Cocteau Twins | The Moon and the Melodies | CD
The Cocteau Twins' 4th studio album was released on 14 April 1986.
Victorialand was recorded without bassist Simon Raymonde (who was busy working on the This Mortal Coil album, Filigree & Shadow), so Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie recorded as a duo (with Guthrie providing all the instrumentation).
The album's title refers to a region of Antarctica and some of the songs' titles and lyrics are taken from books about the polar regions (as well as some non-English sources).
Victorialand peaked at #10 in the UK (their highest chart position to that time) but failed to chart in the US.
