Marathon #2 is officially in the books! Finished in 5:47:07 which took 15 minutes off my time in 2019 and very thrilled about that. A big thank you to everyone who came out to cheer and those who cheered from afar. The day was long but it was so great to be a part of one of the first big events in NYC since March 2020. I’m not even going to count the days of how long it has been since I stepped into a theater and saw a live musical, but it has been WAY too long. Too long of not feeling the energy of the performers and the audience. Too long of not laughing with people. Too long of hearing other people crying over the same moments as you and trying to hide their sniffling. Too long of not artists so completely passionate about what they are doing perform on stage. The lights went down, the curtain came up, and there were tears in my eyes. To be back in this sacred space was everything that I needed it to be and I missed it so damn much. Also, I had forgotten how much this show can resonate with me and how much it can make me ugly cry. A year ago... The last in person race I ran was the Wash Heights 5K and then we went for brunch at the dinner. We talked of future races and training plans while chowing down on pancakes and eggs. Little did we know what was coming and how badly the race season would be decimated. I miss this greatly. I miss the excitement of race morning and I miss the training motivation of having a race on the horizon. I look forward to the day when the Armory is no longer needed as a vaccination site and race mornings are happening again. Well March/April 2020 have certainly turned everything on its head. Never in a million years did I ever think that I would be working in Psych Nursing but this week I started orientation at Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center. I have been placed there on a temp contract through Cuomo’s call for healthcare providers for support during COVID-19 and am along for this ride. My Strava/Instagram was supposed to look very different today. There was supposed to be a picture of me with a medal finishing the NYC Half Marathon, my 2/4 in 4 months. But life has taken a very dramatic turn in the past week and on Tuesday the race was cancelled. While bummed about it, NYRR absolutely made the right call, especially with the way things have developed since then. So today you get my in my race shirt, having run 3 miles in training for my other 2 half marathons coming up. Running is going to be my sanity check in the midst of all this and thank god I have all the gear needed to run outside where is it still okay to be.
