PJO Season 5 Finale Concept: Part 1
I was inspired by @riordanverseinc‘s vision for the finale of season 3 of the HOO series that would air sometime in the future (beautiful, by the way. You should read it if you haven’t already). So here’s my take on the finale of what would be season 5 of PJO, aka the adaptation of The Last Olympian (so spoilers, obviously).
Imagine this. It’s the year 2026. Every Friday, a new episode of the Percy Jackson tv show airs on Disney+. But this time it’s different. It’s the finale episode. It’s the end of the Percy Jackson and Olympians adaptation, the adaptation that you’ve waited for for years and that finally did justice to the book series you love so much. You count down the seconds until the episode is released. Cinematic history is about to be made.
You sit in front of the TV or have a streaming party online with friends. You have your online friends on FaceTime and your irl friends (some of them new to the fandom) close by. You are wrapped in a blanket with a pile snacks around you and a box of tissues nearby at the ready. Your hand thrums nervously against your legs as the title scene flashes on the screen, and you fidget with the hem of your Camp Half-Blood hoodie. You know what is coming. It will be beautiful, an episode that will be talked about for weeks if not months on end, but it will be a very bittersweet ending. Your smile and tears will keep each other company.
The title scene has ended, and the camera is focused on Percy’s face. It’s silent except for Percy’s heavy breathing. Percy’s sea-green eyes are filled with an overwhelming number of emotions - determination, fear, pride, frustration, but most importantly, hope. His dark hair is matted to his forehead, and a trickle of sweat runs down his forehead. The Battle of Manhattan has lasted for days, and this will be the final stretch. It’s the last chance for Percy to save his friends, his family, Camp Half-Blood, his city, and Olympus. The fate of the world rests on his shoulders.
But he’s not alone. His best friend Grover, with his reed pipes, rasta cap, and all, stands at his side. Grover will go down as the bravest satyr in history whether he knows it yet or not. And on Percy’s other side, Annabeth Chase. His Wise Girl. His rival to ally to best friend to maybe something more. Her gray eyes are stormy, and they match the streak of the same color that highlights her curly blonde hair.
You already feel tears brimming in your eyes. This may be the last time you see the trio together on screen.
The three best friends look small and timid in the throne room on Olympus. But it’s not the intimidating size of the surroundings that scares you. Luke Castellan, with his blonde hair and scar, stands on the other side. His hand wields a wickedly gleaming scythe. His eyes burn molten gold. Kronos has officially reentered the fight.
You and your friends all hold a breath as Kronos magically changes his weapon to Backbiter and charges Percy. You know how this ends, but you can’t help the nervous energy coursing through your body. You want to smile at Grover hurriedly playing his reed pipes in the background, but you are distracted by Annabeth fighting Ethan Nakamura. You know she can handle it, but you feel grief tug at your heart whenever you see her wince due to her shoulder injury. Your heart hammers in your chest as you watch Percy and Annabeth sneaking glances at each other while fighting, each of them desperately hoping that their best friend stays alive. The fight continues, the intensity increasing. You don’t remember the last time you blinked, for your eyes are glued to the screen. Your friends who are new to the fandom gasp in shock as Ethan dies at Kronos’s hands.
But the battle is nowhere near over yet. And you feel a sense of unease boiling in your stomach as the camera focuses on Kronos’s unnerving smile.
