As Indigenous creators, this is a stepping stone in the movement of so many talented Indigenous artists who are all working to change the perceptions of who we are as Indigenous people in today’s world.

Fine Arts students from Oglala Lakota College recently put on an Art Show at the Suzie Cappa Art Center in Rapid City, SD. The concept of the show is Misconceptions of the Reservation. Each artist demonstrates their interpretation of this in their own art forms. These photos by Angel White Eyes are of people from the Pine Ridge Reservation who overcome the statistics and break the mold of preconceived notions of people living on Pine Ridge. The show will be up until the end of July.

I'm sorry for the lack of recent posts on this blog. I've been incredibly busy these last few months.. But I definitely have more time to post now. I will definitely try to post more often. Summer time in Pine Ridge is where it's at anyways. Thanks to anyone who still follows!

I wrote this poem last year around the time I heard about the Navajo nation suing Urban Outfitters for their “navajo panties”. I’ve had up to about here with all those damn models in headdresses and people walking around wearing geometric designs on their clothes trying to look native. Its just gets me. But anyways please reblog. I want to/need to get the word out about my poem.

A zombie short film. The whole idea for the short came about when my good friend Isnala wanted to enter a contest for an AR-15 rifle. He didn’t want to enter a conventional response video, he wanted to get creative. So, what resulted was the concept story for this short. We developed the story and the production over the course of one week, and shot the footage over a 9 hour period. We went in with a 4 man team which included: Isnalawica (lead talent, story creator, grip, producer), Angel White Eyes (lead talent, makeup), James Yellow Boy (key grip), and myself. We’re all from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. As native people, it’s exciting to make a film that steps outside the norm and crosses genres. Even though this film came about for a contest, it also meant an opportunity to create a project that would showcase young Native American artists taking on mainstream concepts. Not sparkling vampires or teen wolves, but a grittier and always popular, zombie story.

Check out this short film done by Willi White, an aspiring film maker from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. This film was done on Pine Ridge, and for once doesn't show alcoholism and poverty, but instead zombies. And it's not a metaphor!
