hola barberwitch. 63 yr old male Pagan based witch. Glad you're back. we have never met nor chatted yet, but i'm glad to see some folks that are a little longer down the path than new ones. Not sure what you posted before but it sounds like it was frequent; that's the kind of folk i'm looking for. Perhaps i'll work up the courage to post my Shadows...
best from south dakota,
Bart
I had some very positive messages and reposts, but your response solidified it for me.
While I’ve been on my path a while, just the length of life gives some perspective, so I really appreciate your outreach.
I did post frequently, I would do a witch tip Wednesday (to be honest [tbh] I think I was one of the first since I started so long ago) and some general tarot pulls either for the community at large or a specific tarot pull that just came through that I figured would be helpful for one of my followers.
While I’d love to see your book of shadows or personal working, I will say that I only shared some general personal workings, or would share 3/5ths of what some of me workings were. I have a post specifically (somewhere) about leaving some thing out because I’m a community of witches, you do want to leave some stuff out on the off hand you need to do a working against another witch 😅
I’ve done this for reasons you’ll probably get. 1) I gave structures with the hope that others would tailor things to their craft because mine is varied but specific. 2) I trust my perspective and while it may work, I don’t know the motivation on strangers on the internet.
I’ve given and done full working for and with friends or clients because I know where they coming from. I do baneful and left hand path stuff as part of my practice, and aside from that, I work with a lot of poisonous and toxic plants so I’m tentative of telling people to work with something that could potentially make them hallucinate, or give them heart palpitations as young adult.
Thanks for reaching out Bart, there’s some good magic in South Dakota that unless I lived there, I’ll never be able to use.
Since this is the first post from my touch stone and others will see:
I’m going to go back through all my posts, my advice and my personal practice and organize it. Maybe it’ll end up a book someday or even a series since I have a few friends who’ve published their craft.
Mostly, I need to remember what I’ve said and what I’ve posted so I don’t repeat myself when past self spent every Tuesday picking a perfect GIF and formatting my post.
Cheers,

Hey there, I’ve been conspicuously missing for 5 years. Touching the tumblr witch community again with the pad of a toe.
Are people still wanting my updates, my insights?
Life has changed a lot for me in these 5 years, but my previous outlets for witchcraft conversation have dried up for life, distance, changes and all that.
Something tonight knocked some dust off a shelf and my account was the title that was legible.
Cheers,

(new sign off coming if I come back)
r u still alive...?
Yeah, had to take a step back. February was life changing for me and really, excited for this year to be over

Pause to the drunk readings
Going with this person (they/them) to an event so I need to put a hold on my readings.
Wow that reading was so spot on that I nearly dropped my phone! Thanks again for the reading.
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much dear! I’m glad it made an impact and made sense to you.
Best of luck and thank you for the support!

Hey! I think of blue when I hear "loss" and think of the smell of rosemary. I am considering applying to an academy out of my home country and I would like some insight on whether it's an idea worth pursuing. My word is mushroom. Thanks!
Hey there sweets!
So, stream of consciousness here we go!
One thing that pops up is you thinking about not just your education but your life afterwards (always a good thing, but consider the motivations.) are you thinking about what you want to do with your career and life, or are you considering this school because it’s in a location you want to be? Don’t let emotions get in the way of your practicality.
It’ll be a balancing act to be sure (hence why you’re seeking different points of view 💁🏼♂️). But know that compassionately, the people you are thinking of, that may be factors of why you wouldn’t go, want you to succeed and while they’d miss you...it’s so exciting for you to pursue something out of the norm. Regardless of your decision, there is a sense of pride that you’ve so deeply considered throwing caution to the winds, changing so much, to pursue yourself. So many people aren’t comfortable pursuing their own ambitions and finding their inspiration that those who know what you’re going through can’t help but feel a sweep of emotion.
If you do it...you’ll find something. Can’t lay my finger on it, but it’s the nature of growth and experiences. You will find happiness because that’s what we strive to find in all our pursuits. You’ll kill it dearest.
That’s not to say that it is t stressful. It’s such a step away from certain comforts that it can be jarring. On the other hand, so many issues that were based on proximity will be out the window. So take time to think about what is to be gained, lost and why you want to do this. The truth will out.
Lastly. No matter what your decision is, there will be loss. There will be disappointment. That’s the nature of our existence. If you go you’ll miss certain things here where you are. If you stay, you’ll miss all those things over there. What that means for you is you need to be comfortable with the fact that there will be loss regardless, so pick the path that brings you the most happiness, success, and growth.
Long story short, it seems like you will succeed and be great. Just acknowledge that it is a life change in more ways than you’ve thought, and that gives you space to grow.
Good luck dearest, and send me a post card, I would truly appreciate it 😊
🦋 Cheers, Barberwitch

Do you know any fast acting love spells?
None that I would share publicly.
Some have varying degrees of “intrusiveness” or needing of taglocks. Some more powerful than other taglocks.
So
Are fast acting in the sense that results are felt but maybe not the total intention.
Some offer an honest opportunity for a real connection.
But regardless, i don’t share intense curses, of love spells on my blog (only person to person) until I have a conversation because..well, I don’t want to be held responsible for the repercussions etc

I made this spell jar and when I got to the end of the instructions it said to bury it in the ground. However, I do not want to do that since it’s a glass jar and contains salts and also don’t have any places nearby to bury a paper bag or biodegradable container/ no space to fill in a pot with dirt and bury it there. Would disposing of it by changing to a plastic container and putting it in the trash be okay? Any information on alternate ways of doing this last step would be greatly appreciated
Hey darling, I deleted my app because I got a new phone and life was crazy so...sorry if this is super late.
I understand the availability of plastic being a thing. I wouldn’t “write” a spell as being seeking a plastic container for anything. If you have a water bottle and want to use that and dispose then I say go for it.
Keep in mind that spells vary and are skewed off the witches point of view (look up my post about hearths, hearth magic etc) This May help put things in perspective.
View the working and see if burying it is an integral part: does it mirror the intent of the spell?
Or is it a partial representation: does burying it signify the diffusion of the energy, sending it forth?
Answer those questions and you’ll be able to figure out what the best alternative is and if it matters to you or your magic

Ashes, Incense and Powerful Powders
For some, when they think of witches, they think of herbs in jar, potions and creatures. They wouldn’t be wrong, a lot of witches do have those things, but they may forget the magic of powders.
Powders are integral to witchcraft in many different forms. The powdery remnants of burnt spellwork, the ground herbs and spices used to make incense, and magical powders sprinkled to carry out the work of the witch. Even illusionists have their powders, thrown down in a flash of fire and brimstone that leaves those in attendances embracing a little magic themselves.
This is seen from the loose incense burned for rites and divinatory purposes, to stoking bonfires and adding sparks and light. The gathering of dirt and dried clay and mixing it to make a healing mud in folk medicine. Taking powdered pigments and resins and making enchanted ink, and the main focus of this post, grinding spell components to make enchanted powders that are so prevalent in folk magic. The mixing of them with a liquid medium opens up the doors even further.
Any blend of herbs and spices you put into a sachet can be ground up and used in several ways. Adding a liquid and it becomes a paste to draw sigils, write intentions and incantations, trace doorways and give your intent a physical foothold and representation. Blowing it off your hand to send it to the winds, or sprinkling in doorways, numerous ways of using them.
☝️Witch Tip: if you want to make incense or grind up herbs and don’t want/physically can’t grind them by hand, save up $15 and buy a cheap coffee grinder to do the heavy lifting for you. Dedicate it solely to herbs so you don’t accidentally use it for coffee.
Now on to the rest of my ranting and my promised recipe.
Grinding some things is obviously easier than others, but I never quite feel as in touch with my ancestral witches than taking whole spices and using my mortar and pestle and turning it to dust. That extra time and physical exertion is the window of intent. The chance to add that extra piece of your magic into the working. This physical act is what’s needed for one of my personal workings: Hex Powder.
There are tons of recipes for hexed powders, banishing powders, ritual and cleansing ones too if you look, and honestly, making them yourself is a lot cheaper than buying them. It’s even cheaper in a lot of cases to buy herbs whole, and grind them yourself!
Now, at the asking of several people, here’s one of the few personal spells I’ve posted and will post. The previous post I made about it, I took out some ingredients, and to be honest, I do that a lot in spells I post because for those who know what to look for, they get a lot more insight into my practice and how my magic works. Understand I’m all about replacing things either due to availability or to connect better to yourself and make the magic yours, but also accept that if something is changed in this, then it’s not my hex powder.
Ingredients:
Grains of Paradise/Guinea Grains
Cayenne Pepper
Black Peppercorns
Black Salt
Incense Ash from ritual during new moon
Burnt herbs from ritual during full moon
Mistletoe
Datura seeds
Iron flakes or steel shavings
Places these in a mortar and pestle and grind them together. Bring up your sadness, dark and creeping, the incense ash. Bring up disdain, astringent and black, the salt. Bring up your bitterness, dry and shriveled, the peppercorns. Bring up your anger, red and burning, the cayenne. Bring up your weakness, secret and hidden, mistletoe. Bring up your strength, balanced and underestimated, the grains of paradise. Bring up your power, smoldering and , unbending, the burnt herbs. Bring up the spirit of the earth, unforgiving and uncontrollable, te datura. Bring up cold calculation, sharp and cutting, the iron.
Curse/swear the entire time you grind, rile yourself up, pouring the emotions, the words and thoughts through the handle into the herbs. Grind until done and medium grained, if it’s too fine a grit, it will be hard to manage and harder to handle safely.
You now have hex powder, throw in the direction, NOT AT, those who you want to affect. Sprinkle it where they will tread on it or over it. Add it to taglock and contain it for a binding hex. Whatever feels right, go for it.
Parting notes: do not smell it, don’t throw it upwind if you, do not inhale the powder or ingest it. Be cautious, it is both magically and physically potent and dangerous. If gotten instant headaches from not being careful, I’ve seen a flat tire happen right after I used it. I’ve used it for causing nightmares and sleepless nights by tracing their name in the powder.

Witch Tip Wednesday 5.16.18
Tinker with Tinctures
Hey there witches! I’ve covered water infusions aka Hydrosols before, but it’s time to move onto the hard stuff: alcohol
A tincture is an extract which has an alcohol base. Traditionally, these were herbal infusions used for medicine, but for today’s topic, we’ll be talking about tinctures in all forms, but it’s up to you as to what’s for consumption, and what may be used as a perfume, floor wash, or ritual spray etc.
Tinctures can be a lot easier to make because they have a cold infusion method, as in no heat source is used to speed the process. Alcohol absorbs plant matter and dissolves quite easily, so heating it is a dangerous step not necessary for the occasional infusion.
What can be made into a tincture?
Flowers
Berries
Leaves
Roots
Stalks and barks
Spas and resins
Seeds
These can be dried or fresh.
Especially for flowers, some fragrance doesn’t carry once the flower withers, so using fresh can be super helpful if the fragrance is important!
What do I do to make one?
Take your container like a mason jar
Fill with plant material about halfway*
Add in your alcohol**
Shake and let infuse***
Strain and decant into its new container
Now it’s simple, but you do have to make some decisions like if you’re making individual tinctures or a blend. Individual tinctures can be blended later of course, but takes more containers and individual checking than throwing it all together. Go by instinct and research until you’ve got the experience.
That sounds simple, but I want some more tips:
Break apart or cut up ingredients so more of the matter gets mixed and infused. It releases fragrance, juices and gives more surfaces for the base to interact.
Shake your tincture while it’s infusing every day. You may want to infuse for a day, a week, or a full cycle of the moon, you do you!
If you’re using a mason jar or other metal lid container, a piece of Saran Wrap/cling plastic can protect the lid from corroding.
You can get a high proof alcohol and dilute it with distilled water.****
If taking internally, do so with care, and dosage is usually only a few drops at a time. Check with your doctor before starting any regiment.
If you want to make a ritual tincture for a salt bonfire, the alcohol has to be minimum 100 proof or it won’t catch fire. Don’t burn yourself.
I have a ginger tincture I use for upset stomachs. Just a few drops in mineral water and it settles right down (think ginger ale).
For tooth aches, I use a few drops of clove tincture in warm water and swish around. Plus my breath smells great afterwards.
Just remember, it’s concentrated, and in a lot of cases may not taste great by itself, just like if you took a spoon full of vanilla extract. Start small, dilute, or use in ritual.
Stay safe my little beasties.
🦇Cheers, Barberwitch

Do you mind if people uae your writing in their grimoires?
Go crazy! Just please don’t publish my stuff as your own. One, that’s shitty. Two, it’s all actually copywritten
Quick update about my abscence
So...quick little summary.
My day job has been crazy. I’m about to go to a meeting to determine my responsibilities for my promotion. I’m now a supervisor for a medical group and have about 20 employees who will report to me. In an hour I announce it to them.
My partner, my fiancé. He and I broke up in February. It’s been...tough. I’m currently looking at apartments to move into, and considering moving in with my parents while I save up for an unforeseen expense of paying a lot more for rent.
I still have to pay for the salon and antique store that he and I own, because we’re liable for it for the next two years.
I’m just very drained. I still live with my ex, we’re in separate bedrooms, and I’m also dealing with the fact that if I move, I don’t get to take my dog with me. There’s just a lot going on, and I know I have popped on randomly over the past couple months, but my brain feels like pudding.
So yeah. Thanks for being patient, it’s just harder to muster up the energy to get back to posting regularly than I thought. 7 years together will do that I suppose.
