Victor Hugo is famous for writing Les Miserables and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but he was also a skilled artist who would use any material he had on hand - ink, charcoal, dust, coffee, and (according to rumor) blood - to create his drawings.

The AO3 Tag of the Day is: How else do you learn?
i KNOW there’s a reason they make paper specifically for watercolour but i still get shocked at how much easier it is to work with whenever i get my butt in gear and use proper paper for watercolour,,... i mean i’m still not good at blending and all that fancy stuff but i can tell from my attempts that if i knew how to do it, i would be able to on this paper. if that makes any sense
i have a habit of just doing everything in my sketchbook and it’s a bit of hit and miss with various mediums and different sketchbooks. the handbook travelogue worked great with watercolour but the seawhite travel sketchbook i currently use starts to pill if i try to blend, for example

simplified cityscape i did a few weeks ago! it’s a street here in gothenburg i took my own reference photo of :) this was one of the work samples i sent to the art school i got into! it clearly has massive flaws, and yes, i do simplified and stylized stuff because i cannot manage realistic stuff just yet BUT i got into the school so i’ll be learning a ton soon! i’m excited and wanted to share :)Â
Boris Groh is one of my favorite artists, mostly because of his works that feature LARGE skeletons just doing their thing
if there’s one thing i love, it’s motherfucking gashadokuro
i recently started my 6th sketchbook (ever, yes) and i’m noticing something. i feel like my worst isn’t as bad as it was six months ago? i don’t know if that makes any sense but i feel like my mistakes and flaws have leveled up ever so slightly. i am now a level 2 happy accident maker lmao
balcony drawing | channel plans | succulent in watercolour pencils
I’M BACK BABY
finally!!! in this one i’m drawing in the sunshine on my balcony and talking about my unwanted hiatus, my plans moving forward and how i make priorities in general :) hope you enjoy!!! xxx
ballpoint pen sketching! the pelicans are from photos but the person and the tram view are from LIFE wow. it’s hard to draw sitting on a tram because they shake and rattle a lot but i feel very cool when i do it
also! i’ve been thrown off my weekly youtube schedule because of life and health, but i will be back with a new video soon! hopefully this weekend if i feel a bit better, otherwise i might figure out another schedule or come up with another solution. i still have SO MUCH to share with the world don’t you worry about me putting my face away any time soon ^^ just hectic times in and around my body at the present time
art journey update
i just stabbed my finger on the nib of a dip pen and it’s bleeding
From the makers of the no-effort character checklist, I bring to you… The no-effort complete character sheet for lazy writers like you and me™!Â
Because the extra effort I put in staying up until 3 am to do put this together can save us all a lot of effort filling out longer character sheets ^^
You’re supposed to print it out and fold it in half to make a little booklet but you can save ink and do it on your computer :P

i decided on a whim a few days ago, very last minute, to apply to an art school and i just found out that i got in?????? welp

writing warm up: why i love writing
write a list of the things you love about writing.
i think this is fun because it’s easy to forget when you’re in the middle of something, and it’s hard, to remember why you’re doing it. i like this exercise because it grounds me in more positive feelings before i go into a writing session. writing is hard work and there’s no getting around that, this just helps remind me that the struggles are worth it.
