Even at a young age Dream believed in forever. She was taught to hold the people she loved close and never let them go. She knew her parents would never leave her they were her parents.
But she always feared her friends moving on and leaving her. Especially Jack, she never wanted to lose him. She had just got out of school sitting in the back of her dadโs car as he drove her to dance class. โPapรฌ.โ She looked out the window of the backseat watching the raindrops fall on the window.
โYes princesa.โ He gave her a quick glance as he focused on the road. โCan I get married.โ He felt all the color drain from his face. She was still his little girl and the thought of her getting married and talking about it so soon shocked him. โNo.โ He spoke quickly shaking his head quickly.
โWhy not.โ Her tone came out as a whine, her bottom lip poking out. He tried to contain his laughter still trying to let her know he was serious. โYou will never ever get married.โ She huffed and crossed her arms over her chest.
โBut I want to marry jack.โ His laugh he was trying to hold in finally escaped. His daughter tilted his head at her not understanding why he was laughing. He looked back at her and realized she was serious.
โOh, whyโs that.โ He loved how kind and loving his daughter was. He knew he always made jokes about her and Jack getting married but he never realized how serious it could be. Jack was always over and he saw the little boy as his son.
He knew that jack would hold on to her as long as he could and so would dream. But the thought that dream wanted to marry him was surprising. โSo we could be together forever.โ She smiled at the idea playing with her hair.
โMarriage isnโt just about being together forever hija itโs about being in love.โ He told her pulling in the parking lot of her dance studio. He turned off the car and got out opening the door for his daughter, helping her out. โI love jack.โ She replied grabbing his hand as they walked in the building.
โLoving him and being in love with him is not the same thing.โ He shook his head and helped her out her coat. Hanging it up on the hook and helping her take off her shoes. โIโm going to marry him.โ She said brightly giving a kiss on the cheek racing out the lobby into the room her class was being held.
โIf you say so hija.โ He said more so to himself know that his daughter because she couldnโt hear him.
Marco couldnโt remember at time in the last few years where he didnโt feel sick. He never understood why. But when Isabella all but forced him to go get a check up he found his why.
Marco had cancer and his first thought was dream. How would she react when she found out? Would he get to see her grow up? Once the doctor told him what is was it seemed like everything around him turned into white noise.
He saw him talking but he couldnโt hear anything. Isabella was no better she was sitting right next to him, missing her shift at the restaurant. Once they made it home all Marco do was stare at the floor.
Isabella tried her best to reassure him that everything would be okay. It was only stage two they could fight this but like back at the doctors office he couldnโt hear her. She asked Maggie to pick dream up from school, telling her she would explain later.
Once he heard the front door close and listened to the little footsteps making there was into the kitchen he snapped back into reality. โHi mamรญ why arenโt you at work.โ She sat her backpack on the kitchen table looking at her mother standing behind her sitting father.
โWhy donโt you sit down dream.โ She did have to be a genius to see her parents looked upset. As far back in her memory as dream could go she never seen them look so sad. โAm I in trouble if so Jack told me to do it.โ If they had any strength to laugh at there daughter they would have.
โNo princesa your not in trouble.โ She looked between the both of them before finally pulling out a chair to sit. โOkay then whatโs wrong?โ She saw the way her mothers eyes filled with tears. The way her father eyes never left her own. โPapรฌโs isโฆ um-โ Her mother spoke up but stop shortly after. Not being able to find the right words.
โIโm sick dream.โ She looked at Marco suspiciously almost as if she was studying him. โYou donโt look sick.โ He sighed softly, closing his eyes for a few moments. There was no guide book on how to tell your kid that you have cancer.
โItโs not like a regular cold baby.โ Her mother spoke up giving Marcoโs shoulders a gentle rub. โThen what is it?โ She didnโt understand and honestly no one suspected her to. She was just a little kid after all. โItโs the kinda of sick where he might not get better.โ Isabella told her gently.
โThe kind of sick mamรญโs Papรฌ had.โ Isabella didnโt tell dream much about her parents only that her father had cancer and mother died of another kind of sickness. Dream really didnโt understand what any of that meant. โYou have cancer.โ It didnโt come out as a question more like a statement like she was finally understanding.
Marco didnโt have the heart to tell her yes so he just nodded his head instead. โYour going to die?โ Both her parents eyes double in size at her question. โNo, no oneโs saying that.โ Her mother rushed out.
โBut that what happens right people get cancer and they die.โ She sounded nothing they knew their daughter to sound like. She sounded so hallow and empty. โI could get better.โ They watch as dreams eyes filled with tears. Threatening to spill down her face.
โWhat if you donโt what if you die and-.โ Marco saw the way her breath quickened as if she was choking on her own air. โCome here.โ He reached over as she rushed into his arms holding on for dear life. โIโm not going to die dream.โ He softly calmed the sobbing girl in his arms.
โPromise?โ She asked through broken sobs. He tried not to tense, he looked up at his wife who shook her head all but begging him not to answer. โI promise.โ Isabella went to say something but stop once she noticed the way he looked at her.
They didnโt know what was going to happen to him but he saw no reason in scaring Dream more than he needed to.
โIโm never going to leave you Dream.โ
Jack knew one thing for sure at ten years old. Dream was going to be in his life forever, and he would always keep it that way. Dream was all Jack could wish for in a friend and having urban with them the trio never split up.
They were together everyday at school and almost every day after school. That was until Dream met Ashley. Who she would be with most of the time at recess and during class. The only time they got to hangout with her was after school unless she had dance class.
Which she had most days, oh yeah and Ashley was in that too. He found the times he spent with dream by himself fading away as well. โHey guys.โ He turned around slightly to see dream walking over to him and urban as he stood by his locker.
They both ignored her approaching presence as they continued there small talk conversation. โUm hello did you not hear me.โ She taped Jackโs shoulder once she finally reached him.
โDid you hear something urb.โ He asked pulling his backpack out his locker. Placing a few notebooks inside. โNope you.โ Jack just shook his head closing his backpack and stood up throwing it over his shoulder. โDonโt be mean to me Iโm right here.โ
Her eyebrows furrowed at her friends confused what she had done. They had never treated her so cold before. โOh now you want to talk to us.โ Jack asked her turning around to face her. Urban standing slightly behind him watching the argument unfold.
โI always want to talk to you guys.โ She laughed at the two. โCouldโve fooled us.โ He pushed past her staring his journey to the front of the school urban and dream trailing behind. โWhat do you mean?โ When dream didnโt understand something she got upset.
Which jack knew and he continued to push her buttons anyway. โWhereโs your new best friend?โ Once they made it outside on the sidewalk to wait for there parents he faced her.
โWho Ashley? I donโt know.โ He could tell by the way she was looking at him she was getting mad. โOh so you admit youโve replaced us.โ He yelled at her causing all the other kids around them to look.
โWhat no I didnโt!โ Urban looked back and forth between the two nervously. Dream and Jack didnโt fight often or at all really. So watching them yell at each other like this was weird.
โYes you did go hang out with her.โ He rolled his eyes at her. She stood there for a few seconds glaring at him. โFine I will.โ She huffed and stormed away from the pair getting into the back of her moms car before pulling off.
โDo you think you were a little too mean to her?โ Urban spoke up as he looked at his best friend. As he watched dreams car move farther away in the distance. โNo.โ He answered he was upset he was being replaced.
โSheโs just making a new friend jack and plus she probably feels out numbered. She just might want a friend thatโs a girl.โ She tried to reason with his upset friend. โWhatever.โ
โDude.โ He spoke through out laughs. โWhatโ He was confused why urban was laughing at him. โYour jealous.โ He poked his arm as Jackโs eyes widened. โNo Iโm not.โ He rushed out. He just missed his friend why was that so hard for everybody to understand.
โDo you like her?โ He whispered make sure no one was listening to him. โWhat no like dream thatโs gross.โ He shivered at the thought with a look of disgust on his face. โYou do!โ He yelled out a little louder than intended.
โNo I donโt so shut up.โ He snapped. Gripping the straps of his backpack. Jack like dream what no never. She was his friend and always would be, Nothing more.
Not that Jack regretted his choice by picking a fight with dream but he wasnโt happy. It had only been a couple days since they talked but he missed her. She avoided him in the hallways and even at home.
Urban had been begging him to apologize but he didnโt really know how. She hurt his feelings and sure he didnโt have to go and start a fight but he was mad. He finally had enough and decided that he man up and talk to her.
She was sitting on the steps of her front porch, picking the petals off a flower. He walked over sitting beside her, placing his backpack right next to him. โHey.โ He hesitantly spoke up after awhile.
โOh your talking to me now.โ She turned to look at him rolling her eyes once she saw his sheepish face. โIโm sorry I was mean.โ She looked at him angrily for a few seconds before she finally released a sigh. She didnโt like being mad at him. It not like she was a lot.
But it didnโt change the fact that she missed him. โYou hurt my feelings.โ Her head fell to rest on his shoulder. He wrapped one of his arms around her pulling her into a side hug. โI know I didnโt mean it.โ
โI wonโt hang out with Ashley anymore if you and urby donโt want me to.โ Dream really was a loyal friend, he knew that. Anything jack needed or asked her to do she would, but you wouldnโt see that until later.
โNo itโs fine, We just miss you.โ She smiled softly at this. She missed them to. She never really had a girl that was a friend before, so when she met Ashley and she liked the same things Dream did she just had to be her friend.
Her goal wasnโt to hurt her best friends but Jack and urban really didnโt understand her love for dance and she couldnโt blame them. She knew they tried their best. โHow about we all hangout together sheโs really cool you guys would like her.โ He just nodded.
He didnโt like the thought of sharing Dream. He already had to do it with urban so adding someone else would only cut his time with her down more. But if it was what she wanted he would try. โI got you something.โ He spoke up after awhile of sitting in silence. He pulled away for her and went to open his backpack.
โWhat is it?โ He could see the excitement rolling off of her. He hid the present to his side a little, making sure she couldnโt see. โClose your eyes.โ She did and held out her eyes for good measure. He placed the gift in her hands.
โOkay open.โ Once she did she saw a medium sized pink stuffed bunny. She stared at for a few seconds taking it in. โDo you like it?โ To be quite honest he had never seen dream so quiet. โI love it!โ She pulled him into a hug holding on tightly. Everything was finally right again.
โI thought you had early dance class?โ Jack mumbled turning away from the energetic girl jumping on his bed, throwing the blanket over his head. โIt got cancelled.โ She cheerfully said pulling the blanket off his face. She leaned over poking him. โStop that.โ He grumbled trying to grab his blanket. Her vice grip on it making it difficult.
โCome on you said I could show you my new costume for my competition.โ She ripped the blanket all the way off him. โWhat time is it?โ He asked her rubbing the sleep from his eyes. โAlmost noon.โ She reached over to his nightstand handing him his glasses.
โHow did you even get in here?โ He grabbed his glasses from her placing them on his face. โThe window.โ She mumbled looking down slightly. His eyes transfixed on his open window looking back at dream. โI thought your mom told you to stop using the tree to climb from your house to mine?โ Jack laughed getting out of bed, to put on pair of shoes.
โSheโs went to work early at the restaurant I seized my opportunity.โ She shrugged climbing on his bed to the open window. โShe going to the competition?โ Meeting her on the bed following behind her as she stuck her body out the window climbing on the strong branches. โShe better she promised. She already missed seven of them.โ She walked along one of the branches carefully grabbing on to a few as she made into her room.
Jack sighed at that he knew that Isabella loved seeing dream dance. Itโs why she signed her up at three years old. He knew she didnโt like missing them but the restaurant had got busy lately seeing as they were short staffed. โYou know she tryโs Dream.โ He told her as he took her outreached hand helping him off the tree and in her room.
โNot hard enough.โ She rolled her eyes walking over to the black dress hanging on the back of her door to her bathroom. โItโs always the same excuse โSueรฑito lo siento mucho Sabes que mamรก lo hace lo mejor que puede, irรฉ al siguiente.โ Like come on change it up once.โ She shook her head grabbing the dress walking inside the bathroom cracking the door, so they could still talk.
Jack laughed at her taking a seat on her bed. โYou know you sounded just like her right then.โ He heard her giggle from behind the wooden white door giving him a funny feeling in his stomach which he just shook off. He had been getting that a lot recently around dream which he didnโt fully understand. Which is why he ignored it.
โItโs kinda easy when she says it to you seven times in a row.โ He heard an unzipping noise meaning she mustโve just now starting to put on the costume. โWould you hurry up Iโm bored.โ He got up grabbing a basketball from the other side of the room. He sat back down tossing it up in the air and catching it. โWould you shut up Iโm going as fast as I can.โ She spoke zipping up the dress and opening the door walking out.
His concentration on the basketball seised not bothering to catch it as he looked at her. Making the ball fall to the ground bouncing a couple of times as his eyes never left her. Dream wasnโt a girly girl the only time she ever dressed like one was for a dance competition or something important. Most of the time itโs was baggy pants and hoodies.
Jack thought she was pretty either way I mean sheโs his best friend. But right now there was something about his usually Tom boy friend wearing the most beautiful thing he had ever seen her wear that made that feeling in his stomach come back. โWhat do you think, youโve been starring for awhile I look like an idiot donโt I?โ She asked slowly shifting her weight from one foot to the next.
He shook his head quickly trying to talk over the lump in his throat. โNo you justโฆum you lookโฆโ He couldnโt find the word he was looking for it was like all the words in the world had left his brain. โGeez Jack do I look that bad?โ Her head fell looking at her sock covered feet. โN..No you look beauโฆbeautiful D.โ Something about they way he stuttered made her look at him.
โThanks.โ She smiled shyly to him. Walking over to sit next to him. โAshley told me that Avery kissed her yesterday at school.โ She blurted out to him making his head snap up to her. โNo way.โ He gasped out eyes widening. โYeah apparently it sucked.โ She giggled making him crack a smile. โSeriously?โ He questioned shaking his head. โYeah she said he kissed like a frog.โ Dream grimaced.
The statement made jack wince. โGod I hope I donโt kiss like that.โ He shook his head looking at the baby pink walls of her room. โYou wanna see?โ She asked him looking at the side of his face. โWhat do you mean?โ He gave her a confused look. โYou can kiss me and Iโll tell you.โ She shrugged like it was no big deal.
Which made Jack jump out of his seat standing in front of her. โWhat!โ This was a huge deal to Jack. He had never kissed anyone before and neither had dream. โI canโt kiss you that weird!โ He whispered shouted to her not knowing if her dad was home. โI donโt think so.โ Her eyebrows pulled together giving him a confused look. โDream youโre my best friend Iโm not kissing you.โ He shook his head pacing around the room.
โFine I guess youโll never know if you kiss like a frog then.โ She snickered walking back to the bathroom to change. Once she closed the door he didnโt understand why he felt this wave of sadness. He made right decisions she was his best friend he couldnโt kiss her. Right?
โWhat do you mean you canโt come!โ Dream screamed into the phone at her mom. โSueรฑito lo siento mucho Sabes que-โ Before Isabella could finish her sentence Her daughter cut her off. โNo youโre a liar! You promised youโd come itโs nationals! I hate you if you donโt come I will never ever talk to you again!โ She yelled seeing Maggieโs eyes widen as she finished the braid in dreams hair.
Jack just gulped as he sat next to her. Jack knew dream loved her mom deeply. But he also knew that she only did dance for her and even though he didnโt know significance to โnationalsโ he knew that only the best dancers got invited he knew it was a big deal. This would be her third time going and she had never one here before she always got beat out for first place by some girl named Stefani.
Ashley always came in third which she was fine with. No, dream was competitive she needed to beat Stefani even if it was only once. Eveytime she had always gone up against her (which was a lot seeing as they were the same age) she had always one. Dream hated it she hated her. She always rubbed dreams face in it.
โHija-โ Before Isabella could reply Dream hung up the phone giving it to Maggie. โDream..โ Maggie stammered off not really knowing what to say. โIs my dad here?โ Her voice quivered, her eyes welling up with tears as she looked at her self in the mirror in front of her. Maggieโs heart broke. Isabella had been working hard ever since they found out Marco had cancer. Insurance only covers so much and they had bills to pay.
She knew dream wouldnโt understand, she just wanted to make her parents proud. โYeah he out there waiting in the audience.โ She told her softly try to not make the little girl even sadder. โThank you for helping me get ready Maggieโฆ.again.โ She mumbled playing with her hands.
โNo problem sweetheartโฆwhy donโt me and Jack go wait with everybody else while you go over your dance you go on in thirty minutes.โ She smiled at the smaller girl pack up all dreams things. โIโm going to wait here with her.โ Jack told his mom watching dream put on her ballet shoes. โAre you sure?โ She asked unsure. โYeah Iโll go to the seats before she dances.โ He replied not really looking at his mom.
Which made her laugh softly. He looked completely mesmerized by his best friend who was wrapping her ribbons of her shoes around her legs. โOkay good luck dream.โ She nodded as Maggie dragged all Dreams stuff making her way to the audience to sit down.
Jack watched dream rerun her dance over hundred time as he kept replaying the music. Once her thirty minutes was up they walked back stage. They watched Stefaniโs dance on stage. They both had to admit she was good. Well better than good she was amazing.
He could tell dreamโs confidence was shook by the way she pulled at the ends of her dress. โHey you know youโre way better than her right?โ He grabbed her hand away from her dress trying to bring her attention to him.
Although her eyes were glued to the girl on the stage. โThen why does she beat me every time?โ Her tone was dry eyes following every move Stefani made. โSo weโll do something different this time to bring you good luck.โ He told her making her look at him. โLike what?โ her eyes rolling when she heard people began to clap when the music stopped.
โKiss me.โ He told her quickly looking over to the stage watching Stefani walk off looking back at dream who just looked at him blankly. She leaned up slightly kissing his cheek. Leaving a red kiss mark. โIโve done that before and I still lost to her.โ She spoke shanking her head at him.
She went to walk away waiting for them to call her name. When jack pulled her hand back causing her to be pulled closer to him. Before she could even speak to ask him what he was doing he grabbed her face with one hand and leaned and connected their lips. It was sweet simply kiss that only lasted five seconds. But dream knew one thing.
Jack did not kiss like a frog.
Once he pulled away that feeling in his stomach returned this time strong. โGood luck.โ He smiled and walked away from her. Going to sit in the audience. Dream stood there blinking not moving she looked towards the stage on the other side she saw a wide eyed Ashley with her mouth open.
When jack made it back to audience he sat next to Marco it being the only open seat. He looked over at the boy his eyes going to the red lipstick mark on his cheek. Which he didnโt think too much about. Untill his eyes fell to the lipstick on his lips. His eyes widened a bit.
โPlease welcome act number 76 Dream Santiago preforming dark hearts.โ The announcer spoke as dream walked on to the stage standing in the middle posing waiting for her music to start. His eyes fell to her face see the red lipstick on her lips.
This made him chuckle lightly as he reached into his Back pocket. Helping a blushing Jack wipe off the lipstick marks as best as he could. Jack however stayed looking at the stage watching Dream. He thought she looked amazing. Her turns were sharp. Her feet were pointed. Her legs looked long and straight. Her facial expressions were on point to the music and her jumps were high.
Now he didnโt know what half of those words meant. He just remembered dream told him all those things were important. Once she was done and walked off the stage everyone got off up and cheered for her. Before she could take in account what happened she was dragged away by a hyper Ashley.
โOh my god dude! You were amazing. Everything was perfect. Forgot all that sorry I tried you kissed jack!โ She yelled the last part making dream slap a hand over her mouth. โDude shush I donโt know he just kissed me.โ She whispered looking around seeing if anyone was staring at them.
โAre you guys like dating and didnโt tell me!โ Making dreams eyes go wide. โWhat! No I told him about you and Avery this morning and he said he hoped her didnโt kiss like that so I told him to kiss me he said no I let it go and then he kissed me to wish me good luck I guess.โ She rushed out all in one breath.
โWhat does this mean?โ Ashley asked her, her voice still low. โNothing weโre best friends it was just a good luck kiss, a make sure I donโt kiss like a frog kiss.โ She told her grabbing her hand walking to sit down in chairs backstage. โDid he?โshe leaned in.
โNo he definitely did notโ
After making small talk and Ashley bringing up Jack kissing dream at least five more times. It was time for them to go back on stage for their age division. Her , Ashley and Stefani were all in the 12 to 15 age category this year which in itself was hard for them. Last year they were in 8 to 11 they were the bigger kids it was easier for them to win.
Now they were the younger ones but all that Dream cared about was making the top ten. Stefani wasnโt even a factor in her mind. All she kept thinking about was the fact that jack had kissed her he said it would bring her good luck.
โThis is the scoring for our 12 to 15 age division, the will be crowned miss Starlight and receive five hundred dollars and will obviously be a national title holder and is automatically invited back to nationals next year.โ The crowd cheered as everyone got ready for them to announce the winners.
โIn tenth place number 64 Silence miss Ashley Moon.โ As her name was call she immediately looked at dream bringing her into a hug, before quickly getting up and getting her trophy standing in line waiting for the others to be called. As time passed more and more girl got call standing in line holding their trophyโs smiling.
โIn forth place, number 75 Cry miss Stefani Parks.โ Dream felt all the color leave her body. Stefani got fourth place. She always beat dream. Always, and now she got fourth place and Dream hadnโt been called yet. She didnโt place.
โOh noโฆpoor dream.โ Clay mumbled his face falling. Everyoneโs heart ached for the girl and even though she tried not to show it her own heart broke. They all slightly fell back in their seats. Well, except jack he sat the edge. He believed in her he knew that she was amazing.
He knew she could beat Stefani that she could beat everyone. To him dream was the best dancer that ever lived. Even though she was twelve years old. Hey cut him slack he was young he didnโt know any better.
Dream just sat there her hands playing with ribbons of her shoes not even looking up as third and second place were called. โAnd our first place overall in the 12 to 15 age division being crowned miss energy number 76 Dark heartsโฆ.Dream Santiago.โ
As soon as they said her number way before they even said her name Jack jumped out of his chair. โYES!โ Everyone else getting up cheering for her as well. She felt her heart drop and she snapped her head up to look at everyone looking at her. She quick got up walking to her place in line.
They placed a tiara on her head giving her a sash to wear. Placing a trophy right next to her that was taller than her. She couldnโt believe it she looked at the crowd seeing her dad, Maggie,Brian and clay standing clapping for her. Her eyes falling to jack who was now standing in his chair jumping up and down with the biggest smile on his face.
Seeing him made her smile even wider if that was possible. But is soon faltered slightly when she noticed her mom wasnโt there. She had missed her performance and she had missed her win. โLadies and gentlemen let give a round of applause to our winners.Take a bow girls.โ All the girl bowed on stage. Once the applause was done all the girls walked off stage.
Waiting for the next age division to receive there awards. Ashley ran up to dream grabbing her in a hug. โYou did it! You beat her.โ Dream laughed at her best friend. โGreat job you won to yโknow?โ She questioned pulling away from her. โYou know I donโt care about this stuff.โ She shrugged causing her friend to shake her head at her. โIโm gonna go find my moms good job dream!โ She yelled running off to the main room of the building.
As dream started to walking to go find her own family, dragging her heavy ass trophy against the ground seeing as she couldnโt carry it Stefani stopped her. โHeyโฆI just wanted to say good job it was about time you won.โ Giving her fake smile. โYou too itโs about time you lost white girl.โ Causing Stefani to scoff as dream just slow dragged her self and her trophy away.
It took about fifteen minutes to make it to the main room, having to stop now and then to catch her breath. Before she could even look around she was pushed on the ground someone jumping on top her rolling around on ground bringing her to a hug. โOuch.โ She landed on top of her attacker.
Then on holding on her tightly. โYou did it.โ Jack whispered to her him never letting go of her. โI thought you wanted to be a rapper not a football player.โ He rolled his eyes at her comment, he loosened his grip not completely letting go but making it easier for her to breathe. She looked down at him a lazy smile on his face.
โThank you.โ She told him sweetly pecking his cheek leaving a mark. โWโฆwhat di..did I do?โ His stuttering causing her to smile. โThe good luck.โ She replied kissing his other cheek. She got off him and dusted her self off and helping him up. โTheyโre my national winner.โ Hearing Marcoโs voice make her smile and turn around running into his arms.
He caught her picking her up wrapping his arms around her. โEstoy muy orgullosa de ti, princesa. Hiciste un trabajo increรญble.โHe whispered to her as a nine year old clay looked at his brothers face. โWhat happened to your face.โ His parents looked at their oldest son face amused making him blush.
Today was hands down best day of dreams life. Until it wasnโt.โDid mamรญ come?โ Dream asked the group making her father sigh. โIโm sorry princesa, no.โ Her smile fell as she tucked her bottom lip in between her teeth.
โHow about we all go to the restaurant and show her your win dream.โ Brian told her, making her slowly nod to him. โBut youโre carrying that.โ She pointed to her trophy grabbing clays hand and walking out. Jack chasing after them.
The car ride to restaurant was quiet jack and dream in Marcoโs car the other Harlowโs in their own. Once they made it Marco told the kids to wait in the car as he went in. They watched as he talk to host at the window before coming back out talking to Brian then getting in the car.
โCarmen said she left not that long ago to go see you dance, she might have just got there weโll meet her at home.โ She nodded at him as he made there way home the got out the car Marco putting the trophy in the living room for Isabella to see when she walked in.
Dream could tell you the exact day she realized true love wasnโt real. The way they painted it out in the story books, that shit didnโt happen in real life. Princesses werenโt perfect.
She thought they were, but after hearing her parents scream at each other for hours when she was supposed to be sleeping. She heard first hand that her mother wasnโt a princess she sounded like the evil queen. It was only a couple hours after her big win her mother just now getting home.
โIโm fucking tired Marco!โ She jumped at the sound of her mother yelling. Isabella always tried her hardest to save face in front of her daughter. She never needed dream to hear or see this.
โMi amor please just-.โ Marco sounded so tired. All the chemo and radiation treatments were taken a toll on him. He was exhausted and sick everyday. โDo not tell me to calm down.โ Her mother cut him off. She sounded so angry.
She curled up close to her window holding the stuffed pink bunny jack and gotten her for as an apology. Trying to decide if she should plan her escape or not. โCan we not fight.โ He sighed, his words coming out strained.
โWe never fight itโs always your to tired you just got back from the hospital, what about me what about what I want.โ She flinched at every word. Sure her mom yelled at her occasionally when she did something rebellious.
But in all her elven years, she had never seen her yell at her dad.โI donโt understand, I thought you had everything you wanted?โ His words came out as more of a question. She looked out her window, which was a straight across from Jackโs. A tree in the middle connecting the two.
To see if he was still awake. She didnโt know how late it was but he always made her feel better when she was sad. His light was off so she knew he was sleeping.โI donโt! We have everything you want you inconsiderate selfish bastard.โ Her eyes widened, this was not right.
โIsabel-โ This was not like her mother at all and by the tone of her fatherโs voice he noticed it too. Maybe she was stressed she had been working at the restaurant a lot more to cover Marcoโs hospital bills. Insurance only did so much.
โNo Marco I hate you.โ She sounded so cold. She was spitting her words out like they were venomous. โI hate this house.โ Dream was frozen to her bed in fear. She never thought she could ever be afraid of her mother until now.
โI hate this neighborhood.โ She heard the sound of things slamming against the wall. The sound of objects breaking. โI hate this life you forced me to have all because you wanted your stupid Sueรฑo americano.โ
โI hate our daught-.โ She stopped her own sentence with gasp. As dreams eyes filled with tears she remembered how quiet it got. She would never forget how quiet it got. Her mom hated her? The woman who brought her into this world hated her?
โYou want to blame me thatโs fine. You want to hate me for everything you agreed to, Vale, pero no te atrevas a traer mi el Sueรฑito a esta Isabella.โ Her father finally spoke up. His voice was stern but he still sounded in so much pain.
โElla es inocente, es perfecta y es lo รบnico bueno de lo verdaderamente malo en lo que te has convertido.โ Marco was already a very broken man. To him he was supposed to be strong and in charge and now he was sick and Isabella just broke him even more.
โMarco I didnโt-.โ Her father cut her off before she had the chance to continue a she did to him earlier. โEnough!โ He yelled, Marco wasnโt the yelling type he never raised his voice to anyone. โLeave.โ He sounded so out of breath. She just bet he looked so tired. โWhat?โ Her voice was low so low that dream wasnโt even sure she heard her.
โIf you donโt want this life, I forced you to have leave and never come back.โ She remembered the way the tears fell from her eyes after she tried for so long to hold them back. โIโm giving you the chance now go Isabella.โ
She packed up everything she had and she left. Dream watched as her mother pulled out of the driveway with no hesitation and she never came back.
She tucked the pink stuffed bunny under her arm and slowly walked out of her room. She tiptoed her way down the hall looking through the crack of her fatherโs door way. His face in his handโs and shoulders slightly shaking, she figured he was crying.
She looked around the room and saw all the broken glass and pictures frames adorned on the wooden floor. She slowly walked into the room stoping in front of her father. Clearing her throat to grab his attention.
He slowly looked up with his blood shot eyes watching his little girl giving him a bright smile. โDo you want to get ice cream?โ He laughed softly at his Dream nodding his head yes.
She took his hand in hers dragging him to stand and guiding him down the hall towards the kitchen. They sat there in a comfortable silence eating ice cream. Marco never asked her is she overheard the whole thing, he knew she did.
And no matter how long dream tried she would never forget that day. The day she realized true love didnโt exist.
