After a solid half an hour of devouring your food and endlessly dooming on TikTok, you returned your tray, thanking one of the kitchen staff before making your way back towards the elevators.
The afternoon rush had begun, and employees came and went carrying coffees, folders and laptops as they hurried between meetings. Compared to earlier, you now started to feel slightly out of place with the people around you.
When the elevator arrived, you stepped inside and pressed the floor number that had your office on.
You let out a long breath you hadn't realised you'd been holding.
A small smile tugged at your lips as you leaned your head back against the cool mirrored wall. You couldn't believe your first proper conversation with BTS had involved getting caught outside their practice room.
The elevator chimed softly as it reached your floor.
Stepping back onto the now familiar corridor, you instinctively reached for the lanyard hanging around your neck. The plastic access card swung lightly against your chest as you held it against the scanner beside your office door.
You pushed the door inwards and stepped inside, quietly shutting it behind you. Silence greeted you almost instantly.
Compared to the lively atmosphere of the canteen just minutes ago, your office felt almost unnaturally still. The gentle hum of the air conditioning was the only sound filling the room as your eyes wandered across the space.
A plain desk sat neatly in the centre of the room, accompanied by two black leather chairs opposite it. A tall filing cabinet stood tucked into the corner beside the window, while the bare white walls surrounding you somehow made the office feel even emptier than it really was.
I really need to make this place look a little less depressing.
You pictured a few framed photographs of you and Ha-Na hanging on the walls. Maybe a small plant for the windowsill. A couple of books. Anything that made the room feel less like a blank box and more like somewhere you could happily spend your days.
The image disappeared as quickly as it came. Your attention drifted towards your desk.
Your laptop still sat open exactly where you'd left it, your newly created company email patiently waiting for you with unread messages and onboarding reminders filling the screen.
You slowly lowered yourself into your chair, letting your shoulders finally relax...
Knock. Knock. Your head shot up.
The sudden interruption startled you enough that you nearly knocked your phone onto the floor.
Quickly sitting upright, you reached across the desk and closed your laptop with a softย thunkย before hurrying towards the door. Pulling it open, you were immediately greeted by an impossibly cheerful smile.
"Y/N!" Minji stood in the doorway holding a thick folder against her chest. She greeted you with a polite bow, her warm smile never faltering. "I hope you've been settling in alright."
"Minji-ssi." You returned the bow almost instinctively before stepping aside.
"I have, thank you." You smiled, "Please, come in."
She walked inside at an unhurried pace, taking in the room as she passed before settling into one of the leather chairs opposite your desk. Her eyes travelled slowly around the office.
A laugh escaped her. "Ah..." She gestured around the room. "These walls won't stay this empty for long."
You looked around yourself before smiling. "I was actually just thinking the same thing."
"You definitely should add some bits and bobs in here." She nodded enthusiastically. "It makes such a difference once you start adding your own personality!" She lifted a finger dramatically. "Though maybe don't decorate it with posters of whichever artists you end up working with."
You blinked. "...People actually do that?"
"Oh, absolutely." She laughed. "More often than you'd think." She shook her head in disappointment. A sarcastic laugh leaving her mouth. "An old staff member once took a picture of Taehyung while he was shirtless in the dressing room.. she framed it and attached it to her office wall."
"Holy shit?" Your jaw dropped to the ground. Things like that just felt so unreal. How can someone even do that to someone they work with.
Her expression softened into something a little more professional. "It isn't against the rules exactly..." "...but it can make the artists uncomfortable."
You nodded respectfully in agreement.
"They want to feel like they're working with professionals." Minji spoke sincerely. "Not fans." She smiled before placing the folder onto your desk.
She carefully opened it, flipping through page after page of neatly organised documents.
"Hmm..." She quietly murmured your name under her breath as she searched. "Y/N..." "...Y/N..."
"There you are." She pulled a single file free before neatly closing the folder again. When she looked back up, her expression had shifted into business mode. "So." she began, "We've officially finalised your placement."
Without even meaning to, you sat up a little straighter.
"For the foreseeable future..." She glanced down briefly to double-check the paperwork. "...you'll primarily be assigned to Jungkook-ssi."
Your heart skipped. "...Jungkook?"
The name echoed around your head. You'd expected to work with BTS at some point. Of course you had. But hearing one specific name made everything suddenly feel much more real.
You couldn't help looking confused. "I thought..." You hesitated. "...wasn't it Jimin-ssi whose makeup artist left recently?"
The atmosphere shifted almost immediately. Minji's eyebrows lifted ever so slightly.
The woman studied you for a brief moment. "...How did you hear about that?"
Her voice remained gentle, though there was obvious curiosity behind the question. "That information wasn't included in your induction." She obviously knew that. It felt like she had switched back to business mode all of a sudden.
Realisation hit you instantly. "Oh..." You felt your stomach drop. "I'm so sorry...I wasn't told officially."You awkwardly rubbed the back of your neck.
"...I got lost you see." You looked down at your fingers in embarrassment.
"I accidentally ended up on the practice floor." You laughed nervously. "I stupidly ran into bts and instead of walking away like a normal person I kind of froze when Jimin-ssi made conversation with me..." This wasn't helping your case at trying to seem professional and not like an overly obsessed fan..
Her eyebrows rose higher.
"They helped me find the canteen and we got talking on the way there...Jungkook happened to mention it." "I promise I wasn't trying to ask questions I shouldn't.
For a second, Minji simply stared at you. And a few moments later she laughed softly "The boys really are too kind." She shook her head fondly. "They've always had a habit of looking after new staff." Her smile gradually softened.
Hearing her words left you slightly disappointed. You knew you shouldn't be, you knew you weren't anything remotely close to special. But even so, that interaction earlier made you at least just believe that your life was a little more interesting that it actually was
"-But I'd like you to remember something." Her words snapped you from your thoughts.
You straightened slightly.
"They're incredibly friendly. They'll joke with you, they'll help you if you're lost... They'll probably make you feel like you've known them for years." She folded her hands neatly together. "But they're still your artists...So just be careful not to lean on that kindness too much."
Her smile was still held high on her face. "It can become very easy to forget where the professional boundary is."
You answered almost immediately. "I would never do that." You shook your head. "They've already done far more for me today than they ever needed to." "I don't want them to think I'm taking advantage of them."
Minji held your gaze for another moment before a warm smile slowly spread across her face. "I thought you'd say that."
She reached over, closing the folder with a soft tap. "And that's exactly why I felt comfortable assigning you to Jungkook-ssi!" She had now gone back to being the delightful jokey woman she was when you had first met her.
"Okay then Y/n!" She stated as she lifted the big folder back into her arms. "Your meeting schedule will be emailed to you personally by me this week. We expect very highly for you to be at every single one of those." She gave you another overly exaggerated smile and clicked the door shut in a swoop, leaving you now alone again for the rest of the day.

The rest of the afternoon passed far more peacefully
Your inbox gradually became less overwhelming as you worked through the seemingly endless list of unread emails. Most of them were introductions from different departments, reminders about internal systems, staff newsletters and upcoming schedules that you'd need to familiarise yourself with over the next few weeks.
Every now and then you'd click into Jungkook's upcoming appointments, carefully reading through the timetable that would soon become part of your own daily routine.
You didn't even know that you had to know literally every.single.detail. About this man now.
Minji had now emailed you his schedule for the next week, with a little note attached to the email,
You sighed before opening up the attachment.

Fuck. That was one heck of a schedule. "No wonder everyone looked exhausted..." you murmured to yourself.
You felt a slight heat rush to your cheeks as you realised that you would be spending nearly every day with Jungkook. You shook the thought out of your head, not really wanting to overthink the situation.. you didn't even know if you guys would even make conversation.
You took a big deep breath and pressed open a new tab,
If you were going to spend most of your days in this little office, you couldn't leave it looking like an interrogation room.
Within minutes, your basket was slowly beginning to fill.
A few plants, cute framed pictures, a new lamp, some random decorations, some storage baskets..Much better.
The room was slowly beginning to take shape in your imagination.
Eventually, curiosity got the better of you.
You found yourself browsing makeup references, studying runway looks, editorial concepts and recent Korean beauty trends. You created a folder filled with inspiration, everything from soft natural skin to dramatic stage makeup, glitter placements and bold graphic eyeliner.
Even though you knew BTS already had established concepts prepared by the creative directors...
It never hurt to gather ideas.
Time slipped away almost without you noticing.
Before you knew it, the warm afternoon sunlight pouring through the window had softened into the golden glow of early evening.
You glanced at the clock resting in the corner of your computer screen.
Your first day was officially over.
You packed your notebook into your bag before carefully shutting down your laptop.
One final glance around the office made a small smile appear on your face.
After locking the door behind you, you made your way towards the elevators, employees from different floors also packed into the elevator. A few of them chatted quietly as the elevator slowly made it's stop at the final destination
The lobby was just as impressive as it had been that morning.
Floor-to-ceiling windows reflected the orange evening sky, while employees steadily filtered out through the revolving doors.
Waiting outside, just as promised, was another sleek black luxury van.
The driver recognised your company lanyard almost immediately.
He politely opened the sliding door for you before loading your bag into the seat beside you.
The journey back to the hotel felt strangely quiet. A feeling of relaxation and accomplishment filtered through you as you leant your head back onto the leather head rest
You barely waited until the van pulled up outside the hotel before reaching for your phone.
The screen lit up with one contact you knew had been waiting all day.
With no hesitation you hit call, It barely rang once.
"Yah!" Ha-Na answered almost immediately. "Finally! I've been waiting all day!"
You couldn't help laughing.
Her excitement practically exploded through the speaker.
You smiled as you leaned back against the seat. "...You're not going to believe the day I've had."
You thanked the driver still with one of your hands holding the phone to your ear, walking quickly back into your hotel as you began explaining everything to Ha-Na.

You let out a tired groan, blindly reaching across the bedside table until your hand finally found your phone.
"...You've got to be kidding me."
You buried your face back into the pillow for another few seconds, trying to convince yourself that maybe, somehow, you'd imagined the alarm.
Unfortunately, reality didn't seem interested in negotiating. With another dramatic sigh, you forced yourself upright.
Sunlight spilled through the gaps in the curtains, casting a soft golden glow across the room. Seoul was already awake, the muffled sounds of traffic drifting up from the streets below.
Today was your firstย realย day. The thought alone was enough to wake you up completely.
Your stomach fluttered with a mixture of nerves and excitement as you climbed out of bed, stretching your aching limbs before wandering into the bathroom.
The warm shower did wonders for clearing your head.
By the time you stepped back out twenty minutes later, wrapped in a fluffy white towel with steam still lingering around the mirror, you already felt far more prepared than you had the previous morning.
You kept your outfit simple.
A pair of black baggy shorts, clean white trainers and an oversized white graphic tee. You did previously ask Minji if you needed to dress the business part, but she told you not to worry about it as you weren't actually in the business department... that made you happy
After drying your hair into its natural style and applying only the lightest amount of makeup, you glanced at yourself in the mirror one final time.
"Presentable". You smiled.
Grabbing your work bag, you slipped your company lanyard inside one of the pockets before heading downstairs.
The hotel lobby was noticeably quieter than it had been the evening before.
A few business travellers sat nursing coffees while reception staff quietly greeted guests checking out.
Outside, the familiar black luxury van was already waiting by the entrance.
The driver recognised you immediately. "Good morning."
"Good morning." You returned the polite greeting before climbing inside.
The drive to HYBE felt much shorter this time.
Perhaps because your mind was too occupied rehearsing everything Minji had told you yesterday.
Before long, the van pulled smoothly into the underground parking area.
After thanking the driver, you stepped out and made your way through the familiar entrance, flashing your access card as you entered the building.
The lobby was very much already alive with employees arriving for the day.
Some hurried towards the lifts with takeaway coffees balanced in one hand and laptops in the other, while others chatted quietly before disappearing down different corridors.
You found yourself smiling. Yesterday, this building had felt impossibly intimidating. But now already you had familiarised yourself with it.
You rode the lift up to your floor, dropped your bag off in your office and switched on your laptop.
Still twenty-seven minutes untill you had to go to the makeup room
You checked your reflection one last time in the dark computer screen before straightening the notebook resting on your desk.
At exactlyย 07:35, you stood.
Minji had been very clear. The makeup team always arrived early.
Artists were expected to be ready before the members walked through the door.
You grabbed your notebook and headed back into the corridor. Thankfully, you now knew where your department was at.. and you weren't about to get lost and stumble and disrupt another practise dance room.
The makeup department occupied one side of an entire floor
You pushed the door open. Immediately, the atmosphere changed. The nerves where creeping in already, you didn't know what to do, who to talk too, what to say?
You took in the room for second,
Large vanity mirrors lined one wall, each framed by bright white bulbs that illuminated every corner of the room. Makeup cases sat neatly organised beside every station, filled with brushes, palettes and products you recognised from years of studying the industry.
Several stylists were already busy laying out products, disinfecting brushes and checking printed schedules clipped beside each mirror.
Everyone seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Except you, of course.. again..
"Y/N." You turned to find Minji walking towards you, coffee in hand.
"Good morning." She flashed you a bright white smile.
"Good morning, Minji-ssi." You bowed your head slightly. This woman really was your saviour..
"Right on time." She spoke taking a sip from her takeaway coffee
"I didn't want to be late." You smiled awkwardly
"A good habit." She nodded approvingly before gesturing towards one of the stations. "This morning you'll simply be shadowing."
Relief washed over you.. kind of?
"You won't be applying anyone's makeup today." She took another coffee from an employee's hand and passed it to you. The employer simply bowed his head slightly towards you and walked off.
"I've arranged for you to observe Sohee." She passed the drink to you. "I hope you like coffee!" She smiled again.
You took the cup out of her hand and nodded, following Minji's gaze towards a woman in her early thirties who was carefully arranging an impressive collection of brushes into neat rows across the counter.
"She's one of our senior makeup artists." She spoke as you both made way towards the woman. "Sohee knows Jungkook-ssi's routine inside out...For the next few days, I just want you to watch."
"Pay attention to how she prepares the products." Minji picked up a makeup brush from the floor and placed it back into a pot. "Notice how she communicates." "How quickly she works."
Minji looked back at you. "Watching is just as important as doing for now."
You nodded earnestly. "I understand."
The older woman looked up from her station before offering you a welcoming smile. "So you're Y/N."
You nodded and bowed your head slightly. "Nice to meet you"
"I'm Sohee." She returned your greeting, "It's nice to finally meet you too."
She gestured towards the chair beside her workstation. "Come." "You'll have the best view from here."
You settled onto the stool, taking out your notebook from your bag and holding it onto your lap
You glanced at the clock mounted above the doorway.
07:43. Only two minutes to go.
Almost on cue, the sound of footsteps echoed from somewhere out in the corridor.
You recognised a few familiar faces as the managers entered the room first, greeting the staff members already preparing for the day.
And then, they followed in.
You couldn't stop the small smile that pulled at your lips.
Despite everything you had seen online, despite all the interviews and behind-the-scenes videos, seeing them walk into the room like this felt completely different.
They walked in one by one, some rubbing their eyes, others covering quiet yawns as they stretched their shoulders and adjusted their jackets.
You and Sohee remained towards the corner of the room, away from the busiest stations. Because of the distance and the number of staff moving around, you didn't get the chance to properly greet everyone.
Jin, Yoongi and Jimin immediately settled into the stations closest to the entrance, already being greeted by their respective staff members.
Hoseok noticed you almost instantly, A bright smile appeared on his face as he lifted his hand in a small wave before taking his seat.
You returned the gesture with a small smile and an awkward wave.
A few seconds later, Jimin also caught your eye.
Since you had met yesterday, he gave you a familiar smile, but with the amount of people moving around and the distance between your stations, neither of you had a natural reason to start a conversation.
So, instead, you both simply exchanged polite smiles before he sat down beside Hoseok.
Then came Taehyung and Jungkook who walked in carrying conversation between them.
The two walked towards your side of the room, their conversations quiet as they approached their stations.
"Aish..." Jungkook sighed dramatically as he dropped into the chair directly in front of you. "I'm too tired for this."
A laugh immediately escaped Taehyung. "It's because you're always awake until stupid hours playing games." He shook his head, clearly amused.
Jungkook groaned, leaning back into the chair.
"It is exactly the reason."
You sat completely still. For a few seconds, you almost forgot how to act.
Sohee had moved a little further away to speak with Jimin's makeup artist, leaving you alone with the two members.
Your brain immediately started overthinking. Should you say something? Would it be weird?
Were you supposed to greet Taehyung too?
You had spoken with Jungkook and a few of the others yesterday, but Taehyung hadn't been part of that conversation.
You assumed he probably had no idea who you were.
The last thing you wanted was to awkwardly introduce yourself when he had no reason to know you yet.
Your thoughts were interrupted.
"Y/N." Jungkook's voice pulled your attention back.
Almost immediately, you noticed Taehyung's head turned slightly in your direction.
You tried not to look into his direction. It would be too awkward right now,
"Good morning." Your voice came out softe, and probably more awkward than you intended. You sat up straighter, perhaps a little too straight. There was no chance you were going to be caught slouching in front of them.
Jungkook smiled slightly. "Did you find out more about your work yesterday?"
You relaxed slightly at the normality of the question. "Yes." A small smile appeared on your face. "I have my schedule now."
"Ah, I'm glad." He briefly lifted his eyes from his phone before looking back down again. "So you'll be taking over for Jimin?"
Your expression froze. "Oh..." You opened your mouth. "Well, no, actuallyโ"
"Good morning, Jungkook-ah." Sohee's voice interrupted you as she pulled over a stool beside him.
Jungkook immediately placed his phone down and smiled. "Good morning, Sohee."
"Good morning, Sohee!" Taehyung suddenly called from beside them.
Sohee paused halfway through preparing her products and turned around. A small smile appeared on her face. "Ah, Taehyung."
She turned her head back to Jungkook "Good morning." she spoke slightly louder, greeting taehyung from the back of her head
Then she continued arranging her products. "Yejin is on her way." she continued speaking to Taehyung as she placed small hair clips in Jungkook's hair. "So don't worry."
Taehyung let out a relieved sigh before dramatically sinking further into his chair. "So tired..."
You couldn't help quietly smiling at the interaction. There was such an obvious familiarity between them. Years of working together showed in small moments like this.
Sohee turned her attention back towards Jungkook, beginning to prepare his skin before makeup.
Then, as if remembering something, she looked between the two of you. "Have you met?" She glanced between you and him
Jungkook nodded."Yes, we met yesterday."
"Ah, I see." Sohee nodded, accepting the answer easily. "No need for introductions then."
She looked towards you. "Y/n will be your soon new makeup artist."
The words still felt strange hearing someone else say them.
"She's here today to shadow me, and once she's comfortable, she'll gradually begin taking over." Sohee's tone was professional, but there was a calm confidence behind it.
Jungkook looked up at you. "O?" He blinked once. "Ah..." "I see." Then his expression softened into a small smile. "I hope we work well together."
Your nerves eased slightly. You returned the smile.
