EYEROLL so im in the middle of the aero planes my ass is botw-ing it up and im THINKING real hard and i know this'll probably get disproven or whatever at the wrapup of this mini-arc w sparck and the nimbari and shit but im (points at my comic) im literally going batshit insane. the lesson in neumia is just. who lives/dies a villain and who lives/dies a hero is so arbitrary . . fuckin bat and yw PROBABLY (?) have the same goal still but bat's getting all dungeoned and yw is still free reasonably considered good by most people . but even then yw is still treated like a greedy ass monster by the more militant sects of nimbari life just for the crime of wielding shadow magic !!!! and sparcks goddamn parents !!!!! i have a hunch they both in some way were fighting against sm corruption from within but sparcks mom was remembered as a hero and sparcks dad was remembered as a villain. even when theres a good chance they were both working towards the same goal. none of it matters !!!!!!!!!!! wtf

-i think he was originally put into storm magic when he and ione first arrived at the arcanum because that's like, sort of nimbus's whole deal, but storm magic was always kind of slippery for him. eventually he showed more of an affinity for balance and that became his school of focus.
-he got into engineering partially because of what little he remembered of his father, but mostly because of ignus. i like to think ignus took sparck and ione under his wing because he's from empyrea too. in this ravenwood bulletin it says he likes to tinker and i think he passed that love of building onto sparck.
-he fixes up the virga lab after the end of empyrea! after his father's name is cleared the vicereine gives him the green light to do whatever he wants with the lab. pork and beans stop by to help him with the restoration because i refuse to believe that these characters never interact again after arc 3 is over. they're buddies! also if i had it my way there'd be a sidequest taking us back to empyrea to lend a hand with the virga lab as well. too bad kingsisle is afraid of another malistaire scenario
-connected to that thought on the virga lab, i think he manages to recover a few more recordings of keras and it helps him feel a little closer to his late father. it's an emotional experience both for him and his mother and sister.
-ignus got him hooked on fried icecream. it became something they'd have together when sparck and ione were growing up.
-just more of the arcanum being sparck's found family: he and jaki whisperwind are friends, and i like to think he has a good relationship with qyburn stellargaze too. i know in qyburn's ravenwood bulletin its mentioned that qyburn doesn't really have friends but i am choosing to disregard that and make an exception. anyways i imagine sparck was a really quiet kid and started showing up at qyburn's office because it was quiet and qyburn was like "aw okay yeah i guess you can stay"
-on one hand i like to imagine jaki and sparck became friends because they grew up learning balance together but on the other hand i have no idea what jaki would be doing at the arcanum as a child. maybe the arcanum has a habit of collecting traumatized children. either way they're balance school buddies NOW
-we NEVER get any interactions between sparck and mellori as far as i'm aware and i'm very sad about that. i feel like maybe her first impression would be that he's a little boring or almost as much of a stick in the mud as beans is (affectionate) but they actually become really good friends. it's what they deserve.
-also after empyrea we have no idea what happens to bat but i imagine he absolutely does not stay in the primordial forest with spider and raven because really, who would want to spend time with your recently un-divorced parents when they go through tree induced marriage counseling? that's right, nobody! after things have calmed enough in nimbus regarding sPoOkY sCaRy ShAdOw MaGiC sparck and bat exchange tech ideas. maybe even bat shows up for the virga lab restoration project at some point.
-i also like to think he becomes the ambassador of nimbus at some point and he becomes really well loved by everybody, but ultimately his passion lies in engineering.
-actually really enjoyed bad puns. this is also ignus's doing. specifically to get on tarrack's nerves (affectionate)
-of sparck and ione, sparck is the younger sibling. ione is really protective of him because she remembers more of the explosion / their father's death than sparck does. she's not the best at expressing it sometimes but she really cares for him and sparck has always looked up to her too. if they had to, they'd go beyond the outermost bounds of the spiral for one another.
that doesn't stop them from being petty siblings though. sparck would always come up with increasingly elaborate ways to wrap up ione's yuletide gifts. bastard.
-i think even after the ordeal with vanitus is dealt with he still struggles a lot trying to get acclimated to nimbus and the other nimbari don't entirely trust him for a while. some of them (read: giles, probably) are passive aggressive or even outright a little hostile to him or some people still talk down to him like he's still the kid that left nimbus some odd two decades ago. he proves them all wrong, though. he's the finest goddamn engineer empyrea's ever seen. i think keras's old friends come across him and welcome him to nimbus and tell him more about his dad too. so there's like, a lot of mixed feelings about settling in nimbus, you know? plus he essentially has to get to know his mother all over again after being separated from her for most of his life. things get better though.
-i don't know if he chooses to stay in nimbus for good or return to the arcanum after a while. i don't know if i'd really want to decide on one or the other. i think he'd definitely go back and forth between the two because the streamportals and the new spiral door have really facilitated travel to and from empyrea (besides, why wouldn't he use the device he built to travel? that's what it was made for)
-speaking of, he brings ione to nimbus one day to reunite with their mom and there's a lot of happy tears involved
-lactose intolerant. you would think that'd contradict the fried icecream bit but no he just suffers through it. there is no god up there other than him.
or ignus bought lactose free icecream. take your pick.

I think its around a year old or something. Was being self concious a lot about my art lately sooooo heres very old animatic just to reassure myswlf that my art has significally improved, actually
i know this specific part of empryea where all of the nimbari act like you're some freak monster even though you're just an oddly shaped human wizard trying to do good for them was just to parallel to bat and to make bat's predicament even more sympathetic . but im just mad that it worked. this entire thing was really fucked up . :( im so sorry king
