ok so! fun fact about redās dad, aka markus āmaroonā cole rus. i made him up around four years ago, WAY back in 2016. initially it was for a friendās comic but Iāve been adapting him ever since. he has become so much worse as a person since then.
to put it simply, maroon is a horrible person. i am going to say that now. there is nothing redeemable sbout himāhe doesnāt have a tragic azula or zuko backstory, thereās no reason to find any semblance of good in him, he doesnāt deserve redemption (nor would he work for it in the first place) like given to characters who did not work such as hordak and the diamonds. maroon is an irredeemable villain. that much is true. in the event that my rewrite becomes more widely known, i simply pray that people will not thirst for him or act as if he is deserving of anything but suffering.
anyways. now that i have that cleared up. letās talk about maroon.
maroonās smartāiāll give him that. heās a scientist, he definitely has the highest doctorate or whatever that illumonai-b has to offer. but if thereās anything that maroon devotes much of his focus on, itās research. he is always looking for new information. to use. for experiments, inventions, et cetera. that was always his focus.
who knows what drew magenta to him ā iām not decided on that. maybe it was a situation where they had to. maybe they knew each other when they were younger. but magenta does not love him anymore. i can tell you that.
maroonās always been fascinated with the mere existence of magic and raw power. sure, illumonai-b has these things, but rarely is there one being with so much. he knew of the possibility of one. but he had no idea if, well, they truly existed.
that is, until red came along. his sole child had the brightest red eyes, and maroon could feel it. he knew. he knew that his kid was a phosphinx (in illumonai-b terminology, thatās a āprimeā; like a primary color, per se.) and he wanted to harness that. to maroon, a phosphinx was all red was to himāthe fact that it was his son was just a convenience bonus. magenta? she cared for her son. maroon? ...not so much.
all red was was an opportunity to him.
much of his time spent was red was experiments of...various proportions. to test red. to test his powers, to force it to be active. and, further, to try and harness that energy and power for himself. this continued for...a while, despite magentaās tries to stop it.
red, of course, was far too young to fully...comprehend what his dad was doing to him. that didnāt mean it didnāt hurt, didnāt mean he wasnāt scared. magenta saw this. so she sent him away. maroon was furious that his āsubjectā was gone, so he threw himself further into his work. and he only got worse.
so, when red finally returned, with people with him, maroon only saw another opportunity. and some...unfortunate obstacles to boot.
