No because in the studio recording JD never had a line that acknowledges Veronica's fake suicide which leads me to believe that he thinks he's hallucinating her, that she's a manifestation of his conscience. And when she tells him I wish your mom stayed around longer etc. he probably thinks it's his own wishes. He probably thinks she's his Greek chorus, and doesn't realize she's real until she shoots him.

People make too many generalized statements about J.D. and I’m about to argue all (some) of them

TW for mentions of mental illness, abuse, and death- since, well.. it’s Heathers.

Starting with the one I see a lot- “J.D. didn’t care about Veronica” or “J.D. didn’t care about what Veronica wanted” are both untrue in some ways. Personally, I don’t see why J.D. would have killed for Veronica if he didn’t care about her. But this is where the claim that he ignored her opinions comes in. I think J.D. had an INSANELY idealized view of Veronica. He thought that she wanted those people dead and he just had to get her to accept it. YES, she actively argued it and he was in the wrong. But it wasn’t a case of him not caring about her.

Also, I often see people calling J.D. a psychopath- which while he is canonically called one, is untrue. If my memory serves me correctly, “psychopath” is an outdated term for an individual suffering from ASPD. Which.. fun fact, J.D. in most portrayals does not fit the diagnostic criteria for. I could rant about how calling every homicidal character a psychopath or headcanoning them with ASPD JUST because they’re a murderer is stereotyping.. but I’ll spare you all from that.

Headcanoning him to have ASPD however isn’t inherently problematic since it’d be mildly plausible due to traits.. ehem.. OTHER THAN HIM BEING A MURDERER.

I also once saw someone claim that watching his mom die when he was 9 years old wasn’t enough trauma to fuck him up. As if he didn’t WATCH. HIS. MOM. DIE. WHEN HE WAS NINE. Also not to mention the implied abuse or at the very least neglect from Big Bud Dean.

Due to J.D.’s toxic behavior I’ve seen people try to claim he didn’t love Veronica- but that’s just.. not true. He 100% loved Veronica despite the trauma he inflicted. His intention wasn’t to hurt her (until the end, at least..). He thought that everything he was doing was for her own good. You can love someone and still harm them. It’s stupid to claim otherwise.

Anyway I’m gonna go watch myself lose followers.

bruh... can you imagine the mythos that built around veronica post-heathers? like, form the town's perspective, she ditched her best friend for the popular kids, then the queen bee apparently killed herself. then two jocks spread rumours about her and then they're dead too. then her other friend tries to overdose in the bathroom and fails (they don't now she stopped it). then her former best friend tries to kill herself but fails. then her boyfriend blows himself up.

sherwood definitely looked at her differently after that. no-one could prove anything, but for most people she was either cursed or a killer. they were scared of her or scared for her.

For one, JD is very dissident. Don’t know how any of you could’ve missed that. It’s quite literally one of the biggest details about his character.

For two, he decided to blow up a high school dance because his girlfriend wouldn’t abandon her conscience and keep murdering people with him. He was gonna shoot her. Like, multiple times. How are we lacking these fundamental media literacy skills?

Seriously people.

Don’t even get me started on the fem jd/fem jdronica thing. Like, you’ve gotta be kidding me. Musicals are time loops. Every night, the same thing happens except for a few minor differences. It always ends the same. If you want the characters to do something different or to make better choices, too bad. The actors are bound by the script and the score. The only way for the time loop to end is for the show to close. But you (the audience) don't want the show to close, nor do the actors who would like to be employed. It's a lose/lose situation. For the actors, audience, technicians, and for the characters, who are forever stuck in the same stretch of time.
