman Russ - European Herring Gull
Loud, travels in a large flock, and ruthless when it comes to food (and an excuse to post one of my favorite images on Wikipedia)
Pictured here: Leman Russ attacks Magnus the Red during the Burning of Prospero, circa 734004.M31
Rogal Dorn - Emperor Penguin
Survives an incredibly harsh climate by being built like a tank - just like Dorn.
Sanguinius - Luzon Bleeding-heart Dove
The religious/cultural significance of doves combined with their plumage fits Sanguinius so well. screaming crying throwing up rn
Ferrus Manus - Rock Dove (Pigeon)
The most successful bird in urban + industrial environments by far. Their feathers even have a metallic sheen.
Roboute Guilliman - New Caledonian Crow
One of the most intelligent birds in the world, it has the ability to use tools and solve advanced puzzles. The ultimate strategist.
Vulkan - Maleo
A rare bird that makes a nest in volcanic soil, using geothermic activity to incubate their eggs.
Corvus Corax - Raven/Ayam Cemani
Obviously the dude named "common Raven" in Latin would be a Raven, but the Ayam Cemani, a rare, entirely black chicken breed, suits him well. One of the void chickens on my current Stardew Valley save is named after Corvus, and Ayam Cemanis are essentially void chickens irl.
I had so much fun researching rare birds for this, and I should have the traitor primarch version posted soon <3
This was all i could think about since the reveal of Peter's new design, Giant Mecha Battles!
And the Revised Triumvirate's reaction,
Lion and Dante bet on who will win, Guilliman looks the most concerned but truthfully he's too overworked to involve himself, letting the problem resolve itself for once is a dream come true.
Bonus, colors:
"my brothers dreamed of dragons too, and the dreams killed them, every one."

this part of the hbomberguy iron lung review that Mark read on stream. yeah. this guy gets it
the metatextuality of Iron Lung is driving me insane because it plays so well with some of the themes of the movie itself. it’s an indie project to its core, small in budget and in scale — but enormous in reach. the scope this movie ended up accomplishing (and as of right now is still accomplishing!) is beyond what anyone imagined, certainly beyond what Mark himself imagined for it.
and that unimaginable scope was only possible because of the sheer collective force of excited fans and curious moviegoers. its success is fueled entirely by the willingness of millions of people to sit themselves down in a theater for two hours and experience one man’s vision.
and I can’t help but feel that the surprise second chance of finding the black box and getting it to the surface is of similar gravity to the unanticipated success of the movie itself. they never expected to find that down there — Mark never imagined it would go this far…
the SM-13 expedition Simon descends into is the desperate, hopeless combined effort of humanity to find something meaningful at the end of the world.
Iron Lung, the movie, is the sweat and blood of one man with a vision, who sent that vision out into the world and hoped people would find something meaningful within it.
the fictional world and the real world may not imitate each other perfectly here, but they do, however coincidentally, parallel one another beautifully. it’s the same story from opposite ends. all of humanity sends out one man to save them all; one man sends out his creation and is received by the collective awe of humanity. whether it’s optimistic or hopeless, whether it’s worth it or not, whether it’s being released to the world or welded shut inside a metal coffin — this story and this movie are the intersection of one man’s abilities with the expectations of the rest of humanity.
it’s a funnel of faith one way, a trumpet the other: the last of humanity poured all their hope into lone little Simon in a desperate bid to save them all — Mark put all his trust in the audience to embrace his latest creation. be it the initial embarking or the final reception, the triumph that is Iron Lung hinges on collective intent for a common goal.
all of which is to say:
it’s bigger than any of us.
