Random question: but im thinking of throwing my hat into the ring and writing a small brief fic of the night santos and mel went to karaoke and im trying to pick another song mel might sing.

Small prediction for S3, the result of the deposition is that mel will have to repeat her R3 year and ellis could possibly be on probation and cause some tension between her and mel if ellis blames mel for tanking it 😬

But then they hear a patient shouting at mel and they’re both in front of of her in seconds and share a look of well damn, okay, i guess we agree on one thing

i saw that interview where the writers (?) say they knew one of the end scenes (or the end scene?) is langdon and mel and while im hopeful its a nice touching moment, im also weary that langdon is going to fuck it up. Hes got fuck up a good thing energy about him

Not to stoke fire into kingdon, but i imagine working at the VA has a lot of pain management and physical therapy/ chiropractic moves that mel must have learned…and boy is langdon going to have back issues that will need worked one day

I have no idea what they plan to do with mel and Langdon. Like im 98% sure they are not going to end up together (and personally, i dont really want it, despite loving their whole situation). But it does feel like langdons marriage is taking a hit, between the sobriety, getting the puppy without consulting with her, making another big decision to pay for louies funeral without her (side note- dana is doing her best to save this marriage), never seeing him text her or call her or lean on her on his first day back (it wouldve been really easy to slip a 2 second love you babe, before hanging up a phone call to start a scene is all im saying), in fact he hardly mentions her and it doesnt seem like shes trying to contact him at all either, not to mention the ER is a pretty time consuming job already so when would he have the time to work on it?

And the marriage ending is its own thing, but the fact that they went out of their way to show that both mel and langdon are history nerds is… idk maybe just to show they have more in common than even they know? And they both get excited about new medical procedures, and love dogs, and then giving them soft lighting for the fireworks scene… Idk, its definitely a more romantic vibe than say a mentor/ mentee relationship. Which, narratively kind of makes sense for mel who needs to find a life outside of becca, but what is this doing for langdon? Does he see a version of himself in her? Are they going to give us an awkward one person is more into it than the other situation? Will langdon catch feels and question his fidelity to his wife?? Or read too much into it and make a pass on like his lowest day and fuck everything up??? Like what is going on here?????

Im going to be real upset if they didnt make mel and santos besties for season 3. Thats the ultimate grumpy cat / sunshine person pairing on the show!

Been thinking about Mels past and have come to the horrible conclusion, based on her reaction to certain cases and the deposition, that Mels mom must have been sick when she was young maybe high school, her dad already dead, and CPS got involved because both becca and her mom needed care that mel was unable to provide (but she must have been trying hard to be both their caretakers) and she had to go to court and fight to keep her family together and lost. So becca might have actually been taken away, at least for a bit until mel was of age and could fight to get custody back. So this would explain her fear of the deposition on top of her concern for the child being separated from his parents, and her emotions when the daughter was reunited with her hurt mother, on top of the sympathy she has for caretaker fatigue. And i genuinely think the only thing she ever did for herself was go to med school and there wasn’t a single other moment in her life where she put her needs first

it is not an impossibility that Mel and Becca were both homeschooled together and maybe that’s why shes a bit socially awkward. Shes probably on the spectrum too, but i bet growing up with Becca she was the one who could get her to take her medicine or try new foods, or even get dressed for the day, and it was just easier to keep her home. And mel loves becca so it never felt like she was missing out or that she was a burden. Shes probably been taking care of becca her whole life, likely not getting her own autistic needs met and accidentally getting sidelined for beccas, or even sidelining herself because it wasn’t as bad. Thats what shes used to, but again, mel loves becca so it was just how it had to be and that was okay with her. She probably went into medicine because of her, trying to understand what made them different.

and then like 2 ish years after she finally left home to go to college, probably the only time she was without her, her parents die, and shes the sole caretaker. Not only that but shes completely alone. I expect after they died they had a will set up so they were given enough money to pay for beccas support needs and maybe a bit to mel for school and this was all handled by the lawyers but she had to explain this all to becca who doesnt handle change very well, and everything changed, so maybe she never got to really grieve or process their losses herself because now her life is all about becca.

And then in season 2, its not. And mel learns she doesn’t have to have a life revolving around her sister, and im so fascinated by her development especially since santos is now a friend and a very dominant personality.

Thing is tho Mel is the perfect candidate to do something accidentally sexy like ripping her shirt off to stop a bleed or shouting at the entire ED to get everyone to calm down and i know at least 6 people in the pitt would be very distracted for the rest of the day
