passing afternoon â peter&marlene
Marlene steps into the Leaky Cauldron, pushing back her blonde curls so she can see better. Blue eyes scan the crowd, but sheâs looking for one person in particular. Sheâs always up for hanging out, especially with her close friends. In fact, she probably only ever hangs out with them. Sure, thereâs other friends that she keeps in contact with, but her three girls and her four boys, well, theyâre hers and she prefers hanging out with them. Sheâd never pass up this chance.
Finally, she spots him, and she bounds through the crowd, curls bouncing against her shoulders until she slips into the stool next to Peter. âHey!â She greets, beaming at him. âWhatâs up, buttercup?â
In an instant, Peter sat up on his stool, back straight, eyebrows quirked above eyes wide with excitement. For a minute there, heâd honestly been afraid that nobody would come and answer his invitation... though he supposed he could hardly blame them. Among the group, he was most likely the least fun to be with, nobody could deny that. In comparison to the antics that James and Sirius got up to or the wisdom that Lily, Mary and Remus imparted or the natural charm that Marlene and Daisy had, it was all too easy for him to appear dull and useless.
Even with the exhaustion etched on his features that he couldnât hide even if he tried to, the smile that spread across his face was genuine and bright, taking in the sight of Marlene in her entirety. Sometimes when it took too long for one of them to respond to his letters (of which he sent many that went along the lines of â What is small, furry and brilliant at sword fights? A mouseketeer! Just checking in. - Wormtailâ and other stupid jokes he hoped made them smile), he started panicking that something bad had happened, something he shouldâve been there to help them with but wasnât. With Marleneâs presence though, it felt almost as if there wasnât anything bad going on in the world at all, like this was a normal time for them and the rest of the world. âMarlene, hey! You made it!â he said with an unintended squeak of delight at the end, his voice breaking like it often did in moments of loud emotion. âOh, you know... training, boring stuff, really, you wouldnât want to hear about it.â He waved his hand in dismissal. âWhatâll you have? Itâs on me.â
