this is second time in toni’s life where she feels like she doesn’t have a family. the first was after her mother died. her mother died in a car accident, and she was left with her father, who was a drug addict. she was twelve. her mom was her best friend, and her dad was absent for most of her childhood. he came back permanently a couple of years before her mother’s death. although they were dirt poor, toni still had a happy childhood. her mother made sure that toni was always fed, and was never aware of their problems. 

toni was staying with her uncle one evening, while her mom and dad were out. her dad was high, and still insisted on driving, despite her mom’s argument. he crashed the car head-on into a tree. toni’s mom was killed instantly, but her dad survived. 

she resented him ever since. 

shortly after her mom’s death, her dad went awol again, and she spent a lot of time being taken care of by her uncle and her grandfather, and by extension, the serpents. they welcomed her with open arms, and they really were a family. toni would spend most of her time with her fellow serpents, and she grew up with them, even if it was too fast. 

by aged fourteen she had seen and done things that no fourteen-year-old girl should. they made her strong. she knew she would never have to feel alone again, like she did when she lost her mother. 

at least, she thought she would never feel that way again. when jughead exiled her from the serpents, she felt like that twelve year old little girl once again, who had just had everything ripped away from her.

a party at the blossom house certainly wasn’t how toni thought she would be spending her saturday night, but when cheryl invited her, she thought… why not? she had been at the party for around an hour, and she hadn’t seen cheryl at all. she was going to send her a text message, but she decided against it. she was probably off somewhere with her actual friends, she pondered. toni was mixing herself a drink in the kitchen, when a pair of porcelain arms snaked around her hips. she jumped slightly at the unexpected contact, but she soon relaxed when she realised it was cheryl. physical contact… this was new. “oh hey.” she said, a lopsided smile on her lips as she turned her head to meet cheryl’s eyes. “where have you been hiding?”

alice cooper was the last person toni had expected to run into on her walk back to thistlehouse. she had gotten herself into trouble, once again. she had decided to pick a fight in one of the bars she had found to spend her nights in since being kicked out of the serpents. a little too much liquor and her underlying anger resulted in a nasty gash across her face, and bleeding knuckles on both hands. “you didn’t have to fix me up.” she said, slightly embarrassed as alice worked on cleaning her up. “i’m fine. i’ve had worse than this.” she said with a light laugh. “could we… keep this between us?”
