This is a really easy way to further help the #BlackLivesMatter movement! Youtuber Zoe Amira made an hour long video and all you have to do is play it on an ad-blocker free browser. All of the revenue generated from the video will be donated to different blm organizations depending on time of need. So if you’re at home and you’re busy with something else, this is really simple to do!
people are forgetting that kpop built itself off black culture. the least idols can do is talk about the people they profited from being killed. stop trying make excuses for their silence
FOREWARNING: this post and the following links contain the names of people who have passed.
A lot of Australians seem to feel detached from what’s going on in the States right now, including our idiot prime minister (who had the audacity to tell us not to “import things happening in other countries here to Australia”) but there is a similar BLM/Indigenous Lives Matter movement here protesting the unjust treatment of our indigenous population, particularly the fact that 432 indigenous deaths have occurred in police custody since the 1991 Royal Commission into Aboriginal deaths, and that “not a single police officer in any criminal jurisdiction in the Commonwealth has ever been convicted of any offence relating to an Aboriginal death in custody”.
Additionally, I think it’s important to note:
incarceration rates are disproportional to the percentage of the population Indigenous Australians represent (27% IR despite being only 2% of the population)
Aboriginal people in the prison system/out of home care are being disproportionately affected by COVID-19 restrictions
that there Have been protests/noise made against cases of police brutality against indigenous population as recent as 2019 (1 2 3)
that THIS year police put indigenous children under “preventative” surveillance

These last two links are updated Guardian pieces about the 432 indigenous deaths that have occurred in custody (which, again, there have been no convictions for), the last one in particular I think is a good reference.
This database tracks every known Indigenous death in custody in Australia from 2008 to 2018
Aboriginal people whose family members have died in custody express solidarity with people on the streets of US cities protesting against th
I want to note that I’m not indigenous myself and this is just a collection of information I’ve found or read in the past few weeks that I’ve found important.

white and non-black people, its not enough to spread around these links. yall need to be having the hard conversations with yourselves and those around you about antiblackness. talk to your friends & family, educate yourselves! correct racism, whether its lowkey or blatant immediately! your ignorance, whether intentional or not, and your willingness to let things slide when your friends and family say some racist shit is exactly what gets us harmed and killed.
what a nice time to remember that an officer in new south wales is currently being investigated for tripping an indigenous teenager and slamming his face onto bricks, therefore solidifying the fact that australians are fucking hypocrites when they look at the george floyd murder and go “at least that doesn’t happen here”!
Young Black boy killed during Protests by White Supremacist!!!
Black Protester Shot to Death Outside Omaha Bar
A young black protester was shot dead outside a bar in Omaha as unrest across the nation engulfed the Nebraska city, by white supremacist Jake Gardner.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old James Scurlock, whose father called for justice as the city braced for another night of chaos.
“Last night I lost a son, my wife lost a son, my kids lost a brother,” the grieving dad, who has the same name, told reporters at the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation Visitors Center, “His daughter lost a father. All because he decided to protest against racism.“
Unfortunetly, Prosecutors in Omaha, Nebraska, said Monday that the white bar owner will not face charges because in their minds “video evidence shows he acted in self defense” even though he had aimed the gun to a crowd of unarmed protesters and James only got involved to protect anyone form getting shot, resulting in losing his life, as both videos here show: video1/video2
The murderer, Jake Gardner, also owns 2 bars one of which was closed down because of an outpour of reviews stating they woulf often refuse service to black people and were known as violent racists. His other bar seems to be having the same issues.
HOW YOU CAN HELP: Call county Attorney Don Kleine and Mayor Stotgert. Demand justice and demand Jake Gardner be held responsible for the murder!!

Theory: Miss Major has been all but entirely erased from our narrative of Stonewall so people could avoid thinking about the fact that she's still alive and has a retirement fund that needs donations
if ur not black and u have to log off for a while for ur mental health, dont make it a big to-do. dont make a post like "keeping up with the news is so exhausting im gonna be logging off for a while guys :(" or "i cant handle the negativity in the news right now so im going offline for awhile :(" like that just makes u look like a privileged ass. taking care of urself is important but u dont have to make a post. just like any other day, ur allowed to just not be online for a few hours. i promise no ones gonna question it. no ones gonna be trying to hunt u down and demand to kno why u havent been posting #blm every ten minutes all day long with no breaks to eat or sleep or live ur life. u can just.... quietly log off
Would also be really annoying if they wore heat resistant gloves to throw back the hot tear gas canisters and if this got shared to all those protesting…
Would be a further shame if people started covering cameras (as seen in Hong Kong, with protestors using poles and rakes to lift cardboard boxes over security cameras), blinding drone optics with laser pointers, and flooding police-run reporting apps with junk data.
It would be a shame if the protesters noted that plainclothes cops can be identified a number of ways, such as wearing steel-toed boots; an armband or wristband of a particular color; driving white, black, or dark blue cars with concealed lights; or having the outline of cuffs visible in the back pocket or the bumps of an armor vest’s shoulder straps under their shirt.
It would be a shame if the protesters began making their signs out of inch-thick plywood to stop rubber bullets, forming a tight shield wall to prevent police from singling out and mobbing individual protesters. It would be a shame if the people behind the shield wall held up umbrellas so that tear gas canisters fired over the heads of the front line will be bounced away. It would be a shame if protesters began constructing improvised armor vests out of duct tape, hardback books, and ceramic tiles.
It would be a shame if protesters started wearing safety glasses, hard hats, respirators, and gardening gloves, all of which can be found at the same hardware stores as the plywood. It would be a shame if they started using traffic cones (the kind without the hole in the top) upside-down buckets, or other improvised lids to contain tear gas by placing them over the canisters.
It would be a shame if protesters learned that police scanners are legal to own in the US, allowing them to learn where police are moving and what routes they intend to take. It would be a shame if they discovered that these scanners can be used to send as well as receive, allowing them to flood the scanner frequencies with noise.
All this would be a terrible, terrible shame.

respectability politics is how we get people saying the entire BLM movement is a hate movement because some of the protests became riots or because some of the protesters chanted “fuck the police”, but when it comes to Neo-Nazis, they’re happy to engage them in “polite debate” because they appear “dapper” and calm/reasonable. it’s how people genuinely believe that “antifa are as bad as fascists” because we use violence against them.
it all comes back down to this bizarre preoccupation with how nice and polite someone seems, rather than the content of their ideas and their overall goals.
25 Black-owned bookstores you can support right now
while i don’t claim to be a “book blogger” by any account (more of a cranky publishing-person blogger most days), i know a lot of people have followed me through my book posts, so i’m taking advantage of that captive audience to boost these bookstores. shop them through their own websites and if you’re local, look into curbside pickup to minimize shipping costs and overhead. okay that’s all thanks bye stay safe.
