Making a lesbian character say weird ooc dick jokes constantly
Appropriating the rainbow symbol from queer culture only to proceed on doing torture porn on the gay character that they created and give him the first slow burn rejection in the world
Main gay character can't even kiss his fake epilogue boyfriend made up by his real future husband (after he gets fustigated 50 times)
They didn't even bother to cast an epilogue boyfriend actor with actual chemistry with Will so they don't even look like boyfriends
Only bisexual character in the show disappeared with no explanations after making her the focus of multiple romantic moments with Robin and was also introduced with zero purpose outside of being a romantic interest in the first place
Mike Wheeler's closet blown into pieces while they were well aware of Byler being the biggest ship in the show, and he doesn't even say I love you to his girlfriend who he treated like shit for no reason other than random drama
Using the feelings of a queer character to resolve the problem of a straight relationship that is doomed anyway in the finale, then diminishing the depth of queer love while propping love born by A TRAUMA BOND between Mike and El that suddenly always "understand each other" when they do not in the previous seasons multiple times... Then keeping the queerbait at maximum level until the last moment possible by never doing anything more than platonic between the straights until the finale
Why does every characters envisioned future have something to do with them personally and who they are. It focuses on their interests and what makes them happy. But for Will all we get is “uh yeah he goes to gay bars and men think he’s really hot”. Like, it has nothing to do with his art or anything ?? Why are gay people ALWAYS narrowed down to their PERSONALITY being their SEXUALITY oh my god
The van scene was pure artificial lighting, so basically they went out of their way to give Mike and Will heart eyes for no reason.
Mike couldn't say "I love you" to Jane even in season 5 so that entire plotline was not only useless to begin with but also they totally diminished Mike's monologue for no reason.
Memories of Mike made Will love himself again and helped him gain access to his powers for no reason.
Will got hope that he could date Mike in volume 1 despite giving him up already in season 4, so the whole thing with him asking Robin for advice was for no reason.
Mike couldn't hug Will at the airport in season 4. For. No. Fucking. Reason.
and when mike and will finally have their talk in the finale and will says that he lied and it wasn’t just a crush and that he’s in love with him but it’s ok if mike doesn’t love him back and mike says i can’t believe you ever though i was your tammy
how i see it is that Will is starting to give up in hoping his feelings are reciprocated NOT that the duffers brothers telling us that WE should give up hope.
we still have one episode 2 hours long, anything can happen.
I think the funniest part of the coming out scene is when Will says he doesn't like girls and Mike has a full body reaction and Lucas is about to look into the camera like he's on the office.
Like that is the face of man whose been knowing this shit for a while. He was NOT at all surprised.
So, after watching vol. 2, I felt the same exact way as a lot of you are feeling. Disappointed. Not only at the fact that Mike and Will barely interacted, besides the hug at the beginning of ep. 5, but because it seemed like they just brushed Will’s feelings for Mike off on Wills coming out speech. And that’s 100% understandable, to feel like all this build up was for nothing, that they just queerbated an entire audience for years.
However, after really thinking about it, something felt off. Specifically, where they chose to put Will’s coming out in the storyline. I liked the scene itself, Noah’s acting was incredible, and overall it was a good representation of how nerve wracking it can be to come out, especially in the 80’s in a room filled with at least 15 people. (I didn’t like the fact that Will’s fear of Vecna forced him to come out, but that’s a rant for another time lmao) But, it bothered me how rushed it felt, like they just threw the scene in after someone reminded them about the fact that Will is gay. But I think that’s international. Not only the placement of the scene, but the feelings surrounding it.
From a storytelling perspective, a coming out scene like that would usually be left for the finale, to not only close the chapter on Will’s feelings with Mike, but to give a sense of completeness to his character arc as a whole.
Instead of doing that, though, they put it in the episode before the finale. Why? Well, if you pay close attention to Mike’s body language, when Will says that he doesn’t like girls, Mike sits up, looking actively interested and hopeful. And when Will says that his crush wasn’t like him, Mike looked like he wanted to argue, but stopped himself before he could. They put this scene here not to dismiss byler, but to show both Mikes reaction to the situation, and to give Mike a reason to feel comfortable coming out.
So, stay strong and don’t loose hope. Remember, byler is supposed be a plot twist, so it would make sense to leave it for the finale. 💙💛
