Valentine’s Day Special! ♡
How To Analyse Your Planetary Placements: A Guide
Self-reflection is so important and is (in my book) one of the ultimate forms of self-love. It helps you to understand yourself better and nurture the relationship with yourself. Because when you do this, you can nurture your connections with others even better.
This Valentine’s day I want to challenge you to practice self-love and self-appreciation by practicing self-reflection through astrology.
This guide will teach you how to analyse each of your placements in depth, so that you can use astrology as a tool to connect with yourself on a less surface level.
I saw this method on Twitter and I’ve been using it since to analyse my own placements! So this post is inspired from that! I recommend you checking them out!
First let’s get familiar with planetary rulerships. These will help us later.
I use the traditional rulership system but you can use whatever works best for you.
★ TRADITIONAL PLANETARY RULERSHIPS
Jupiter: Sagittarius, Pisces
Saturn: Capricorn, Aquarius
★ MODERN PLANETARY RULERSHIPS
STEP 1: Identify the planet you want to start with. Lets call this “planet A”.
understand the significance of that planet
STEP 2: Identify the house that planet A is in.
list everything that the house stands for
» This is the area of life where planet A will affect you the most.
STEP 3: Identify the sign of planet A.
list everything that sign stands for
» These are the qualities that planet A expresses in your chart.
STEP 4: Identify all the major and minor aspects to planet A.
list all the aspects it makes with other planets and what the significance is
» This is what helps or challenges the planet in it’s expression.
STEP 5: Identify the dispositer of planet A.
The dispositer is the planet which rules over the sign in which another planet is located in.
So if for example, if planet A is Mars in Taurus, check where Venus is in your chart and the sign Venus is in (because Taurus is ruled by Venus.) VENUS = DISPOSITER
If planet A is Sun in Aquarius, check where Uranus is in your chart and the sign Uranus is in (because Aquarius is ruled by Uranus in modern rulership.) URANUS = DISPOSITER
If planet A is Mercury in Cancer, check where the Moon is in your chart and the sign the Moon is in (because Cancer is ruled by the Moon.) MOON = DISPOSTER
list the qualities of the dispositer planet and the corresponding sign
» The dispositor controls and influences the planet. Its expression is a result of the qualities of the dispositer.
Step 6: Check the sign that the planet A rules over and where it is in your chart
If planet A is the Sun, check what house Leo falls in your chart.
If Planet A is the Moon, check what house Cancer falls in your chart.
If Planet A is the Mercury, check what house Gemini/Virgo falls in your chart.
If Planet A is the Venus, check what house Taurus/Libra falls in your chart.
If Planet A is the Mars, check what house Aries and/or Scorpio falls in your chart.
If Planet A is the Jupiter, check what house Sagittarius and/or Pisces falls in your chart.
If planet A is Saturn, check what house Capricorn and/or Aquarius falls in your chart.
If Planet A is the Uranus, check what house Aquarius falls in your chart.
If Planet A is the Neptune, check what house Pisces falls in your chart.
If Planet A is the Pluto, check what house Scorpio falls in your chart.
list what that sign and house stand for
» This is where that planet finds fulfilment in your chart.
Didn’t Understand? Lets try it with an example.
Here is a random chart generated on Astro Seek:
Let’s say this lovely person wants to analyse their Sun.
The Sun is all about consciousness and soul. It signifies energy and vitality.
STEP 2: Sun in 12th house
This individual seems to be highly spiritual. They may value seclusion greatly and may be extremely creative.
This person may be very artistic and creative. They can be spiritual and empathetic.
They love asking deep questions about the way the world works and may be explorers of the unseen especially taboo matters.
STEP 5: Dispositer - Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 9th
The deep need to know more about the world and embrace and explore all that is not yet known drives this individual to express themselves to the fullest.
The Sun finds fulfilment in the 5th house of self expression and romance.
The deep need to know and think more (Jupiter) about the world (9th) and the inquisitive, explorer mindset (Sagittarius) of this individual controls how the consciousness (Sun) expresses itself. It is empathetic and creative (Pisces) and expresses it the best in themes of spirituality and the divine (12th house). Intense, transformative energy (Sun Square Pluto) can sometime hinder this process however finding a common ground can allow the individual to grow. The consciousness then is able to expresses themselves genuinely (Leo-5th) where it finds fulfilment.
Let’s do Venus in this chart now.
Venus is about our material desires as well as the way we attract, receive and show love.
STEP 2: Venus in 10th house
This individual’s Venus is very visible in the public eye and is an important factor in their reputation.
STEP 3: Venus in Capricorn
This individual uses their hard work and determination to succeed in their material desires.
This person’s attraction and love is harmoniously connected to passion and ambition.
STEP 5: Dispositer - Saturn in Virgo in the 6th
This individual is hard-working and consistent and strive to be perfect. They experience delays but come out victorious.
STEP 6: Taurus - 2nd House, Libra - 7th House
Venus finds fulfilment in the area of life involving family and material wealth as well as one-on-one relationships.
The planet of desires, love and materiality (Venus) finds success because the individual has experienced lack (Saturn) in their past. Their daily life (6th house) consists of perfecting their skills and using what they know consistently (Virgo) to reach to the top (Saturn). Venus expresses its quality of dedication and hard work (Capricorn) and is most recognisable in their reputation and career (10th house). It is refined by the influence of drive and passion (Venus Sextile Mars) and finds its fulfilment in their familial (Taurus-2nd) and one-on-one relationships (Libra-7th).
You can then follow this same process to do all of your placements.
TIP: If you find it difficult to be objective with your placements, I encourage you to generate a random chart and use these steps to analyse those placements. Once you get enough practice you can move on to your own placements. :)
DISCLAIMER: This is in no way an exhaustive way to analyse your chart. This is just for the placements!
I hope this system helps you as much as it helped me.
Here’s to the journey of self-love! 🥂 Happy Valentine’s Day! 💌
